About Manistee County Medical Care Facility

Manistee County Medical Care Facility has been around since 1868, starting as the County Farm and Hospital, and over time it's grown and changed, with the latest big renovation happening back in 2004 when they added 20 rooms after a $2 million project and these days it's a county-owned, not-for-profit nursing facility with a 96-bed skilled nursing license, offering a mix of private and semi-private rooms, with 66 private and 15 semi-private rooms after some recent work, and the place sits right next to West Shore Medical Center, with a tunnel connecting the two buildings for safe movement between them, which comes in handy for both residents and hospital staff and you'll find murals in the tunnel that local art students painted to make it more cheerful. The staff is a big team, over 80 people counting everything from nurses, certified nursing assistants, and social workers to therapists, maintenance, volunteers, and dietary staff, and there's a Medical Director, Dr. Ryan Sullivan, who's from Crystal Lake Clinic. The facility stays open around the clock, all year long, and offers short-term or long-term care, along with specialized programs for memory care and palliative care, plus rehabilitation services like physical, occupational, and speech therapy. There are therapy gyms for rehabilitation, items residents should bring like toiletries, clothing, a durable power of attorney, and maybe favorite entertainment devices, and the building has equipment and features to support resident well-being. You'll find social services, along with counseling, and they offer memory care services and personalized nursing and rehabilitation programs for people with different health needs, plus a variety of other amenities to make the stay easier. The County of Manistee operates the place together with the Department of Human Services of Michigan, and a lot of volunteers from the community come in to help, and the main goal is to provide patient-centered skilled nursing care in a comfortable and supportive setting. There are plans to keep improving, with more updates coming, including a dementia unit and more rehabilitation spaces as part of their ongoing renovation efforts, and over the years they've built a steady record of serving local seniors and folks needing skilled rehabilitation care in a nonprofit setting.
