    Courteous compassionate staff, excellent care

I placed my relative here and I'm very pleased overall. Heather Momaney was especially helpful; the staff are courteous, compassionate, and take their jobs seriously - standout aides and extraordinary nursing made my relative comfortable and happy, the community is extremely clean, offers several activities, and has assisted living, an Alzheimer's unit, and general nursing.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in these reviews is positive, with the strongest and most consistent theme being the quality of the caregiving staff. Multiple reviewers describe staff as compassionate, kind-hearted, courteous, and professional—using phrases such as "extraordinary" and noting that staff take their jobs seriously. Specific staff members receive praise (Heather Momaney singled out as helpful), and several reviews mention standout aides who made relatives comfortable and happy. This strong emphasis on empathy and attentiveness suggests the facility excels at personal care and resident comfort.

Care quality appears to be a central strength: reviewers consistently report that relatives were made comfortable and that caregivers showed genuine concern. That said, there is a notable caveat about inconsistency in aide performance—while some aides are highly praised, others draw dissatisfaction. This pattern indicates variability in caregiver skill, experience, or fit, so quality may depend on specific staff on duty or particular shifts. Another operational concern reported more than once is the use of ambulance transports when they were perceived as not necessary, which raises questions about clinical decision-making, emergency protocols, or threshold for escalating incidents.

The physical environment gets mixed but generally favorable comments on cleanliness and room quality. The facility is described as "extremely clean" and rooms are noted as nice, which supports a safe and comfortable living environment. However, several reviews remark that the facilities are "not beautiful," implying that the building or common-area aesthetics may be dated or lack modern finishes. In short, the facility appears well-maintained from a hygiene and upkeep perspective, even if it is not newly renovated or visually striking.

Services and programming are mentioned positively: reviewers note several activities available for residents and the presence of multiple levels of care, including assisted living, an Alzheimer’s/dementia unit, and general nursing. That continuum of care is an important asset for families seeking a facility that can support changing needs over time. Reviews don’t provide direct information about dining, menus, or food quality; no consistent feedback on meals was offered in the summaries provided.

Management and culture come through as service-oriented—staff described as courteous and serious about their roles suggests a professional culture with resident-focused priorities. The specific praise for an identified staff member suggests that individual employees can make an outsized positive impact on families’ experiences. The main patterns of concern (inconsistent aide quality, occasional unnecessary ambulance calls, and lack of aesthetic modernity) are operational and could reflect staffing variability, training gaps, or protocols that families may want to clarify when evaluating the facility.

In conclusion, Vernon Green Nursing Home appears to offer compassionate, attentive care in a very clean environment with a useful range of care levels and activity programming. Families can expect caring, courteous staff and comfortable rooms, but should be aware of reported variability among aides and ask about emergency response policies and staff training/turnover. If aesthetics are important, note that the facility may be functionally excellent but not particularly upscale in appearance.

    About Vernon Green Nursing Home

Vernon Green Nursing Home sits right along the Connecticut River in Vernon, Vermont, where residents can see nature out their window and feel a real sense of peace and calm, and you'll find they offer different types of care all in one place-independent living, assisted living, full nursing care, memory care for Alzheimer's, and rehabilitation-all centered in a small, close-knit community with room for about 60 people so folks get more attention without feeling lost in the crowd, and every apartment has its own full kitchen so people can fix their own snacks if they want but also enjoy three nutritious meals a day in a communal dining room, where meals are available any time if someone needs extra help. The Vernon Green community always keeps a higher staff-to-resident ratio than most places, and provides nursing services around the clock so care is never far away, and management is on-site and maintenance is handled right away without a fuss, and that's part of what folks seem to appreciate, because there's always someone who knows your name ready to lend a hand with daily needs or more involved health issues, and the care team puts a big focus on personal dignity, using a person-centered approach in their Alzheimer's programs, along with things like music therapy and reminiscence sessions to help with memory and bring comfort. The staff has specialized training for Alzheimer's and dementia, and the property hosts regular therapy and daily activities, both inside and outside, so there's always something happening, whether it's an outing to nearby towns or gatherings in the library or at the beauty shop and snack bar, and they even run a monthly resident council where folks and their families get a say in how things run. Vernon Green's been in the community for over 100 years and aims to bring the feeling of home to everyone, guided by a mission of caring for others, and lately they've been making moves toward the Green House® model, which is all about keeping the environment homelike, giving everyone their privacy, and offering good care in smaller settings. The place is non-denominational and welcomes all seniors, with options to pay through Medicare, Medicaid, or privately, and they keep up to date with Vermont's rules for resident rights and protections, always coming through inspections with good marks. Vernon Green's won several awards over the years, including state and national recognition for both quality of care and leadership, and has held deficiency-free inspections. With everything from chapel services to a library, a beauty shop, and plenty of common areas to meet friends or enjoy the view, the idea is to give residents a calm, secure place to call home with all the careful help and activities that keep life interesting, while still encouraging independence and family involvement. Apartments here are comfortable, and all the basics like nursing care, meals, and activities come included in the rent, and there are extras like cable TV or a private phone line if someone wants them. Folks can take part in rehabilitation for physical needs, get help with memory care, or just live independently and take part in the various programs as they wish, and the staff does their best-guided by their long history-to make every day feel worth living whether someone's here for assisted living, nursing care, or just to enjoy retirement in good company.
