    Clean, bright, and caring community

I've been a long-term resident and I'm very pleased - clean, odor-free facility with beautiful, well-kept grounds and tasteful, bright apartments. The staff are caring, professional and attentive (nursing and therapy teams especially excellent), communication is quick, meals are served three times daily and activities (painting, needlework, chair yoga, book club, water aerobics, pool, bingo) keep life engaging. Management and the resident council are responsive, the atmosphere feels warm and family-like, and I happily recommend Harbor Place at Cottesmore for quality, compassionate care.

    Summary of reviews

Harbor Place at Cottesmore is consistently described as a well-appointed, amenity-rich senior living community with many strengths in clinical rehabilitation, social programming, and environment. Families repeatedly emphasize the quality of therapy services (physical, occupational, speech) and note successful rehab outcomes. The facility projects a warm, inviting atmosphere with multiple common rooms, activity spaces, and leisure amenities including an indoor pool, jacuzzi, exercise room, library and craft/card rooms. Apartments are generally characterized as spacious, some with balconies and kitchenettes, and landscaped grounds are well maintained.

Staffing and the care culture are prominent positives. Reviewers frequently describe caregiving staff as compassionate and family-oriented, and they note attentive nursing leadership and round-the-clock clinical availability. Communication with families is often praised, and the presence of an active resident council and a varied activities program (arts, fitness classes, clubs, Bible study) contributes to social engagement and a lively community feel. Several comments also single out management and admissions staff as informative and cordial, and dining service receives favorable remarks from many residents and families.

That said, there are recurring operational concerns prospective families should assess. Staffing levels and caregiver workloads are described as variable; this is associated in some accounts with delays in personal-care responsiveness, including incontinence-care handling and other direct-care tasks. Cleanliness and odor control are praised in many areas but described as inconsistent in others, suggesting variability in sanitation practices across the campus. A number of reviewers raised issues around staff competency or training gaps and noted occasional lapses in the timeliness or tone of front-line customer service.

Other practical considerations include a somewhat confusing admissions/entry and reception setup, variability in food quality and dining experience, limited outdoor walking paths on the smaller campus, and perceived cost and insurance/copay burdens. More serious concerns were referenced by some families, including clinical incidents and regulatory attention; these accounts were less common but suggest that prospective families should review inspection records and ask management directly about incident response, staffing ratios, training, and oversight.

Overall, Harbor Place at Cottesmore presents many attributes appealing to those seeking robust rehabilitation services and an active, well-appointed community with a compassionate staff culture. At the same time, variability in staffing, personal-care responsiveness, sanitation control, and admission logistics are recurring themes that merit direct inquiry during tours. Prospective residents and families should visit at different times of day, meet nursing leadership, review recent inspection reports, and ask specific questions about staffing ratios, personal-care protocols, and incident communication to confirm fit and address any operational concerns before commitment.

    About Harbor Place at Cottesmore

Harbor Place at Cottesmore sits in Gig Harbor, Washington, offering senior living right near the bay of Puget Sound, so there are nice outdoor spaces and even some waterfront dining, and the apartments come in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts, some with walk-in closets, balconies, patios, and private baths, which can feel like living in your own apartment, plus there are kitchens or kitchenettes if you like to cook at home, but they also do restaurant-style dining with kosher and vegetarian meals and private dining rooms for family get-togethers when you want it a bit more special. You'll find lots of extras like a heated indoor pool, a Jacuzzi, a fitness center, putting green, billiards room, beauty salon and spa, an on-site library, computer room, and a lounge for relaxing, while the outside has well-kept gardens and covered entries so you don't get wet when it rains, and parking is available for those who drive, plus there's free scheduled transportation for trips to the doctor, shopping, outings to museums, theaters, sporting events, or just getting around town.

They allow both dogs and cats as long as they're within weight limits, so pets are welcome, and residents often use the walking paths in the landscaped grounds. The senior community has independent living, assisted living, and even a memory care option and connects to skilled nursing and rehabilitation if you need it, so you don't have to move if your health needs change, which can be a big comfort, and staff are on duty around the clock with an emergency call system in every room, and the staff are praised for being caring and professional, although some reviews do mention a wish for better safety at entrances, but people seem happy with the general cleanliness. Health care services include help with medication management, diabetic care, incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, and high acuity needs, plus staffing and ancillary support if you need a little extra help from time to time, but you can also stay short-term for respite care if you're recovering or your family needs a break.

Leisure and wellness activities run all week, with social and educational programs, water aerobics, wellness classes, chapel services, field trips, and regular social gatherings arranged by the activities staff, so there's usually something to do if you're interested in being busy. There's a five-star safety rating for health safety and visitor management because of sign-in and screening technology, and the surroundings are generally praised for looking tidy and pleasant, with patios and lounges for sitting out in good weather. Harbor Place at Cottesmore is part of Century Park Associates, which focuses on independent and assisted living, and there's a monthly lease with no big buy-in fee, plus 40 retirement and 60 assisted living apartments, all looked after by friendly associates who are available 24/7 and under the direction of an Executive Director with a background in growth and operational excellence, so things usually run smoothly. The community has a score of 6.3 from reviews, which puts it in the middle with people liking the staff and activities but having some concerns about security.

Residents can expect weekly housekeeping, laundry service, on-site beauty and barber care, and both elevators and wheelchair accessible showers for those who need help getting around. There's also internet access throughout, indoor and outdoor common areas for social events, outings, and quiet space, and plenty of options for staying active, but of course, it's still up to every resident how much they want to get involved. Life here is about maintaining independence without daily home maintenance, with support nearby if you want it, and the setting is calm and comfortable, with staff ready to help but not overbearing. Apartments are arranged around manicured grounds, and there's a nice mix of privacy and social opportunities, so many residents settle in well here for an active or relaxed retirement, depending on what suits them best.
