I had a very positive experience when my loved one stayed here. Attentive, compassionate staff and daily therapy produced real progress; the facility is clean and well-kept with large private rooms, onsite rehab/gym, pleasant dining areas and warm meals. Management was responsive and supportive - I would recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a divided picture: many families and visitors praise the facility's therapeutic resources, caring staff, and onsite amenities, while other accounts raise operational and clinical concerns that merit scrutiny. The site is consistently described as offering strong rehabilitation services, an active therapy/fitness area, onsite salon services, a variety of communal spaces for visiting and recreation, and well-kept grounds with attractive décor and lake views. Several reviewers specifically note compassionate nursing and therapy staff, routine nursing interactions during rehab stays, and meals that were served warm and appreciated by residents.

Care quality descriptions are mixed. Positive accounts emphasize effective restorative teams and attentive bedside care that supported discharge goals. However, other reports indicate inconsistent responsiveness to call lights and requests, gaps in follow-through on care plans, and specific clinical practice weaknesses around respiratory and tracheostomy care. There are also concerns about incontinence-care timeliness and occasional shortages of basic supplies, which can affect daily comfort and dignity.

Dining and daily living receive varied commentary. Some families describe warm, enjoyable meals and a pleasant dining experience, while others note inconsistent food quality and issues with dining-area cleanliness. The facility's activity offerings and communal rooms are frequently listed as strengths, providing multiple options for socialization and family visits.

Facility and operational issues recur in reviewer narratives. Cleanliness and odor-control problems, along with pest-control concerns, are cited alongside complaints about missing personal items and inventory management. Room sizes and occupancy vary; while many rooms are described as spacious with private baths, there are instances where multi-occupant arrangements created space and privacy challenges. Parking capacity and occasional restrictions during infection-control events were also noted as logistical drawbacks.

Management and communication are uneven across accounts. Several reviewers commend attentive administration and responsive management, yet others report difficulty contacting the facility, delayed medical records and documentation, front-desk phone etiquette issues, and unresolved questions about funds or discharge paperwork. Concerns about medication oversight and the tone of staff communication appear in more serious accounts and should be explored during a facility visit.

In summary, Alden Lakeland Rehab & Health Care Center appears to offer a robust rehabilitation program, many supportive staff members, and a range of amenities that families value. At the same time, there are recurring operational and clinical issues that prospective residents and family members should evaluate directly: infection-control and sanitation protocols, respiratory/tracheostomy practices, staffing responsiveness, supply and belongings management, and channels for timely communication and record access. A site tour, discussion of specific clinical protocols, review of staffing and documentation procedures, and direct conversations about visitation, parking, and room configuration can help families weigh the facility's strengths against the areas of concern noted in reviews.

About Alden Lakeland Rehab & Health Care Center

Alden Lakeland Rehab & Health Care Center sits in Chicago and works mainly as a skilled nursing facility for people who've got serious medical needs, whether that's after a hospital stay, surgery, or illness, and it handles both long-term and short-term needs through the Alden Network, which is good because sometimes folks just need a bit of help to get back on their feet. The building's got 300 beds, and the ownership falls to The Alden Group, LTD, which runs it for profit, while accepting Medicaid and Medicare for payment, so many people can use it if they need to. The facility does a lot when it comes to therapy and specialty care, offering things like short-term rehab, post-acute services, ventilator care, dialysis on-site through a partnership with DaVita Dialysis, memory and dementia care, neurostroke and cardiac rehab, as well as orthopedic therapy. Residents get skilled nursing between 12 and 16 hours a day, and there's a 24-hour call system and emergency alerts in place for safety.

Rooms come with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, air conditioning, telephones, Wi-Fi, and they're already furnished, so moving in isn't too much work, plus there are options for folks who have allergies since the kitchen staff, including a professional chef, will make meals that suit special diets, and meals happen in a restaurant-style dining room. The center runs scheduled activities daily, from movie nights to music programs, fitness classes, and even has its own movie theater, arts and crafts room, library, and spa, and folks have both indoor and outdoor common areas with walking paths, community gardens, and beautifully landscaped spaces where people can get some fresh air or have outdoor programs. For folks who need them, the place arranges transportation and helps with moving in, plus there are practical services like housekeeping, laundry, and family support, and a business room for those who still need to keep up with a bit of paperwork.

There have been federal and state inspections over the years, with Alden Lakeland earning a two out of five star rating on Medicare for staffing, inspections, and quality; it has received citations, including for pressure ulcer care, and has faced lawsuits over allegations of negligence and resident abuse, which is something families might want to ask about. In the last three years, the home got federal fines totaling around $61,400. The staff speak English, and there may be other languages spoken by some clinic staff, though there's no clear list of what those might be.

Right now, Alden Lakeland Rehab & Health Care Center isn't accepting new patients, and while the facility doesn't offer much in the way of marketing hype, it does try to provide needed medical and rehabilitation services for people coming out of hospitals or living with more complex conditions. People considering the center should weigh both its mix of therapy options and its inspection history as they think through their choices.
