    Compassionate attentive staff, clean rooms

I'm very pleased with our experience - compassionate, attentive staff who know residents and families by name, clean well-maintained rooms, plentiful activities, and a warm, safe atmosphere; communication and leadership are strong and my parent is comfortable and well cared for, with only small room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a polarized picture of Regent Care Center of Laredo: several families describe a clean, well-maintained facility with active programming and attentive caregiving, while other accounts raise operational and communication concerns. Positives commonly noted include a bright environment, engaging social and recreational activities (indoor and outdoor games, lotería, monthly parish visits), and instances of compassionate, familiar caregiving in which staff know residents and family members by name. Housekeeping and environmental services receive favorable mentions, and some families describe constructive communication with physicians and effective daily care by CNAs.

Care quality appears inconsistent across reports. Many families praised compassionate direct care and individualized attention, but other accounts describe delays in care, injuries or care lapses tied to staffing shortages, and instances where clinical staff could not clearly explain a resident’s condition or its trajectory. There are also concerns about clinical oversight and leadership qualifications that reviewers associate with inconsistent nursing practice. Families cited notable frustrations with post-hospital handoffs and with how end-of-life events were handled, described as limited family support and follow-up after a resident’s death.

Staffing and management are a recurrent theme. Positive experiences coexist with accounts of high staff turnover, perceived understaffing, and variable staff conduct. Specific operational issues include inconsistent use of staff identification, reports of negative interactions or harsh communication tone from some employees, and concerns about a management culture that some families characterized as unsupportive. Admissions and intake interactions were described as unhelpful in some cases; in contrast, other families found the admissions and clinical staff professional and welcoming.

Dining and ancillary services are mixed in the feedback. The facility’s physical appearance and room cleanliness are generally praised, but at least one review raised concerns about dining-service supervision and kitchen-staff conduct. Activity programming and spiritual engagement are clear strengths for many residents — regular parish visits, group games, and communal activities are frequently cited as improving resident mood and socialization.

Communication and transparency are particular areas of concern. Families report long phone-hold times, missed or unanswered calls, minimal proactive updates about changes in condition, and limited access to monitoring options that would reassure families. There is also at least one serious allegation regarding resident personal property, which points to potential weaknesses in property-security practices.

What to consider if you are evaluating this facility: schedule an in-person visit during activity times, ask for written staffing ratios and turnover data, request the facility’s policy on resident personal property and incident reporting, clarify the process for clinical updates and post-hospital transitions, and ask about leadership qualifications and staff training programs. These inquiries can help confirm whether the positive caregiving experiences or the operational concerns are more representative of the current environment.
