I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased. The staff are compassionate, attentive, and know residents by name; communication is excellent and concerns are handled quickly. The facility is immaculately clean and home-like, with comfortable common areas, a pleasant dining room serving excellent home-cooked meals (including special diets), good rehab/PT scheduling, and engaging activities. It's a bit pricey but worth it - my mom feels safe, cared for, and content.

Summary of reviews
Ravenswood Care Center is described as a clean, welcoming facility with many strengths in staffing, programming, and rehabilitation services. Reviewers frequently highlight compassionate, attentive caregivers who know residents by name and create a home-like atmosphere. The facility's common areas and dining room are generally praised for their appearance and comfort, and the site offers a secure inner courtyard and consistent volunteer involvement that supports social programming.
Care quality is a mixed but important theme. Many families credited staff with excellent personal attention, dignified treatment, and strong communication; rehabilitation and therapy services are also viewed positively. However, there are documented concerns about inconsistent responsiveness to personal-care needs and pain management. These concerns often co-occur with observations about staffing levels and compensation, suggesting that workforce capacity and retention may contribute to variability in day-to-day care.
Dining and nutrition likewise show both strengths and limitations. The dining room and meals are often described as home-cooked and attractive, and the facility can accommodate special-diet needs. At the same time, some families found meal suitability inconsistent for particular medical diets and reported challenges with feeding assistance during meal periods. Prospective residents should confirm current menu options and staffing for assisted mealtimes.
Social and activity programming is a clear strength. Ravenswood runs an array of activities (bingo, game nights, movie time), special holiday events with entertainment and family invitations, and outside speakers. Long-term volunteers and visible family involvement contribute to an active social environment that many families found comforting and engaging.
The physical plant is generally clean and well kept, and many reviewers liked the non-institutional, comfortable feel of rooms and common areas. That said, the building is older in places: rooms tend to be small, and ongoing expansion/renovation and upkeep needs were noted. Visitor parking and site access are limited, which can be inconvenient for family and guests.
Management and administrative practices draw mixed feedback. Administrative and front-desk staff are often described as accommodating and helpful, and some families experienced prompt complaint resolution. Conversely, there are operational concerns around billing transparency and fee practices: upfront monthly payments, add-on charges for disposables, and unclear refund policies were cited. These financial-process issues represent an important operational trait for families to review in writing before placement.
In summary, Ravenswood presents as a largely clean, socially active facility with a compassionate caregiving culture and capable rehabilitation services. Areas to investigate further during a tour and intake conversation include staffing ratios and shift coverage, protocols for pain management and assisted care during meals, current renovation plans and room sizes, visitor parking, and a detailed, written fee schedule. These follow-up questions will help families weigh the facility's clear strengths against operational areas that have produced variable experiences.

About Ravenswood Care Center
Ravenswood Care Center, sometimes called Virginia Manor, sits at 1113 Washington Street in Ravenswood, West Virginia, and provides assisted living, memory care, nursing home, independent living, and continuing care retirement community services for seniors who need some support but still want to live as independently as possible. The place helps folks with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, and managing their medications, with registered nurses and licensed practical nurses on site 24 hours a day, so you know there's always someone around if needed, and staff do regular medical checks. Housekeeping and laundry keep things clean, while the staff pays attention and gives personalized care to every resident, including folks with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia conditions, creating routines and safe spaces to cut down on confusion and wandering.
Meals are prepared from scratch by chefs and meal planners who focus on nutrition, and the dining room offers restaurant-style service and special dietary options, like if someone needs food for diabetes or a low-salt diet. Rooms come in several options-private rooms starting at $5,460 a month, studios from $5,590, and one-bedroom apartments at $8,030, all furnished with private bathrooms, cable TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, kitchenettes, and telephones. The rooms get maintained and cleaned by staff.
Ravenswood Care Center tries to keep a lively social atmosphere, with support for residents who want to go on outings, like trips to the local senior center swimming pool or taking part in activities at the senior center, and transportation and parking are available too. An activity director plans things like social events, fitness programs, movie nights, music programs, and holiday celebrations, and residents can join outdoor programs, garden activities, and walk the paths outside. Residents have access to a game room, library, business room, barber or salon, fitness room, spa, and common outdoor spaces.
There's an emergency alert system, 24-hour call system, and round-the-clock supervision for peace of mind, and families can get support and help to coordinate moving in. Ravenswood Care Center holds awards like Best of Senior Living and Best of Senior Living All-Star, mainly thanks to its activity programs and friendly staff, and reviews mention the staff is helpful, joyful, and kind. It has a Facebook presence if someone's interested in updates and events. The Seniorly rating is 6.4, and online reviews average 3.8 out of 5 stars, based on 14 reviews. Tours are available for folks who want to see daily life and rooms for themselves. The goal at Ravenswood Care Center is to offer a safe and comfortable place for seniors who want both independence and a helping hand.
