Sisters of Sorrowful Mother

Sisters of Sorrowful Mother is a Catholic nonprofit community in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, operated by the Sisters of Sorrowful Mother for retired Sisters and other seniors, and it was founded by Mother Frances Streitel in Rome back in 1883. The campus offers a calm, peaceful setting with nature and spacious courtyards, like the main courtyard with a fountain, so those who live there can relax or pray together in the chapel, which holds religious services and daily prayer. The place supports seniors who are independent and healthy, and it also provides assisted living and memory care when more help is needed. Elders get 24-hour care, nursing services, and support for different needs, and staff always work to make life feel home-like and safe. Residents can bring small pets or have pet visitors, and families can join in outreach or education programs. The place has a focus on a simple life, shared meals, and daily care for one another, with organized activities such as arts and crafts, fitness classes, educational programs, and outings using their shuttle bus, and they also offer services for those in crisis, like immigrants or those who are sick. There are one- and two-bedroom condominium-style apartments to choose from at Carmel Residence, and on the grounds, you'll find things like a screened community porch, a beauty shop, guest rooms, and group spaces for social and spiritual gatherings. The Sisters and caregiving staff focus on compassion, unity, and helping others, continuing an old tradition of prayer and service, and retirement homes like SSM Franciscan Courts especially care for elderly Sisters. The community's ministries reach out to the poor, the young, the old, refugees, and anyone in need, and there are many stories shared by Sisters who've devoted their lives here.
