    Compassionate clean memory care recommended

I moved my mother here and have been very pleased - convenient location, a compassionate memory-care team and responsive staff who coordinate with doctors and therapists. The facility is clean, tastefully appointed and feels like home; meals are nutritious and activities, outings and on-site services keep residents engaged. Overall a very positive experience and I would highly recommend this community for attentive, dignified senior care.

    Summary of reviews

The Retreat at Sunriver presents as a newer, well-appointed senior community with many features that appeal to families seeking memory care or assisted living in a resort-like environment. Reviewers consistently reference a modern, clean facility with tasteful common areas, patios and balconies, and a variety of on-site amenities (clubhouse, library, game rooms, salon, chapel). Apartments are described as comfortable and accessible, and the overall property layout supports easy navigation and resident socialization.

Frontline caregiving staff earn frequent praise: CNAs, med techs, and activities personnel are described as compassionate, attentive, and engaged with residents. Memory-care programming and supervision are repeatedly highlighted as strengths, with families noting dignified, loving care and a sense of security for residents with cognitive impairment. Clinical coordination with outside providers and on-site therapy/medical attention are also described positively, contributing to family peace of mind.

Dining and food service are a mixed area. Many reviewers describe nutritious, tasty meals, a hands-on chef and pleasant dining environments, while other accounts point to inconsistent meal quality and occasional food-service or hygiene concerns. This variability suggests that meal experience may depend on timing, staff on duty, or specific unit operations; prospective residents should observe meal service directly if dining quality is a priority.

Activity programming is another area with generally favorable commentary — scheduled events such as bingo, socials, shopping trips, and outings are offered, and staff engagement in small-group activities is emphasized. At the same time, there are comments about inconsistent scheduling or limited activity depth in certain instances; activity availability and frequency appear to vary by unit and staffing levels.

Two recurring operational concerns emerge. First, management-level issues: several families describe inconsistent tone, communication, and policy transparency from administrative leadership, including examples of restrictive visitation enforcement and disputes over rules. Second, staffing stability: high turnover and periodic shortages of CNAs were raised as affecting continuity of care. In addition, some reviewers noted opaque contract elements (for example, a non-refundable move-in fee) and, in a few cases, alleged discrepancies between marketing representations and the on-site experience.

Bottom line: The Retreat at Sunriver offers strong direct-care strengths — particularly in memory care — with a modern physical environment and a broad amenity set. Prospective residents and families are likely to find attentive caregivers, meaningful activities, and convenient services attractive. At the same time, families should seek written clarity on fee and contract terms, ask for specifics about staffing ratios and turnover, observe meal service and sanitation practices, and discuss visitation and administrative policies with leadership before committing. Doing so will help align expectations with the variability noted across reviews.
