    Clean safe social well-managed community

I live here and am very happy - the community is clean, safe and beautiful with caring, responsive management and maintenance who go above and beyond. There are abundant sponsored and resident-led activities, a theater, saltwater pool, craft rooms, library and plenty of spaces to entertain family; it's dog-friendly, ADA-accessible and overall great value with a warm, social atmosphere.

    Summary of reviews

Affinity at Olympia presents as a relatively new, amenity-rich independent living community with a resort-like campus and a wide range of communal facilities. Reviewers consistently identify strengths in the built environment: saltwater pools and hot tubs, a theater, multiple craft and workshop spaces, libraries, pubs/cafés, and numerous meeting and entertaining areas. These amenities support a busy social calendar and many resident-led clubs and events, producing a strong sense of community for residents who want an active independent-living lifestyle.

Front-line staff and maintenance frequently receive positive comments for being friendly, caring, and responsive. Many accounts describe prompt repair work and helpful after-hours service, and residents report numerous opportunities to remain engaged through both facility-sponsored and resident-initiated activities. The property is also appealing to pet owners because of dog-friendly policies and available outdoor spaces.

At the same time, there are consistent operational concerns that prospective residents should weigh. Housekeeping and sanitation procedures appear inconsistent: several accounts reference cleanliness and odor concerns in common areas and units, and some reviewers reported mold growth or moisture issues. Relatedly, cleaning and support staffing levels are described as insufficient at times, which can affect hallway and elevator cleanliness and the timeliness of routine services. The community is positioned as independent living; it does not provide comprehensive assisted-living or clinical care, and reviewers caution that the property is not well suited for residents who require hands-on mobility assistance or regular personal-care services.

Management and policy matters are another pattern. Multiple comments describe turnover in management and uneven responsiveness to resident concerns. Some residents report perceived uneven enforcement of rules and inconsistency in income/occupancy-related practices, as well as periodic policy changes and fee increases that affect fixed-income households. There are also reports of restrictive changes to media/TV access and other amenity rules, which some residents found frustrating. Operational issues such as periodic elevator outages, inconvenient building layouts (including distant elevators and parking logistics), and noise from a nearby freeway are additional practical considerations.

In sum, Affinity at Olympia offers extensive amenities and a socially active independent-living environment with generally attentive maintenance and amiable staff. It appears best suited for relatively independent seniors who prioritize social programming, on-site amenities, and pet-friendly policies. Prospective residents and families should conduct focused inquiries about housekeeping and moisture-control procedures, the community’s capacity for mobility support, recent management turnover, and the current fee and media policies to determine fit and long-term predictability.

    About Affinity at Olympia

Affinity at Olympia is a 55+ community in the 98506 neighborhood of Olympia where seniors can choose from studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom units, and pets like cats and small dogs are welcome, so if you've always had a pet, there's no need to give that up. The building stands mid-rise with apartment features like washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave, climate controls, and some units offer in-unit laundry for added convenience, and the floors use a mix of carpet, laminate, and vinyl, which most folks like because they're easy to clean. Residents get all-inclusive monthly payments, so things like rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, cable, and access to community amenities are covered, which helps people keep things simple and not have to juggle a bunch of bills. The community lets seniors stay as independent as possible but has help available with daily tasks when needed, whether that's assisted living, independent living, memory care for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, continuing care, or even skilled nursing if someone's health declines.

People notice the friendly and joyful staff, with folks like Talia, Desiree, Amy, Steve, and David working hard to help residents enjoy their day and get the care they need, while the management team also puts together events like Mother's Day Tea to keep things fun and social, and there's always some activity or another happening either planned by residents themselves or by staff. Residents can stay active and social with the many amenities, and there's a long list-indoor pool and spa, movie theater, fitness center, billiards room, card and game rooms, crafts studio, internet café, library, lounge, business and party rooms, even a community garden and BBQ area for getting outdoors in good weather, and if you like walking there's a garden, patio, and trail too. The dining is noted for using quality ingredients and nutritious choices, with attention to both taste and health, and mealtime feels like a part of the community's daily life.

Transportation services are available, so getting to appointments or stores is possible even if you don't drive anymore, and with controlled access, security, and building maintenance included, residents know the environment is as safe as possible. The building makes things easy with elevators, handicap accessibility, and senior-friendly bathrooms and common spaces. High-speed internet, Wi-Fi throughout the building, cable TV, and even satellite TV are in place, so staying connected is never much of a problem, especially for those who like to stream movies or have video calls with family. Those needing help at home can have trained aides provide companionship or non-medical support, and if memory care is needed, there are safe environments and therapies in place to help those with dementia feel comfortable and secure.

The community's design supports an active and engaging lifestyle with opportunities for fitness, creative interests, and making friends, and there's always a social calendar with events, classes, and gatherings, as well as flexible lease terms from month-to-month up to a year, making it easier for people who aren't sure how long they want to stay. Parking is available, whether you want a spot in a lot, covered parking, or a detached garage, and there's bicycle storage for those who enjoy a ride now and then. The overall feel is one of a classic, homey place where residents help shape the sense of community, people often say it feels welcoming and easy to make a new friend, and the staff are ready to help out with care or even a friendly chat, so seniors can focus on enjoying their retirement years with less worry.
