    Pleasant community, delicious meals, activities

I've lived here for years and am very pleased overall. The staff are friendly and attentive, the building is clean and bright with a charming Tudor exterior, courtyard and gazebo, and a cozy dining-room fireplace. Meals are delicious and healthful, common areas are spacious and well-decorated, and there are plenty of activities-crafts, games, church services, social trips, and an exercise room with regular classes.

    Summary of reviews

The Hearthside is presented as a community with many traditional amenity strengths and an established resident population. Architectural and outdoor features such as a Tudor-style exterior, a courtyard with a gazebo, and a fireplace in the dining room contribute to a homelike atmosphere. Several descriptions emphasize bright, well-decorated public areas and spacious common rooms that support socializing and communal living.

Care and staff quality is described positively overall. Staff are characterized as caring, attentive, and friendly; families and residents convey a sense of responsiveness and ongoing support. The reference to long tenure and an established resident community suggests relative stability among residents and staff, which can benefit continuity of care and social cohesion.

Dining and nutrition are clear strengths. Meals are described as healthful and well-prepared, with healthy options and snacks available between meals. The dining setting—with features such as a fireplace—appears to be both welcoming and conducive to mealtime engagement.

Activity programming is varied and frequent. The community offers crafts, reading, games, church services, social outings and trips, and regular exercise classes in an on-site fitness room. These offerings indicate an emphasis on physical activity, social engagement, and spiritual life that can meet diverse resident interests.

Facilities present a mixed picture. While many common areas are bright and well-decorated, there are consistent notes about uneven upkeep and datedness in some private rooms and portions of the facility. A specific operational concern is occasional odor issues reported in certain areas; this suggests maintenance or ventilation practices that may be inconsistent. Cleanliness is generally described positively, but perceptions of individual living spaces vary.

Management patterns inferred from the feedback point to strengths in staffing and programming but opportunities in facilities maintenance and environmental management. Prospective residents and families should weigh the community’s strong social, dining, and staffing attributes against the potential need to inspect private units for condition and to ask management about ongoing maintenance, housekeeping practices, and odor-control or ventilation measures before making a placement decision.

    About The Hearthside

The Hearthside is a small 8-bed community residential-based facility (CBRF) in Janesville, WI, that's licensed by the state and has been serving older adults and those with disabilities since 2015. Residents can choose private or semi-private rooms, which are furnished, have full bathrooms, and are fully wheelchair accessible, with safety features like sprinkler systems and emergency alert systems in place. The Hearthside offers assisted living, independent living, nursing home, and memory care services, which means the staff there help people with advanced age, physical disabilities, dementia, intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and even traumatic brain injuries, and can do things like help with bathing, dressing, transfers, grooming, and medication. There's a secure setting for Alzheimer's and dementia care, with trained staff and safe, fenced outdoor areas for residents who might wander, and there are specialized programs and activities just for these residents, so people have something to do every day that fits what they like and can safely handle.

People living here get three homemade meals a day and snacks, and they can ask for special diet changes if they have health needs like diabetes, high blood pressure, or food allergies, including low/no sodium options, and there's all-day dining, a dining room, and community dining. The Hearthside also welcomes some pets, holds game nights and movie nights, has a resident musical group, and plans activities like arts and crafts, exercise, and social events so people stay active and connected, with lounges and common rooms where residents can watch TV or read a book. The place is fully set up with walking paths, outdoor patios, and gardens, and there's a recreation room, fitness center, and arts and crafts area, plus a book room, jacuzzi, sauna, and salon/barber.

Residents have housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning available, with personal aides helping with daily needs and medication, and there's in-house skilled nursing, podiatry, occupational therapy, and wound care, plus hospice services for those who need end-of-life care, and a hospice waiver for those specific needs. The Hearthside can also provide respite care, short-term stays for caregivers who need a break, and they have move-in help to make moving easier. Transportation is available for appointments, shopping, and going to church or other outings, along with advice and planning services for future needs, and the place has free high-speed WiFi, cable TV in rooms, and common areas with TVs.

The Hearthside works with healthcare providers to make sure each resident's medical plan is managed, offers medication management, has 24-hour supervision, and can work with insulin doses or residents who need help from two people for transfers, depending on what's needed. The staff focus on helping people keep their dignity and independence, with programs and services that try to help everyone live a good life, find friends, and feel at home, all wrapped up in a simple all-inclusive price so residents know what they'll pay each month.
