    Caring staff, safe modern community

I moved in recently and have been very pleased - the staff (Angela, Claire, Francis) are caring and responsive, and the clean, modern building feels safe with large bright rooms and a lovely courtyard. Meals are fresh and nutritious, there are plenty of activities and outings, PT/OT and transportation are available, Wi-Fi is provided, and the family-like atmosphere makes me comfortable.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Saint Francis Manchester is portrayed as a clean, well-kept non-profit senior care facility with a family-like atmosphere and a focus on day-to-day comfort. Reviewers consistently emphasize the facility’s cleanliness, modern appearance, and convenient location. The campus offers accessible outdoor space and pleasant grounds, which reviewers highlighted as enhancing residents’ quality of life.

Care and staff: Staff receive strong, repeated praise for responsiveness and compassion; several reviewers singled out individual employees by name for positive interactions. Nursing leadership and direct care teams are described as attentive, with assistance available for activities of daily living including bathing and medication reminders. On-site therapy services (PT/OT) are available, which supports residents needing rehabilitation or strength maintenance. The overall tenor in reviews is that clinical care is competent and resident-focused.

Dining and activities: Meals are characterized as home-style, fresh, and nutritious, with families noting daily preparation and generally positive food quality. The facility offers structured social programming — bingo and organized outings are mentioned specifically — and reviewers report a lively activity calendar that helps residents stay engaged. Transportation is routinely provided for medical appointments and shopping trips (e.g., Walmart and dental/doctor visits), though reviewers also note limitations in transportation for non-medical recreational outings.

Facilities and services: Private rooms tend to be spacious, bright, and well appointed, with large bathrooms and abundant natural light. Building security and a safe campus environment are emphasized, along with practical amenities such as Wi‑Fi and cable (with a small fee for cable). As a non-profit facility that accepts Medicaid, Saint Francis Manchester is considered accessible for families seeking long-term options under public assistance.

Management and notable patterns: The dominant pattern across reviews is positive — families describe a welcoming, home-like environment with caring staff, good meals, and active programming. Two operational caveats recur: first, limited bed availability can result in waitlists or difficulty securing admission; second, transportation for recreational outings can be inconsistent compared with the reliable medical-appointment transit. Additionally, reviewers sometimes reference modest ancillary fees (for cable and similar services). These are logistical considerations for prospective residents and families but do not appear to detract from the overall favorable assessments of care and community life.

    About Saint Francis Manchester

Saint Francis Manchester sits at 65 West Clopton Street in Richmond, Virginia, and offers assisted living with 113 beds for seniors who need help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and medication management, and the caregivers here treat everyone like family, making sure each person gets person-centered care that fits their needs, especially for transfers or non-ambulatory care, and there's a 24-hour call system for safety so residents can get help anytime, while the daily life here is busy but familiar with scheduled activities like movie nights, music, arts, walking paths, games, a beauty salon, fitness classes, and even a spa and wellness room, and the outdoor spaces, rose gardens, and chapel give quiet places to visit and reflect. You'll find furnished rooms with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, telephones, and there's housekeeping, laundry, and move-in coordination, community meals made by a professional chef, and options for special diets, plus all-day dining and restaurant-style service with attention to allergies and diabetes. Residents use walking paths and gardens, or join in business room activities, the rehab clinic for therapy, the library, exercise spaces, and many chances to gather and talk, while transportation and parking are available for outings. Professional oversight meets Virginia's assisted living standards, and the staff completes background checks and follows protocols for emergencies. The community manages all the basic needs-housing, food, medication, daily living help, social support, and even family support services-and offers affordable alternatives to traditional senior care, so people find friendship around the table and connection in daily life. Care teams provide specialized medical and personal care, and there are special names for service programs that help keep everything organized and focused on residents' needs. The facility has the tools and regulatory practices to keep things safe, with protocols like emergency preparedness and help with advance directives, and it collaborates with local networks like VirginiaNavigator and others to make sure people have access to information and support that's up to date.
