      Small, caring community; excellent care

I moved my dad in Feb and have been very pleased. It's a small, caring community with amazing individualized and end-of-life care - 1 caregiver per 2 patients, awake night staff, and long-tenured caregivers. Communication can be difficult and it's pricey, but my dad is happy and very well cared for; I highly recommend it.

      Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Shalev Senior Living #2 is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers describe the community as "great," "amazing," and "absolutely terrific," and several explicitly state they would "highly recommend" the facility. Families repeatedly report that residents — in particular the reviewers' fathers — are happy and well cared for, and reviewers express clear satisfaction with the way staff treat residents. The broad tone is one of gratitude and confidence in the community's ability to meet resident needs.

Care quality emerges as the clearest strength. Reviewers emphasize an unusually favorable caregiver-to-patient ratio (reported as one caregiver for every two patients), which supports more individualized attention. Staff longevity is highlighted, suggesting stability and experience among caregivers. Reviewers specifically praise the facility's handling of serious and sensitive situations, including end-of-life care, and describe staff as attentive and compassionate. The presence of awake night-duty personnel is called out as a reassuring safety and care feature.

The facility's smaller size is mentioned repeatedly and is presented positively: reviewers associate the smaller community with individualized care and a close-knit, friendly atmosphere. Phrases such as "smaller community," "great people," and "supportive community" indicate that families value the personal feel and human connection offered. One reviewer noted a move-in in February and weekly window visits, which underscores that families are engaged and observant of their loved ones' condition after placement.

The primary negatives cited are practical rather than about hands-on care. Several reviewers report difficulty communicating with staff, describing staff communication as "hard." Another recurring concern is cost; multiple reviewers call the community "pricey," indicating that affordability may be a barrier for some families. Visitation restrictions or patterns are also mentioned (weekly visits through the window), which may reflect pandemic-era limits or particular visiting policies that some families found restrictive. These are the main recurring concerns and contrast with otherwise strong praise for caregiving and community spirit.

Notably absent from the reviews are specific comments about dining, activities, or physical facilities (amenities, layout, cleanliness), so no firm conclusions can be drawn about those areas from the provided summaries. Management is implied to be competent in terms of staffing and care delivery (given long-tenured staff and favorable staffing ratios), but communication practices between staff and families appear to need improvement based on multiple comments.

In summary, Shalev Senior Living #2 is consistently described by reviewers as a caring, well-staffed, and intimate community that delivers strong individualized and end-of-life care. The standout assets are the low resident-to-caregiver ratio, awake night staff, experienced personnel, and the warm, personalized environment. The most significant concerns center on staff-family communication, cost, and visitation constraints. Prospective families should weigh the high level of hands-on, individualized care and positive family endorsements against the reported communication challenges and higher cost, and should directly verify current visitation and communication policies during their assessment.

The building's modern and clean, you'll find both assisted living and independent living options, and there's a special focus on Alzheimer's Care and memory care services in their own secured part of the property so folks who wander or need extra care don't end up somewhere unsafe or confused, and staff are always nearby, any hour, with a system that alerts them if someone tries to leave or gets lost. The community only takes up to six residents, so everyone can get plenty of attention and support, and residents get help with bathing, dressing, using the restroom, medication, grooming, and daily tasks like meals and laundry, even help to the doctor or for faith outings or running errands, and there's 24/7 staff to watch out for folks who need more help, especially if they can't walk on their own or have trouble moving.

Meals come homemade three times a day, with both vegetarian and kosher choices, and cooks try to make things healthy for people with diabetes or high blood pressure, and there's special recognition for their dining program, which has won awards, just as staff have been singled out for being kind and helpful. You'll find a bright dining area, a vegetable garden everyone can work in, rooms with private baths and wheelchair-accessible showers, tubs if needed, and places inside for books, movies, and crafts, or for just sitting and talking or reading. There's an exercise room, workout programs, a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, and plans for music therapy, pet therapy, and games so you don't get too bored or lonely, and staff keep up a schedule of different activities and community nights most weeks. People can go off-site for outings or stay put for devotional services and religious support, and there's even a traveling stylist or barber for those who want to keep up with haircuts.

Shalev Senior Living #2 can provide support for diabetes, give reminders for restroom use, help with incontinence, assist with both one-person and two-person transfers, and use lifts if someone needs that extra help getting in or out of bed, and folks needing standby help for showers or hygiene will find staff ready. People who show difficult behaviors or tend to wander have a place here, as the building's got systems and secured spaces built for safety. The care team speaks Spanish, Armenian, Filipino, and English, so residents from different backgrounds can feel at home and understood wherever possible. There's free transportation and parking for residents and their visitors, and doctors are on call to handle medical issues when needed.

Licensed by the state, Shalev Senior Living #2 delivers continuing care for different needs as people age, so folks don't have to move away if their health changes or if dementia becomes a problem. They've got a Best of Senior Living All Star award in 2024 and a Best Activities award, mostly for the mix of support, activities, and home-cooked food in a community that keeps things simple, quieter, and a little more personal than what you might get in bigger homes. Housekeeping and laundry come with the care, and residents can find both indoor and outdoor spots to relax or visit with neighbors, enjoying the comforts of a smaller care home that can meet a wide range of needs without feeling like a hospital.
