    Beautiful modern community, caring staff

I toured this community and placed my mom here - it's beautiful, modern, and feels very home-like. The staff and nursing team are warm, professional, and responsive, activities and amenities keep residents engaged, meals have improved, and I trust leaving my loved one here; I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers describe Shawano Place as a facility with clear strengths in direct resident care, social programming, and the physical environment, alongside notable operational weaknesses that families should evaluate. Many comments highlight caring, professional nursing staff and registered nurses who are seen as attentive and compassionate; reviewers frequently praise caregivers who engage residents and respond quickly to clinical needs. The facility’s interior is often described as modern, comfortable, and home‑like, and several families emphasized strong peer relationships among residents and an active calendar of daily activities that supports social engagement.

Dining and food service emerge as a polarized area. Some reviews note improved meals and praise from residents after changes in kitchen staff, while others describe inconsistent food temperature, processed items, and menu planning concerns that raise doubts about dietitian oversight. These accounts point to variability in food‑service operations and continuity rather than a uniform standard of quality. Prospective families should observe a mealtime and ask about menu planning and contingency staffing for the kitchen.

Housekeeping, maintenance, and environmental cleanliness are other areas with mixed feedback. Several reviewers report cleanliness issues in common areas, carpeting, and bathrooms, and mention delayed or incomplete maintenance such as nonfunctional thermostats or deferred repairs. In contrast, other comments describe immaculate housekeeping and well‑kept spaces. These conflicting observations suggest uneven execution of housekeeping and maintenance protocols across the facility.

Operational concerns tied to staffing and administration appear repeatedly. Reviewers cite periods of short staffing, staff turnover in the kitchen, and occasions when routine care tasks were delayed or inconsistently completed. There are also critiques of front‑office customer service and management responsiveness; some families commend particular administrators and admissions staff for helpfulness and expedited placements, while others raise concerns about policy enforcement and administrative conduct. A small number of serious allegations about staff behavior and hiring integrity are mentioned, which point to potential gaps in hiring vetting and internal oversight.

Security and event response are mentioned as isolated but consequential issues, with at least one report describing an incident that reviewers felt was not effectively managed. Combined with comments about limited transparency during tours (inability to view sample rooms) and inconsistent communication from the office, these items indicate areas where procedural clarity and oversight could be improved.

Overall, Shawano Place presents a mix of strong caregiver relationships, appealing communal life, and a pleasant physical environment, alongside operational inconsistencies in housekeeping, food service, staffing stability, and administrative oversight. The pattern is one of variability: some families report excellent experiences and prompt, compassionate care, while others report lapses in environmental upkeep and service continuity. Prospective residents and their families should prioritize direct observation of mealtimes, housekeeping standards, staffing levels on different shifts, hiring and credentialing practices, and the facility’s incident‑response procedures during a visit, and seek clarification on management policies and turnover metrics before deciding.
