    Compassionate staff and homey campus

I placed my parent here and have been very pleased. The staff - especially Joelle - are compassionate, attentive and prompt; apartments are clean, laundry is handled, and small conveniences like a fridge and microwave are helpful. Food is flavorful with good choices, activities (bingo, crafts) are plentiful across the buildings, and the homey, dog-friendly campus feels safe and well cared for. I'm thankful for the excellent, welcoming care and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews present a bifurcated picture. Many families and residents praise Colonial Lodge for its compassionate frontline staff, cleanliness, good meals, and an active social program; these strengths create a home-like atmosphere that several reviewers said they would recommend. At the same time, there are significant operational concerns related to the facility's approach to memory-care needs and certain clinical incidents that some families experienced.

Care and clinical concerns: Positive accounts emphasize attentive day-to-day living support, reliable housekeeping and laundry, and situational acclimation of residents who require assistance. However, a number of reviewers raised substantive concerns about the facility’s capacity to manage progressive dementia and behaviorally complex cases. Those concerns include medication-management practices and instances where residents were transferred to higher-acuity settings or asked to leave as cognitive decline advanced. A few reviewers described specific, serious events; these individual accounts suggest gaps in dementia-care expertise, escalation pathways, and continuity of care that prospective families should evaluate closely.

Staffing and management: Staff members are consistently described as kind, helpful, and engaging, and many reviewers singled out individual caregivers for praise. Despite that, reviewers also noted variability in responsiveness and attention, particularly at the management level—examples include long waits to speak with directors and perceived delays in attending to resident needs. This suggests a generally strong caregiving culture that occasionally faces operational or supervisory inconsistencies.

Dining and services: Dining is widely regarded as a strength. Multiple comments cite flavorful food, menu choices, attractive presentation, and a pleasant dining area. Housekeeping and laundry services are also repeatedly mentioned as reliable. In-room amenities such as small refrigerators and microwaves are available in some units, which reviewers appreciated.

Activities and social environment: The facility offers a broad activity program—bingo, crafts, games, and other scheduled events across multiple buildings—and many residents are described as engaged and happy. That said, participation levels appear to vary by resident; some reviewers observed limited involvement from certain individuals, indicating that activity engagement may depend on personal preference, mobility, or staff facilitation.

Facilities and pricing: Physical spaces are described as clean and welcoming, with a courtyard and accessible common areas. There are both older and newer building options; newer units and upgrades are noted positively but may come at a higher price point. Some units have smaller footprints and limited private outdoor access, which prospective residents should assess when comparing room types.

Notable patterns and guidance for families: The dominant positive themes are skilled, compassionate frontline staff, good meals, cleanliness, and a lively activity schedule. The most important caution in the reviews concerns memory-care capacity and clinical escalation policies—families seeking long-term placement for someone with progressive dementia should ask specific questions about the facility’s dementia-care training, medication-management protocols, behavioral-support plans, and discharge/transfer policies. Also enquire about staffing ratios and how leadership handles urgent concerns to clarify the variability in responsiveness some reviewers experienced. Conducting an in-person visit, reviewing care contracts and policies, and discussing specific scenarios with management will help determine whether Colonial Lodge is an appropriate match for a given resident’s needs.

About Colonial Lodge Assisted Living & Memory Care

Colonial Lodge Assisted Living & Memory Care sits in Greenville, Texas, near Interstate Highway 30 and the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, having served seniors since 1990 as a private, family-owned and operated community. Colonial Lodge offers both assisted living and memory care services, including the only state-licensed Alzheimer Facility in Hunt County, which they call TenderCare, with a secure setting designed for people living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, and they have friendly staff that focus on making every resident feel welcome and cared for. The facility houses up to 55 residents in 73 private assisted living suites that come in several floor plans and offers 32 secured Memory Care units, including private and friendship suites, all with cable or satellite TV. The building's designed for seniors who might need help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, medication reminders, or managing mild cognitive impairments, and it includes around-the-clock supervision, a 24-hour call system, and up to 16 hours of nursing care each day.

Colonial Lodge provides a full range of amenities, like communal dining areas where residents share meals made from quality ingredients, a fitness room, spa, wellness programs, salon services, and therapy rooms, as well as shared spaces such as a library, game room, and inside entertainment venues for stress management therapies. There's also gardens and walking paths outside for fresh air, and they take care of daily chores like housecleaning, laundry, linens, and routine maintenance. Residents join in lots of activities together, including bingo, arts and crafts, educational classes, music and movies, exercise sessions, and outings for shopping or community events, and there are religious services on site too.

Colonial Lodge has specialized programs in memory care, so residents with cognitive impairments are supported in safe, structured ways that help reduce confusion and prevent wandering. There's support for those who need diabetic care, incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, or who need help managing their medications, and the staff communicates with families and caregivers so everyone stays updated and involved. Transportation is arranged for appointments and outings, and those needing short-term respite care can stay temporarily. Payment options include private funds, Medicare, and Medicaid, and the staff can help with financial guidance and selling a home if needed. The community wants residents to take part in daily life and supports a variety of resident-run and community-sponsored activities, and the focus remains on dignity, cleanliness, and keeping a warm, supportive environment for all.
