    Clean caring staff pleasant apartment

My mother is very happy here - the facility is spotless, smells pleasant, and her apartment with two sunny windows is lovely. Amanda and Brittany in the office and the rest of the staff are polite, caring, and communicative (we get FaceTime updates and activities like bingo), and the hospice transition was handled smoothly. Costs are reasonable, the gathering/dining areas are inviting, and I'm grateful for the attentive, personalized care - I only wish there were more gardens.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers describe a facility that is generally well maintained and clean, with many families noting pleasant common areas and apartment-style rooms with good natural light. The physical environment and daily cleanliness are consistently cited as strengths, and several family members highlight courteous administrative contacts during move-in and intake.

Care and staff: Staffing quality generates mixed impressions. Numerous accounts praise individual caregivers as caring, respectful, and accommodating — with examples of personalized one-on-one attention and routine family updates including virtual check-ins. At the same time, recurring operational issues such as inconsistent staffing levels, overworked personnel, and communication breakdowns between shifts were described. These operational problems have produced delays in assistance at times and contributed to concerns about responsiveness, particularly during nights/weekends and in some end-of-life situations.

Dining and nutrition: Food service is described inconsistently. Some families experienced acceptable or improving meal quality after kitchen staff changes, while others described declines or high-sodium and limited two-course meals that felt nutritionally unbalanced. Meal continuity appears vulnerable to staff turnover and kitchen staffing; families should expect variability and confirm current menu practices and accommodations for dietary needs.

Activities and social life: The facility offers organized programming — bingo and group gatherings were cited frequently — and common spaces are often described as inviting and clean. However, activity options and staffing for weekend programming are limited, so weekend engagement may be constrained compared with weekdays.

Facilities and amenities: Physical spaces are generally well kept and pleasant, with specific praise for sunny rooms and inviting gathering areas. Some reviewers noted dimly lit hallways or common areas and expressed a desire for more outdoor garden space. Pricing structure is seen as reasonable for the base rent, but families should note that additional charges can apply for bathing or extra nursing assistance.

Management and operations: Management stability is a key theme. Several positive experiences referenced a helpful intake team and accommodating building manager. Conversely, some reviewers linked diminished staff morale and service consistency to recent ownership or administrative changes. Communication gaps between shifts and with families, occasional slow emergency-response times, and staffing shortages are patterns prospective residents should investigate during a tour.

Recommendation guidance: The facility shows clear strengths in cleanliness, certain staff members, and social spaces, but operational challenges — especially inconsistent staffing, weekend coverage, meal variability, and concerns about responsiveness during hospice or emergency situations — emerge as recurring themes. Prospective residents and families should verify current staffing ratios, weekend programming, emergency response protocols, end-of-life care procedures, and the fee schedule for personal-care services before deciding.

    About Preston Place

Preston Place is a senior living community regulated by Wisconsin's Department of Social Services, and it cares for up to 20 seniors in a comfortable, family-like setting that feels safe and familiar, and while the building may not be fancy, the staff-led by experienced caregivers and nurses-focus on keeping everyone comfortable and well-looked after, so whether someone lives alone or needs a lot of help, they can get the support they need, which includes independent living, assisted living, adult care home, memory care, and skilled nursing options all in one place, allowing folks to stay as their needs change. You'll find private studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, often furnished and with telephones, and while some units have kitchenettes, meals are prepared and served by the staff, with special diets for diabetes or high blood pressure available when required, and anyone moving in directly won't pay an entrance fee, but there are standard community fees and monthly rates.

Some people need only light help, like reminders or medication help, while others need full support with dressing, bathing, hygiene, and moving from bed to wheelchair, and the team is available all day and night, with basic caregiving training, nurse-led oversight, and a 24-hour call system. Preston Place offers both home health and home care services so help can be brought to a resident's room, and provides incontinence and diabetic support, but residents needing help with incontinence should be able to participate in their care. Staff can assist folks who aren't able to walk or stand for long and coordinate medication or health needs with outside healthcare providers, plus there's respite care and hospice care services, so short stays or help at the end of life can be arranged, and for memory care residents, there's a secure area with alerts, trained staff, and outdoor spaces set up to encourage safe relaxation and engagement.

Activities make life fuller, so every day there are things like music therapy, pet visits, tabletop games, walks outside, art, movie nights, and general socializing in the indoor common rooms, plus devotional activities, reading rooms, and time for spiritual support, and for anyone who likes to keep moving, there's a fitness schedule and spaces for relaxing outdoors. The building is designed with wellness facilities, a hot tub, sauna, garden, barber or salon, recreation rooms, and scheduled housekeeping and laundry, so daily life is less of a hassle, and a dedicated team coordinates rides to doctor visits, errands, or faith-based services, with some transportation included at no extra charge.

Preston Place aims to honor veterans with special recognition and resources, and keeps all residents' dignity and comfort at the center by making individual care plans and setting up regular reviews, so each person's needs are met as they change. While community life means shared activities and spaces, everyone's encouraged to keep their independence when possible, and the staff supports that with as much or as little help as needed. Payment can come from private funds, veterans benefits, social security, or commercial insurance, and residents must be 55 or older, whether male or female, and while fees may vary based on care level or apartment type, all apartments include basic amenities and a safe, homey place to live.
