    Warm compassionate staff; excellent care

I'm very pleased with the warm, family-like atmosphere and consistently caring staff - nurses, caregivers, dining and activities teams who go above and beyond. My loved one is happier and healthier with timely meds, great meals and choices, tons of activities and outings, clean well-maintained apartments and beautiful riverside grounds, and easy access to medical care. I'd recommend this community for compassionate, engaging senior living.

    Summary of reviews

Resident and family feedback portrays Island Shores as an attractive, well-kept senior living community with many strengths and some operational caveats to verify before move-in. The campus is frequently described as clean, light-filled and scenic, with a mix of newer and older building areas. Apartment options range from studios to one-bedroom units with full kitchens; residents and visitors note river views, garden access, on-site salon and library, and a generally homelike atmosphere. Leadership and front‑line staff receive repeated praise for follow-up, warm welcome, and engagement with newcomers.

Care and staffing are prominent themes. Many accounts describe compassionate, skilled caregivers, timely medication delivery, and staff who go beyond their typical duties to assist residents, including coordination with hospitals and quick responses after hospital returns. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns: families describe staffing shortages or variability in staffing levels, intermittent issues with medication administration, and inconsistent care quality across shifts or units. Communication with families can be uneven at times, with examples of delayed or one-sided follow-up; prospective families should ask about current staffing ratios, clinical oversight, and communication protocols.

Dining and enrichment are clear strengths. Meals are frequently characterized as high quality, with varied menus, daily specials, and accommodation for health-related dietary needs. The community supports an active social calendar — cards, arts, music, exercise classes, shuffleboard, cocktail and social events, regular bus trips, and shopping runs — which residents report as contributing to engagement and well-being. A noted operational limitation is meal-service timing: some residents find meal hours inflexible, which may matter for those needing scheduling flexibility.

Facility operations and safety merit focused inquiry. While many visitors praise maintenance and housekeeping, several comments point to aging sections of the building and episodic maintenance delays. Elevator reliability and contingency planning were specifically called out as a safety and accessibility concern by some families; ask about emergency-access plans, elevator redundancy, and routine maintenance schedules. The facility is otherwise described as secure (attendant coverage and locked access after hours).

In sum, Island Shores presents as a warm, activity-rich community with strong culinary offerings and a generally engaged, caring staff. The principal operational risks to evaluate in person are current staffing stability, medication administration safeguards, consistency of family communication, elevator/maintenance contingency plans, and how the facility manages variability between newer and older building areas. Prospective residents and families will benefit from direct questions about clinical oversight, staffing patterns by shift, meal flexibility options, and documented maintenance/emergency procedures before committing.

About New Perspective Senior Living - Island Shores

New Perspective Senior Living | Island Shores sits right on historic Doty Island in Neenah, Wisconsin, and you'll notice the cozy feel and nice views of ponds and the Fox River, with a Riverwalk residents can stroll along if the weather's good. The building has studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, large windows, plush carpet, and some even show off water views or patios and balconies, and there are both semi-private and single-room options, with room service available when folks need it. Pets are allowed with some guidelines, so small dogs or cats can feel at home beside their owners.

Community spaces include a lounge, library, pub, and fitness center, plus a movie theater room, whirlpool spa, and gardens with raised beds for those who like to garden a little or just sit outdoors for fresh air. Meals are cooked from scratch every day by their culinary team and served in the dining room, and guests can join at mealtimes or even stay overnight sometimes if it helps families stay connected. Folks can choose independent living, assisted living, or memory care, with Alzheimer's care and respite stays also part of the services so someone can get support if health needs change, and staff are on-site or on-call round the clock for help with medication or daily activities.

There are on-site haircut and barber services, plus cleaning, laundry, and light housekeeping, along with cable TV, fast WiFi, emergency call systems in apartments, and parking for visitors. Residents get to join activities like chapel services, happy hour, art classes, card games, pet visits, educational talks, or outings to local restaurants, shops, or parks, which keeps everyone active and dealing with a good variety of things to do. There's a recreation room, an arts and crafts area, a computer zone, and a music group, so social folks or those looking to try something different have something to look forward to through the week.

Licensed health staff and on-site therapy partners handle needs like medication, physical or occupational therapy, and health monitoring, and residents get help that's matched to what each person requires, so independence is supported while keeping care close at hand. Those who want some exercise can use the fitness center for stretching or classes, or simply enjoy the scenic Riverwalk right by the water, which can help with well-being for both mind and body. New Perspective Senior Living | Island Shores is close-five minutes or less-to Theda Clark Hospital, Island Park, and other local shops, YMCA, or community parks, making things easier for errands and visits. The community tries to create a friendly, zero-maintenance lifestyle where people can age in place, keep their pets near, and stay involved, with a dedicated care team handling the rest so the comforts of home stay with you and you don't have to worry about all that upkeep anymore.
