    Compassionate CNAs and outstanding therapy

I've had my dad here for rehab and longer-term care and I'm very pleased. The staff are professional, genuinely caring - angelic CNAs and attentive nurses (Allison stands out) - and the physical therapy is outstanding. Rooms are spacious and private with nice views, activities are engaging and faith-friendly, and the campus offers a gym and good value. I would recommend this place and plan to move up to their assisted living.

    Summary of reviews

Bethany Home presents as a long-standing, full-campus provider with particular strengths in short-term rehabilitation and physical therapy. Many reviewers praised the rehab program and therapy staff, and families commonly noted successful recovery stays and skilled PT services. The campus offers tangible amenities that support rehabilitation and activity—an on-site gym/weight room, large private rooms with sizable bathrooms and exterior views on a recently refreshed unit, and a continuum-of-care model that can facilitate transitions from rehab to residential or assisted living.

Staffing and direct care receive mixed but substantial positive feedback: several accounts describe attentive, respectful RNs and CNAs, named staff who provided high-quality care, and an overall culture of compassionate treatment and faith-based support for residents who value that aspect. At the same time, other families reported inconsistencies in staff responsiveness and conduct; these accounts point to variability in the resident experience that appears linked to staffing levels and shift coverage.

Dining and activities were frequent areas of divergence in reviewer experience. Some families praised the meals and active programming (seasonal events, campus-wide games, and engaging group activities), while others described inconsistent food quality, a reliance on the same items, and difficulty securing individualized diets or dietary accommodations. Activity programming appears robust at times but uneven across units and lacks specialized offerings for residents with visual impairment or other sensory needs.

Operational patterns emerge around communication, admissions, and logistics. Reviewers described front-desk and admissions coordination problems, including misdirected room assignments and difficulties arranging or confirming transfers and transportation. Transportation options are limited primarily to in-town services, and there are additional charges for longer-distance transport, which may affect families planning ongoing outpatient appointments. Security and access control were identified as an area needing attention, with accounts indicating that entry-point monitoring and visitor communication could be strengthened.

Facility condition is mixed: while some units have been updated and present well, other areas show signs of aging and inconsistent maintenance. Cleanliness and sanitation concerns were raised for some resident bathrooms and specific areas, suggesting uneven housekeeping or inspection practices. Finally, several comments reflect concerns about leadership communication and organizational consistency, with mentions of past management turnover and differing experiences depending on leadership and staffing at the time of stay.

Overall, Bethany Home appears to offer strong rehabilitation services, a caring core of clinical staff, and useful campus amenities at competitive cost. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against variability in food service, activity access for residents with sensory impairments, staffing stability during off shifts, and occasional operational lapses in admissions, communication, and facility upkeep. Visiting multiple units, meeting therapy and nursing staff, and reviewing the facility's current staffing and dietary accommodation policies will help families assess how well the facility's strengths align with an individual resident's needs.

    About Bethany Home Inc

Bethany Home Inc. sits on a 30-acre campus near Shadow Lake and the Crystal River in Waupaca, WI, where people can find independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation services all in one place and it's been here since 1895, serving seniors with a strong focus on faith and honesty, always trying to give help that matches every stage of aging and different needs as they come up. Residents and leaseholders get first chance at spots in Bethany Pines, the assisted living part, and Bethany Home, the skilled nursing side, which gives a little peace of mind if health needs change, and everyone here can join in social work support, clinical assessments, and some preventative screenings at no cost, while other services like meals and housekeeping come for an extra fee, covering the needs for those who want help with chores now and then. The "care-free living" model means residents pay one monthly service fee that takes care of basics like lawn care, snow removal, garbage pickup, water, sewer, exterior and appliance maintenance, caretaker checks when traveling, building insurance, and even cable TV, so a lot of the usual upkeep work is off their plate right from the start.

The duplexes have thoughtful layouts, offering either about 1,450 or 1,050 square feet on the main floor with two bedrooms each, and these homes have no-step entrances and all the most important things on one level, plus handrails on both sides of the stairs for easier access, which matters to people with mobility concerns, and then there's the short-term rental unit at 150 Shadow Lake Drive for family visits or group meetings, while a single-family home at 139 Shadow Lake Drive works just like the duplexes if someone wants that. The campus includes gardens, multiple patios, lounges, a wellness center, and set classes or activities at The Springs Wellness Center so nobody's bored, and the public areas and walking spaces let residents, friends, and family spend time together without much hassle. Specialized memory care programming supports people with Alzheimer's and Dementia, while services like daily meals, personal care plans, on-site laundry, beauty services, and an emergency call system cover most of what someone might need, and up to 28 hours of tailored assistance per week is available too.

Transportation to medical appointments is there when the van's open, and shopping and errands help can come as needed, which is a relief for lots of folks. Apartments have kitchens and living rooms, some with patios, and private rooms each have restrooms so it's easy to keep some independence, and on top of that, the community is pet friendly, so people can bring animals with them if that helps them feel at home. The leadership team includes a CEO, Director, and MDS Coordinator, and everyone tries to make sure support comes with honesty, integrity, and dedication while aiming for a welcoming, supportive Christian place for all. With daily activities, public lounges, and up to 20 thoughtfully built duplexes, Bethany Home Inc. tries to focus on independence, security, health, and social well-being, offering a range of senior living options without letting anyone feel forgotten as they age or need more help.
