    Clean, friendly staff and activities

I live here and I'm very pleased. The small (about 40) community is bright, clean, and cheerful, my room has a private bath, and there's an excellent nurse-to-patient ratio. The staff - nurses (including weekends), cleaning crew, and caregivers - are friendly and caring and often go above and beyond. Three good meals a day, lots of activities (bingo, chess, parachute toss, restaurant trips, even Elvis impersonators), and overall smooth, attentive care. It's a bit pricey, but worth it for the cleanliness and staff.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed but fairly coherent picture. The facility is described as modern, clean, and small in scale, with bright private rooms and in-room bathrooms. Many comments praise the permanent nursing team, housekeeping staff, and the overall cleanliness and pleasant appearance of the building. Residents and families commonly highlight a robust activity schedule that includes social games, outings, and themed entertainers, and many found the dining program satisfactory with three meals served daily.

Care quality appears uneven. Long-term, regular staff are characterized as compassionate and capable, and reviewers specifically noted strong nurse-to-patient ratios at times and instances of nurses going above and beyond. Conversely, reliance on temporary or agency personnel is a recurring operational concern; reviewers linked that reliance to inconsistent care experiences and gaps in continuity between shifts. Therapy services were noted as available but sometimes stretched, with caseload pressure cited as a factor that may limit timely or intensive therapy for some residents.

Several reviewers raised substantive clinical concerns that relate to monitoring and clinical oversight. These include issues with hydration and nutritional status, and mention of post-procedural or infection-related complications. There are also comments about limited interaction or communication with attending physicians and uneven family communication, which together suggest opportunities to strengthen clinical oversight, handoffs, and care-plan communication.

Operational and management themes include turnover in leadership and an uneven experience depending on staffing mixes. The combination of management change and frequent temporary staff contributes to perceived discontinuity of care and inconsistent adherence to individualized mobility or transfer protocols. Cost was another common theme: multiple reviewers described the community as relatively expensive and questioned the value relative to the variability in service consistency.

In summary, prospective residents and families can expect a bright, well-kept small community with engaging social programming and periods of strong nursing coverage. At the same time, evaluators should probe staffing patterns, therapy capacity, clinical monitoring procedures for nutrition and hydration, and physician communication protocols during tours and family meetings. Asking about the use of agency staff, average therapist caseloads, recent management changes, and examples of how care-plan handoffs are handled will help clarify whether the facility can consistently deliver the level of clinical oversight and continuity a given resident requires.

About Kendall House Wellness & Rehabilitation

Kendall House Wellness & Rehabilitation sits in Boerne, Texas, and is part of Morningside at Menger Springs, where you'll find many care levels like independent living, assisted living, memory care, transitional care, and long-term care, so people with different needs have a place, whether they're looking for full-time nursing, help with daily activities, or a quicker recovery before they go back home, and if memory care's needed, the Cibolo House Assisted Living staff are trained for Alzheimer's and dementia care for those extra challenges. The community has nursing homes, skilled nursing, and intermediate care options for people who need round-the-clock medical help or are very frail, and the teams here make personalized care plans, aiming for holistic support with a focus on physical recovery, daily care, and overall wellness. There's short-term rehab and long-term care, and respite care if a break from home caregiving is needed, while some folks come for independent living in places like Menger House Apartments, Cottages Under the Oaks, The Overlook Apartments, and newer Terrace Homes planned for 2025, all set by landscaped grounds, a putting green, covered pool, nature trails, and a library, plus help with medications, meals, and day-to-day chores in assisted living.

Kendall House Wellness & Rehabilitation has 40 certified beds and usually serves about 29 residents each day, keeps nurse hours per resident above the state average, but there's a higher nurse turnover rate than most Texas facilities, which could affect continuity. Since December 2020, Myranda Prater and since November 2021, Matthew Scott, have managed the facility. Now, the facility's faced several challenges, with 23 recorded deficiencies, most concerning for safety and proper care planning, and reports show a history of infection-related problems and issues making sure accidents and hazards don't harm residents, along with a big fine and even a temporary payment suspension for not meeting certain state and federal guidelines. Even so, there's a whole team of professionals who try to develop plans meant to help each person thrive wherever they are, through many options like skilled nursing, hospice, and memory care. Residents and families can schedule a tour, meet the staff, and see what the place has to offer, but there isn't much public information specific to Kendall House's unique features or programs beyond what's listed, so if someone's looking, it's good to ask direct questions about care quality, staff stability, and how problems are being fixed.
