    Excellent short-term stay and rehabilitation

I was very pleased with my short-term stay - the CNAs were friendly, the rehabilitation was amazing and exceeded my expectations, and follow-up with equipment was attentive. I'm grateful to the referral staff, initial issues were smoothed out after admission, and I enjoyed my private room.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer feedback on Mc Cullough Hall Nursing Center presents a mixed picture. Positive comments focus largely on the facility environment and rehabilitation services: several accounts describe the building as clean, note availability of private rooms, and highlight short-term rehab that met or exceeded expectations. Nursing assistants are frequently described as friendly and attentive, and families appreciated follow-up related to equipment and discharge planning. A number of admissions were characterized as improving after initial concerns were addressed, suggesting the facility can resolve early transition issues.

Care and staffing comments are more variable. While CNAs and rehab therapists receive favorable remarks for bedside manner and therapy outcomes, other reviewers raised concerns about staff tone and communication. These accounts include insensitive interactions and instances where staff responsiveness to personal-care needs was perceived as inadequate. There are also comments pointing to inconsistent training or onboarding, which reviewers linked to lapses in how some staff members handled sensitive situations.

Hospice and end-of-life care were an area of recurrent concern. Reviewers described dissatisfaction with hospice coordination, privacy during end-of-life care, and family communication following a resident's death. One reviewer questioned a facilityโ€™s hospice ratings relative to their experience. These comments indicate potential variability in how hospice services are integrated and supervised on-site.

Administrative and policy issues emerged as another pattern. Several families described unmet promises, difficulties obtaining agreed-upon extensions of stay, and frustrations with care-plan follow-through; one review named an administrator in connection with these concerns. Additionally, at least one account suggested gaps in security procedures and personal-property handling, which raises questions about resident-safety practices and front-line incident response. Some reviewers also expressed discomfort with the facilityโ€™s religious affiliation and how that environment affected care or cultural comfort.

Dining and activities received little specific comment in the collected summaries, so no clear pattern is evident. Facilities-wise, the physical environment and private-room options were viewed positively, though privacy-related lapses were raised separately. Prospective residents and families should balance the facilityโ€™s strengths in rehabilitation and attentive CNA care against reported inconsistencies in staff conduct, hospice coordination, administrative follow-through, and security procedures. Recommended pre-admission questions include staffing levels and training practices, hospice contracts and oversight, privacy and dignity protocols, security incident procedures, and the facilityโ€™s approach to accommodating residents with differing religious or cultural preferences.

About Mc Cullough Hall Nursing Center

Mc Cullough Hall Nursing Center is a 51-bed skilled nursing facility built in 1972, owned by the Congregation of Divine Providence, and managed by a team of lay staff who welcome people from all faiths and backgrounds, and it serves elderly, physically disabled, and intellectually disabled residents who need either long-term or short-term care. The center focuses on skilled nursing and intermediate care, offering rehabilitation for people recovering between hospital and home, with services like medical and nursing care, physical and occupational therapy, and speech-language and hearing help, and there's also a commitment to addressing spiritual, social, intellectual, and emotional needs as well, so there's a holistic approach to living and care. Families and residents can find renovated spaces, since the full bath and showers have been updated, and there's now a larger solarium that acts as both a dining center and activity space, along with a mini-kitchen for snacks, and a privacy parlor for personal visits or small group meetings, and these well-maintained grounds and common areas try to create a comfortable, safe place for everyone. Planned events and activities are aimed at sharing laughter and joy, while educational programs help residents learn skills for more independent living, and meals are served in either private or group settings, depending on what each person needs or prefers. The facility accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private pay, holds a five-star rating from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the "Best Nursing Homes" and a "Top Performing Facility," but even with these awards, the focus remains on supporting the wholeness of each resident in a safe and caring environment.
