    Friendly staff, clean units, small

I live here and overall I'm pleased - the staff are consistently friendly and helpful, my apartment is new and very clean with a full kitchen and in-unit washer/dryer, and the grounds are attractive. There are tons of art and fitness classes, regular transportation to shops, ample parking, and a great walkable location near theaters/restaurants. Downsides: apartments are a bit small and I've seen occasional cleanliness/maintenance lapses (laundry room, pool deck) and some administrative hiccups. Still, it's a fun, active independent-living community I'd recommend with those caveats.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is positive: residents repeatedly praise Burbank Senior Artists Colony as an active, arts-focused independent living community with friendly staff and a convenient location. Many reviewers highlight the strong social and creative environment — frequent art workshops, drawing classes, fitness offerings, and a full schedule of activities keep residents engaged. Multiple comments call the place "fun" and "interesting," and several reviewers explicitly say they would recommend the community.

Staff and management: Staff receive consistently favorable comments — reviewers describe staff as friendly, helpful, supportive, and responsive, and some specifically praise the move-in orientation and administrative personnel. That said, a minority of reviews raise concerns about management availability and responsiveness in certain situations (for example, a report of the office being closed early and a reviewer who felt staff made excuses when cleanliness problems were reported). These contrasting comments indicate generally good staff interactions but occasional lapses in operational consistency or follow-through.

Facilities and apartments: The grounds and many individual units are praised for cleanliness and recent updates; several reviewers note that rooms feel new, grounds are beautiful, and common areas are nice. Apartments are described as independent one- and two-bedroom units with full kitchens and in-unit washers and dryers — a strong selling point for residents seeking autonomy. However, a common downside is apartment size: units are described as small. There are also maintenance/cleanliness issues reported by a subset of reviewers (unclean laundry facilities, pool deck needing washing, and general remarks that some areas need updating). Parking is a positive feature, with both guest parking and a parking garage mentioned.

Dining, care, and services: Burbank Senior Artists Colony is clearly positioned as independent living — multiple reviews emphasize there are no provided meals and that residents are expected to manage housekeeping, medications, and meal preparation themselves. For prospective residents, this is a crucial point: the community is suitable for people who want an active independent lifestyle and do not require assisted living services or on-site dining. Some reviewers did ask staff about care options and appreciated the responses, but the repeated statements that no meals are served and that tenants handle their own medications indicate limited medical or dining support on-site.

Activities and community life: A standout theme is the breadth and quality of programming, especially arts-related offerings. Numerous reviewers mention artist classes, arts and crafts, drawing, and a wide schedule of classes. Fitness classes and transportation to shops further contribute to an engaged, walkable lifestyle. The location amplifies these benefits: the facility is within walking distance of shops, grocery stores, banks, theaters, and restaurants, which supports independence and social outings.

Patterns of concern and recommendations for prospects: While many reviewers report a very good experience, a minority express notable dissatisfaction driven mainly by cleanliness and management inconsistencies; one reviewer explicitly planned to find a different community after encountering unclean facilities and unsatisfactory responses from staff. Transportation availability is mostly described positively (transport to shops), though a few reviews hint that options may be limited or require scheduling — prospective residents should confirm transportation schedules and limits. Because apartments are small and services are minimal, this community best fits active seniors who want autonomy, an arts-focused lifestyle, and a prime location rather than residents needing dining services or extensive hands-on care.

Conclusion: Burbank Senior Artists Colony is well-regarded for its friendly staff, strong arts programming, convenient location, and independent apartments with full kitchens and in-unit laundry. The primary trade-offs are smaller unit size, the lack of meal service and assisted-care features, and some reported inconsistencies in cleanliness and operational responsiveness. Prospective residents should verify housekeeping and laundry maintenance practices, office hours and responsiveness, transportation schedules, and unit sizes during a tour to ensure the community meets their needs and expectations.

    About Burbank Senior Artists Colony

Burbank Senior Artists Colony sits at 240 East Verdugo Avenue in Burbank, California, and stands out as a creative place for seniors who enjoy the arts, as the community focuses on independent apartment living centered on painting, music, writing classes, and other creative programs, and you'll find things like an art studio, performance theater, colony choir, a Hollywood-themed clubhouse, and all sorts of lifelong learning options like Poetry In Motion, Computer Classes, and Anti-Aging exercise classes that really keep older adults engaged and learning new things. The building opened in 2005, with 141 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, and was specially designed for people usually aged 55 or 62 and older who want to live on their own, but still have access to help if they need it-there are nurses and a doctor on call, nurses on staff, and care is available for those needing respite, memory care, or even hospice, plus they've got wheelchair accessible showers for easy bathing, and they do allow both men and women to live here, which sometimes folks might want to double-check.

The apartments include features such as air conditioning, ceiling fans, some with hardwood flooring and some with carpet, full kitchens with modern appliances like dishwashers and microwaves, and you've got washer and dryer hookups or laundry rooms available, plus internet and satellite television if that's important, and people can even bring up to two cats or two dogs, as long as each weighs under 40 pounds and breed restrictions apply, and there's both covered and off-street parking for residents and visitors, along with gated entry for added security, elevators for easy movement, and fully wheelchair accessible spaces. The place covers over 100,000 square feet, it's managed by Legacy Partners, Inc., and won several building awards which folks who care about that sort of thing might appreciate.

You've got plenty of both indoor and outdoor spaces to spend time in, such as an outdoor pool, patio, community courtyard, sundeck, and recreation room, and there are media rooms and business centers for entertainment or work, plus group exercise programs, scheduled writing classes, and a colony choir where people can sing together, and there's a calendar of organized activities both onsite and offsite. If you need a ride, complimentary transportation is included, meals are available one or two times a day, and there are housekeeping services and help with daily living, such as dressing or bathing, especially for those who need assisted living support. Smoking isn't allowed in any indoor spaces, common or private, and there's a variety of gathering places like the Hollywood-themed clubhouse and performance theater for live music and shows. The community is age-restricted, pet-friendly, and focused on liveability, creativity, and supporting seniors who want to spend their time learning, creating, and enjoying company with others, and all of this sits in a neighborhood in Burbank where you can walk most places or use public transportation fairly easily, with walk, transit, and bike scores of 76, 48, and 71. The Burbank Senior Artists Colony is unique in that it's dedicated specifically to artistic seniors, providing both comfort and an environment where creative people can continue to practice and enjoy their arts, along with enough help to make living here safe and straightforward.
