    Kind staff, clean bright apartments

I toured Elan WestPointe and moved my mom in-staff have been kind, responsive, and genuinely attentive, and the facility is clean, bright, and welcoming. The apartment-style rooms, excellent meals, plentiful activities, and helpful amenities (salon, theater, restaurant-style dining) made the transition easy; overall I'm very pleased and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Elan Westpointe at New Braunfels presents a mix of clear strengths and consistent operational challenges. Many reviewers praise the staff members who provide day-to-day care: caregiving teams, memory-care staff, activity directors, and community-relations personnel are frequently described as compassionate, engaged, and committed to residents’ social and emotional well-being. The community offers extensive amenities — restaurant-style dining, salon services, a theater, game rooms, and outdoor areas — and a robust calendar of activities and outings that several families find enriching. Apartment-style living, bright interiors, and an overall hotel-like aesthetic are repeatedly cited as positive environmental features.

Care quality descriptions are polarized. Positive accounts highlight attentive memory-care programming, timely hospice coordination, and staff who go above and beyond for individual residents. Conversely, a significant pattern of operational deficiencies appears across reviews: staffing shortages (clinical and support roles), delayed responses to call systems, and variability in medical follow-up and medication-accessibility. These issues have led some families to supplement with private home health or to escalate concerns externally. Where reviewers note strong clinical oversight, families report confidence; where staffing is inconsistent, families report gaps in routine care and communication.

Dining and housekeeping are similarly mixed. The facility’s dining format and menu variety receive praise — several reviewers mention an accomplished chef, multiple menu options, and appealing presentation when service is functioning well. However, many reviews cite inconsistent food temperature and quality, missed or delayed meals, and staffing shortages that affect meal service continuity. Housekeeping and linen service are offered, but frequency and thoroughness are reported unevenly; some residents note weekly service and clean common areas while others describe delayed room cleaning and laundry problems.

Facilities and maintenance impressions are mostly favorable regarding design and amenities, but practical maintenance issues recur. Hot water outages, delayed room repairs, stained carpeting, and aging laundry or vacuum equipment were mentioned as service deficits in multiple accounts. Transportation and scheduled grocery or shopping trips are available but at times limited or suspended, and maintenance responsiveness appears to depend on staffing and management bandwidth.

Management, communication, and safety form a focal area of concern and variability. Several reviews commend specific leaders and new management for responsiveness and positive change, while others describe frequent leadership turnover, inconsistent follow-through on promised improvements, unclear billing practices, and difficulty obtaining timely updates after incidents. Security and privacy issues — including an incident of theft and concerns about sign-in processes — were raised, and some families escalated complaints to external authorities. These are serious items to verify in a current tour and by asking for documentation of recent corrective actions.

Notable patterns: resident experiences appear strongly influenced by staffing levels and current leadership. Multiple reviewers indicate improvements under particular managers or after staffing changes, suggesting the facility’s performance can change over time. Prospective residents and families should schedule an in-person visit during peak service hours, ask targeted questions about staffing ratios (including nights and memory care), emergency response times, recent maintenance and safety incidents, billing practices, and current dining and housekeeping schedules. Reviewing recent state inspection results and speaking with current families can help clarify whether the positive features or the operational challenges are predominant at the present time.

About Élan Westpointe at New Braunfels

Élan Westpointe at New Braunfels is an assisted living and memory care community in New Braunfels, Texas that feels a bit more like a boutique hotel or an urban lodge than a typical senior facility, and you'll see all kinds of people living there, from folks who don't need much help at all to those who need a fair bit, and even those living with Alzheimer's or dementia in a secure memory care building that has special safety features like a wander alert system and in-room wellness sensors. Residents who want to keep their pets can bring dogs or cats, and the staff will even help care for them, plus there's a pet therapy program for those who love animals. Apartments come in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts, and all are pet-friendly and maintenance-free, with options for independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even continuing care, with a separate pricing structure for care, and room rates that depend on the type you pick, plus a one-time $2,000 community fee.

People who need help with activities of daily living-like bathing, dressing, grooming, and medications-can get it whenever they need, with nurses and caregivers on staff 24 hours a day, plus special training for caring for those with dementia, hard-to-handle behaviors, or even non-ambulatory needs. The community takes private pay, veterans' benefits, and allows aging in place as care needs change. Residents who need help moving, monitoring insulin, handling incontinence, or just reminders can rely on the staff and the tech that tracks wellness in real time to prevent problems before they start. The Valeo™ memory care program uses its own building for extra safety and tailors services for every person, including support with challenging behaviors and wandering.

Meals are cooked on site with restaurant-style dining and even vegan options, with a personal chef preparing food for residents to enjoy, a private dining room, bars, a bistro, and cafés for socializing, and they'll handle the housekeeping, laundry, and even have an onsite beauty salon and barber shop. There's complimentary transportation for errands and trips, and residents can park their own cars if they still drive, so getting around isn't a hassle. Indoors and out, you'll find fireplaces in the lounges, peaceful courtyards, walking paths, an enclosed garden, and scenic views, plus a fitness center and all sorts of spaces for social or spiritual activities, like a chapel, TV lounge, arts and crafts center, and a movie room.

Residents can take part in a steady stream of structured programs-things like cooking classes, stretching and yoga, brain fitness, arts, gardening, karaoke, trips, trivia, Wii bowling, wine tastings, and even intergenerational and community service projects, and there's always a full-time activity director planning things to keep everyone busy. Community service programs and lifelong learning lectures encourage everyone to keep growing. If someone needs hospice, respite care, or skilled nursing for a while, those services are on hand, so people don't have to move every time their needs change.

Doctors, dentists, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists come to visit, along with a homecare team including RNs and LPNs, so healthcare is close by without needing to leave home. There's a lot of focus on wellness and independence, using Salus™ programs and holistic care to support physical, mental, and spiritual health, and staff do their best to make sure everyone feels at home, safe, and engaged, and with a high caregiver-to-resident ratio, residents tend to get help quickly whenever they ask.

The property is peaceful, modern, and friendly, with community spaces set up to let people talk, connect, or just relax alone, and everything is designed so that people-from completely independent to those needing memory care-can stay as their needs change without having to find a new place. For those with Alzheimer's or dementia, the memory care area is its own safe, purpose-built building with programs that work to help people retain abilities and moments of joy. Activities, amenities, and a warm setting aim to support people of all backgrounds so they can live meaningful, comfortable lives.
