    Compassionate efficient care and therapy

I stayed here for rehab and was very pleased - the nursing and clinical staff were genuinely caring and responsive, therapy (Kristin and the team) was excellent and helped me regain mobility and carry training home, and rooms and grounds were kept clean. Socials like VFW Bingo and music in the gym made recovery enjoyable, meals were fine, and hospice follow-up and family involvement were handled professionally. I would place my mother here again - compassionate, efficient care and a strong therapy program.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Health Center At Brentwood are sharply mixed, with distinct clusters of very positive feedback focused on clinical care and therapy, and equally strong negative reports focused on facility maintenance, safety, staffing responsiveness, and administrative practices. Multiple reviewers praised the rehabilitation program, naming therapists and therapy activities (notably music in the gym) as particularly effective. Many accounts describe therapists who were encouraging, informative, and instrumental in helping patients regain mobility and transfer skills to the home environment. Positive clinical outcomes, daily room cleaning, and a compassionate nursing team are recurring themes; several reviewers specifically thanked nursing staff for compassionate end-of-life care and prompt handling of a passing, and some cited Executive or Marketing Directors as advocates for patients. Social programming such as bingo and music socials, hospice follow-up, and perceived good value or proximity to home were additional positives frequently mentioned by families and former patients.

However, a significant set of concerns runs through several reviews and cannot be overlooked. Safety-related complaints are severe in some reports: reviewers described an unsafe environment for residents with Alzheimerโ€™s or other mental health conditions, with violent patients allegedly not isolated or properly managed. Facility readiness for emergencies also arose as a problem, with at least one report noting poor preparedness for power outages. Physical plant issues include reports of poor or minimal lighting in halls and bathrooms, lack of air conditioning, odor and maintenance issues, and even roach sightings in rooms. While many found the facility clean and well-maintained, these contrasting reports indicate inconsistent environmental standards across units or over time.

Staffing, responsiveness, and administrative practices show a mixed but concerning pattern. On the positive side, many described caring, helpful nurses and aides and praised the therapy team. On the negative side, some reviewers reported slow response to call lights, perceived understaffing (insufficient aides on halls), and episodes of neglect โ€” including residents kept at a nursesโ€™ station with only medication administration for weeks. Communication problems were also frequently cited: unresponsive staff, poor coordination with families, and home-health coordination failures (including canceled home visits). Administrative issues reach into billing and patient transfers: several reviewers reported billing disputes, unitemized charges, alleged improper changes to insurance, attempts to block transfers to other facilities, and long delays in cooperation from management. These administrative complaints suggest inconsistent application of policies and potential for stressful, time-consuming disputes for families.

Dining and nutritional offerings received mixed feedback; while some said meals were on time and โ€œalright,โ€ others criticized the menu, particularly the lack of diabetic diet choices. Activities and social programming are a strong point for many patients, contributing to a positive rehabilitation experience and overall morale, but other reviewers complained about a lack of meaningful activities in some cases. The physical appearance of the facility was similarly mixed: reviewers called it clean and comfortable in many comments, but several noted that areas are aging, with peeling wallpaper and a need for remodeling.

A notable pattern is variability over time and between stays: multiple reviewers explicitly reported an improved experience on a later stay (improvements in housekeeping, happier nursing staff, and better therapy). This suggests that the center may be responsive to issues or that performance fluctuates with staffing and management changes. Because reviews range from โ€œtop notch careโ€ and โ€œhighly recommendโ€ to โ€œvery poor staff/managementโ€ and โ€œnot recommended for rehabilitation,โ€ the Health Center At Brentwood appears to deliver excellent therapy and compassionate nursing in many cases, but also exhibits serious lapses in safety management, facility maintenance, staffing responsiveness, and administrative transparency in others. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong rehabilitation and clinical strengths against the reported safety and administrative concerns, and inquire specifically about dementia-unit policies, emergency preparedness, staffing ratios, pest control, dietary accommodations, and billing practices before deciding.

    About Health Center at Brentwood

Health Center At Brentwood sits in Lecanto, Florida, and has a strong focus on rehabilitation and senior care, with room for up to 120 residents in private accommodations that come with a wide set of care and support services each month, and the whole place tries to feel as much like home as possible, from the comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, cable TV, and Wi-Fi, to the welcoming community areas like a library, computer center, gaming room, garden, and outdoor spaces where folks can sit or walk. Residents get three home-cooked meals each day in a restaurant-style dining room, and the staff can handle dietary restrictions-including diabetes or high blood pressure-so meals suit medical needs, and help is always available for daily activities like bathing, washing, dressing, and even two-person transfers when needed, while medication management and reminders are part of the regular service, too.

This large care community brings together skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, and special memory care all in one spot, with a separate 74-bed center for independent living and a 165-bed area for assisted living, plus a secured and protected area for memory care, including Alzheimer's programs and therapies meant for folks with dementia to help keep them safe and involved. The staff provides 12-16 hour nursing on-site and 24-hour emergency call systems, so someone's always nearby to help if needed, and there's round-the-clock supervision for anyone with complex medical needs or those needing extra watchfulness.

Fitness programs, exercise classes, and a wellness center make it easier to stay active, while daily community-sponsored events, games, music therapy, animal therapy, arts and crafts, board games, planned day trips, and spiritual groups offer plenty of options for socializing or just keeping busy, and many residents run their own activities, too, so people can join in or help plan what goes on. On top of it all, folks can make use of amenities like a beauty salon or barber shop, a spa, steam room, kitchenette, small library, and even a mobile stylist, with staff organizing everything from movie nights to help arranging transportation for shopping, doctors' visits, or spiritual services.

Transportation options reach beyond the local community, covering medical and non-medical needs, and housekeeping and linen services help keep the living spaces clean and comfortable. Nursing and mental wellness programs are available, with access to psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, and respite care lets families take a break with short-term stays. The staff works to keep things calm and safe, especially during times when infectious diseases pose a risk, and both resident and family councils meet to make sure voices get heard and care stays on track.

Health Center At Brentwood is part of the Consulate Health Care family, which connects it to other nursing homes and senior living communities in the area, and it offers Medicaid and Medicare options, a CCRC model, and several kinds of rooms, though reported average monthly costs near the community come in at $1,860, with specific prices available upon request. Reviews from residents and their families rate the care as excellent, most of all appreciating the attentive caregiving, comfortable setting, and variety of health and wellness programs, all of which aim to support seniors with respect and a sense of belonging.
