    Moved my mom; highly recommend

I toured and moved my mom into the renovated wing and have been very pleased - management is awesome and the staff are kind, courteous and genuinely attentive. The place is clean, bright and homey with a private kitchenette room, porch/courtyard access, salon and lots of daily activities (arts, music, outings, Bible study) plus excellent home-style meals. Memory care, therapy and hands-on directors provide family-like, caring attention; I happily recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Runk & Pratt at Leesville Road elicits contrasting impressions: many families and residents describe a small, home-like setting with attentive staff, while other accounts point to operational inconsistencies that affect clinical responsiveness and family communication. The facility is repeatedly praised for its community feel, consistent nursing presence in some units, engaged activity staff, on-site therapy, and an in-house dining program described as restaurant-style and homey. These attributes support social engagement and daily structure for residents, and the availability of a memory-care option within the same building is viewed positively by families who want to limit transitions.

Care quality appears mixed. Positive accounts highlight compassionate aides, hands-on directors, regular nursing check-ins, and therapy services that meet or exceed expectations. Conversely, several patterns suggest gaps in consistent execution of basic personal care and clinical responsiveness: delays in attending to resident needs, inconsistent bathing/toileting schedules, and occasions where family members felt compelled to intervene. Clinical coverage is described as intermittent in places (no full-time on-site physician and occasional reliance on nurse practitioners), which can contribute to slower response times during acute situations.

Staffing and communication are central themes. Strengths include friendly admission staff, activity directors who build relationships, and a stable cohort of nursing staff in parts of the community. Weaknesses are recurring: staffing shortages, turnover, unanswered calls at the nurses’ station, and administrative communication lapses. These operational issues are tied to family frustration about care decisions, phone callbacks, and the tone of management interactions. There are also allegations concerning withheld deposits and associated litigation, which families should investigate directly with the provider and regulators.

Facilities and amenities show both positive and variable elements. Many reviewers praise cleanliness, renovated private rooms, pleasant common areas, courtyard/gardening spaces, and accessible porches. At the same time, comparisons between wings note variability in construction quality and room finishes; a newly opened wing prompted specific commentary about build quality and staffing coverage. Dining is consistently a strength in many accounts — described as in-house, well-presented, and served three times daily — and on-site services such as a salon and therapy extend day-to-day convenience.

Activities and social life are frequently called out as a benefit: arts and crafts, music, outings, religious opportunities, and group programs contribute to an active environment. The small scale of the community supports familiar faces and a family-style atmosphere that many residents and families value. Prospective residents should weigh that intimate environment against the operational concerns noted above.

Recommendation: Prospective residents and families should schedule an in-person tour that includes conversations about current staffing levels, clinical coverage, personal-care schedules, and billing/contract terms. Ask for examples of how the facility handles staffing shortfalls, how families are notified of clinical changes, and for documentation about deposit and refund policies. The facility offers several genuine strengths—clean common areas, engaging activities, therapy services, and a small-community feel—but the variability in operational reliability and family communication suggests due diligence is important before admission.
