    Warm, welcoming luxury senior living

I live here and am very satisfied - Holly and her team and Executive Director Teresa Bates lead a friendly, compassionate, concierge-style staff that makes residents feel truly cared for. The campus is gorgeous and immaculately maintained, with excellent chef-prepared meals, abundant activities, strong therapy/rehab services, a salon, and convenient transportation. Resident-focused leadership and thoughtful COVID precautions gave my family peace of mind; overall it's a warm, welcoming community I'd recommend for luxury senior living.

    Summary of reviews

Edgemere presents as an upscale, amenity-rich senior living community with consistently strong praise for its caregiving teams, memory-care expertise, and rehabilitation services. Many reviewers emphasize the facility's resort-like environment, chef-driven dining, and an extensive calendar of activities that support physical, intellectual and social engagement. The campus, courtyards and interior finishes receive frequent positive comment, and life-enrichment programs (for example a woodshop, choir, fitness classes and outings) are highlighted as important sources of purpose and social connection for residents. Leadership visibility and proactive infection-control during the COVID-19 period are also cited as strengths.

Clinical services and hands-on care elicit mixed feedback. Several reviewers commend nursing, therapy and memory-care staff for attentive, knowledgeable care and successful rehabilitation outcomes. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns around medication administration, pain-management responsiveness, and care coordination at transitions (including discharge communication). A few individual accounts describe serious clinical incidents; these underscore gaps in clinical-incident response and escalation procedures that prospective families should explore further when evaluating the community.

Staff culture is a pronounced strength in many accounts: staff members are described as compassionate, engaged and willing to go beyond expectations, and front-desk/concierge staff are often singled out for helping families and visitors feel welcome. However, reviewers also note variability in conduct and responsiveness across shifts and departments. Comments about understaffing, high resident-to-staff ratios, turnover, and uneven training point to a pattern in which service quality can fluctuate depending on staffing levels and specific team composition.

Dining and activities are major draws. The community offers multiple dining venues, special-event menus, and personalized accommodations, and many residents and families praise the food and service. Conversely, there are intermittent complaints about meal quality and dining-room service inconsistencies, as well as occasional noise or service delays in dining areas. Prospective residents should sample meals and observe meal-period operations to assess current consistency.

Facility, maintenance and operational issues are mixed. The property’s aesthetics, landscaping and many maintained spaces are frequently praised, but reviewers also describe infrastructure reliability issues (e.g., elevator performance and false alarms), sanitation or housekeeping concerns in particular areas, ongoing construction impacts, and a backlog of repairs in some instances. Administrative areas such as billing, insurance processing and parking management are additional recurring concerns; families should verify billing practices and parking availability during tours.

Overall, Edgemere is characterized by strong programming, an attractive campus and many devoted staff members who contribute to resident well-being. The notable patterns of concern — inconsistent clinical controls, staffing variability, maintenance and operational reliability, and administrative processes — are practical topics to address during a visit. Recommended next steps for prospective families: observe clinical and dining operations during peak times, ask for current staffing ratios and turnover metrics, review medication-administration and incident-response protocols, and clarify billing, insurance and parking policies before making a placement decision.

    About Edgemere

Edgemere sits in the Preston Hollow neighborhood and folks know it as the original Life Care community in Dallas, with a good reputation for senior living and lifelong security. The place offers independent living, assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing care, and rehabilitation-all on one campus, and that means people get what they need as their health changes, which friends and families say makes things easier. Residents get daily help when needed and benefit from personalized care plans, close work with doctors, and a 24-hour call system for safety, with nurses on staff part-time and security features like a gated entrance and guards.

Dining options feel varied, with Medici's restaurant changing its menu regularly and Portabella's Café and Grill for something casual, and meals come with fresh herbs and vegetables from the greenhouse and garden. Meal delivery and takeout work for folks who want to dine in their room, while community rooms with chandeliers and high ceilings make shared meals pleasant. Residents can join wellness programs using the indoor heated pool, fitness center, and group exercise sessions like yoga, stretching, aquatic fitness, balance classes, and personal training. There are walking trails, lush gardens, courtyards, sports for fun like a nine-hole putting green and bocce ball, and a clubhouse with patios, balconies, and serene green views.

The Edgemere community offers activity choices, from arts and crafts, music, and games, to outings, educational programs, and literary groups, and socializing comes naturally thanks to shared spaces like a billiards room, computer room, library, and theater. People here value connection, and the environment feels supportive, with spiritual services, events, and classes that foster growth and engagement. For comfort in each private residence, units have modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances, quartz counters, carpet throughout, mini blinds, and some offer balconies with seating and a view of landscaped grounds, while regular housekeeping, maintenance, laundry, and linen services keep things tidy.

Amenities include a salon, barbershop, mailboxes, on-site maintenance, and an all-bills-paid approach. Religious services take place, and scheduled transportation is available for shopping, outings, and medical visits up to 15 miles, including trips to pharmacies like Walgreens and hospitals such as Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Residents pay by check, and concierge services help with personal needs. For extra support, Edgemere gives access to occupational, cardiac, physical, respiratory, speech, IV and lymphedema therapies, plus medication reminders, hospice care, home health, and respite stays. There's room for people to live in the way they prefer, and Edgemere balances elegance, tranquil surroundings, and convenience for those who want an active and secure place for senior living.
