    Caring staff, excellent therapy, activities

I'm very pleased with my experience here. The CNAs and nurses were kind and professional, therapy (Kevin, Sara, Cheryl, Danielle) really helped mobility, and the Activities team (Karina, Celeste, Tamika) kept residents engaged with movie nights, ice cream socials and outings. Deirdra and the admissions/front desk were welcoming, leadership and maintenance kept the building clean and safe, and the home-style meals made it feel like family - I'd confidently recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Autumn Care of Suffolk elicits a mix of strong endorsements and substantive operational concerns. Many families and visitors highlight compassionate bedside care from nurses, CNAs, and specialty clinicians (wound-care and therapy staff are frequently singled out), along with a proactive front-desk and admissions team that supports smooth transitions. The facility’s life-enrichment program, event schedule, and multiple communal spaces (dining rooms, visitor lounges, private party areas) are commonly described as engaging and home-like. Several reviews praise leadership visibility and recent management-driven changes, including renovation work, a more cohesive staff culture, and improvements in maintenance and responsiveness.

Clinical care and therapy are recurring strengths when staffing and scheduling align: reviewers describe effective physical therapy interventions that support measurable functional gains, attentive wound care, and individualized care planning with family inclusion. The admissions and social-work teams are frequently noted for thorough orientation, discharge planning, and ongoing communication. Dietary staff and long-tenured culinary employees receive positive comments for providing familiar, comfort-style meals and accommodating preferences on many occasions.

Despite these positives, the reviews reveal notable variability in operational consistency. Multiple accounts describe uneven staff responsiveness — particularly on certain shifts or during nights and weekends — and occasional delays in call-button response or clinical follow-up. Housekeeping and building upkeep are praised in many areas yet described as inconsistent in others; reviewers cite both well-maintained, pleasant common areas and specific zones with sanitation and odor concerns. Relatedly, there are mentions of pest-control issues and of areas needing cosmetic repair or refresher maintenance, indicating pockets of deferred upkeep.

Communication and professionalism are another mixed area. Numerous families commend transparent, collaborative care-planning and frequent updates, while others describe instances of poor communication, blunt or disrespectful staff interactions, and concerns about staff training and tone. There are also isolated, serious allegations regarding security and asset safety that suggest gaps in access control and property safeguards; these items would warrant administrative follow-up and, where appropriate, investigation.

Patterns in the feedback point to a facility that has undergone notable leadership- and culture-driven improvement, with clear strengths in therapy, admissions, activities, and visible administration. At the same time, persistent operational challenges remain: staffing consistency across shifts, targeted housekeeping and pest remediation, security controls, and uniformity of dining and clinical responsiveness. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s demonstrated clinical and social-program strengths against the variability described in some operational areas, and they may find value in discussing specific expectations for staffing, nighttime coverage, sanitation protocols, pest-control measures, and security procedures during a tour or care-plan meeting.

    About Autumn Care of Suffolk

Autumn Care of Suffolk sits at 2580 Pruden Boulevard in Suffolk, VA, and offers a range of care for seniors, so folks find choices like skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, short-term rehab, respite care, and personal care, and with 110 skilled nursing beds, staff can support both long-term and temporary stays with individualized care plans for each resident. The building has all semi-private rooms, so residents share rooms for companionship and better rates, and the daily room rate is set for each type. The facility belongs to Saber Healthcare Group, and the team of professionals-including nurses and aides-work around the clock, making sure seniors get attention and medical support as needed, and people often talk about a home-like feel and kindhearted staff who know what they're doing, and that's something you do tend to notice in a place where they focus on industry experience and compassion. Silvana Bakos serves as the general administrator, and Mr. Emanuel Sterling Motley manages the facility. Folks can expect programs like speech therapy, rehabilitation before or after surgery, and special attention for memory care. The community's close to hospitals, pharmacies, stores, banks, and places to grab a bite, which makes things more convenient for residents and their visitors. Advisors in the area help families understand their options, and there's a downloadable brochure for people wanting more details. While there aren't reviews posted right now, connections to resources like VirginiaNavigator, SeniorNavigator, and others give families extra support, with links to veteran services, disability programs, caregiving help, and guides about local events and services, which can be useful for anyone planning ahead, and the directory also mentions over 26,000 programs for seniors' needs in areas like health, legal, housing, transportation, and social engagement. Autumn Care of Suffolk shares its approach and network with similar Virginia facilities like Autumn Care of Chesapeake and others, so people looking for consistent standards across communities might find it helpful, and while it's a proprietary nursing facility, the main focus stays on meeting each resident's wellness goals with dedicated care and specialized programs made for different needs.
