    Clean, secure, homey facility; attentive

I live here and overall I'm impressed - the facility is large, very clean, homey and secure with well-kept grounds. I have a private furnished room with a TV, home-cooked meals, daily laundry, walks and meds delivered; it's pet-friendly (I have two dogs). Caregivers are attentive, friendly and available around-the-clock, with two live-in staff who arrange personalized outings. Renovations are ongoing and there's currently a waiting list; cost is about $3,200 + meds. My main frustration is communication difficulties from heavy accents, which makes me consider moving despite the otherwise excellent care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for South Hills Manor is positive, with repeated emphasis on cleanliness, a home-like atmosphere, and attentive round-the-clock care. Reviewers consistently describe the facility as very clean and nicely kept both inside and out. The interior is characterized as homey, private rooms are common and come furnished with TVs, and common services such as daily laundry (with careful folding) and home-cooked meals are highlighted as strong points. Several reviews single out daily walks and personalized outings as meaningful activities that contribute to residents' quality of life.

Staff quality and caregiving are central positive themes. Multiple summaries call the staff friendly, patient, helpful, and attentive; caregivers are described as providing excellent, around-the-clock care. There are references to two live-in caretakers and an owner who is nice, indicating a small, close-knit staffing model that some reviewers appreciate for its personalized attention. The facility is also noted as secure and pet-friendly, with at least one resident keeping two dogs as companions, which can be an important quality-of-life factor for prospective residents.

Dining and ancillary services receive favorable mention: meals are described as home-cooked and good, and medication management is convenient for some residents since meds can be delivered to the home. Location is noted positively (near Queen of Angels), which may be convenient for visitors or transfers. The combination of private rooms, regular laundry service, and daily activities gives an impression of attentive, homelike care rather than an institutional environment.

Notable concerns and patterns emerge that prospective residents and families should weigh. Communication problems are a recurring issue: several reviewers report difficulty understanding staff due to heavy accents. While reviewers often qualify that staff are understanding, at least one review mentions frustration significant enough to consider moving. This suggests that language or communication style may impact some residents’ satisfaction and should be discussed with management during a tour or interview. Availability is another clear limitation: multiple summaries note there is currently no vacancy and that a waiting list is advised, so prospective residents may face delays.

Cost and physical condition are additional considerations. One summary lists a price of about $3,200 plus medication costs, which stakeholders should verify and compare against local alternatives and what services are included. Renovations are mentioned as ongoing; while upgrades can be positive in the long term, renovations can also cause short-term disruption, noise, or temporary changes to services. Finally, reviewers note mixed resident acuity and at least some shared bathroom arrangements; this indicates the facility may serve residents with varied needs and that not all rooms have private baths. Prospective residents should ask specifically about room/bathroom configurations and whether the mix of resident care levels aligns with their expectations.

In summary, South Hills Manor is portrayed as a clean, comfortable, and caring small facility with many hospitable touches—private furnished rooms, home-cooked food, daily activity options, and attentive staff—that create a homelike environment. However, prospective residents should probe availability, total cost, the current renovation timeline, bathroom privacy, the resident mix, and communication accommodations related to staff accents to ensure the fit meets their needs and expectations.
