    Caring staff and excellent meals

I'm very pleased with the recent upgrades and the new, caring staff - trained RNs/CNAs, outstanding physical therapists, and a helpful business office. My loved one's room is clean, the meals are excellent (you can tell the kitchen staff takes pride), and residents seem genuinely happy and well cared for. Overall a compassionate, professional community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Polson Health & Rehabilitation Center elicits a mixed set of impressions. Many reviews highlight strong rehabilitative services and a therapy team that is skilled and effective; physical and occupational therapy are repeatedly identified as a relative strength. Several comments also describe caring, friendly direct-care staff and recent hiring/upgrades that have improved visible conditions in parts of the building. The facilityโ€™s location adjacent to a hospital, an active kitchen staff, helpful business-office staff, and a generally pleasant social atmosphere are additional positives noted by reviewers.

Despite these strengths, a number of operational concerns recur across accounts. Staffing levels and consistency are a central theme: reviewers describe chronic shortages and variable CNA coverage, which reviewers link to delays in attending to residentsโ€™ needs and inconsistent implementation of individualized care plans. These operational gaps appear to affect basic care processes, including bathing and hygiene schedules, incontinence-care responsiveness, transfer and mobility assistance, and fall prevention. Relatedly, reviewers identified weaknesses in staff training for transfers and personal care that can undermine resident safety.

Clinical care and monitoring also present mixed signals. There are reports of inadequate chronic-disease monitoringโ€”most notably diabetes managementโ€”and instances suggesting uneven medication administration and follow-up. A number of reviewers described lapses in clinical-assessment follow-through and in communication with families about clinical incidents. There are also serious, though sometimes isolated, allegations concerning staff professional conduct, including one claim of impairment; prospective families may wish to ask about current staffing oversight and disciplinary processes.

Facility operations and amenities draw both praise and criticism. Several reviewers note clean, upgraded rooms and engaging common areas, while others raise sanitation, laundry, and linens-management issues. Meal service is a divided area: some praise the food and kitchen staff, while others cite inconsistent meal temperature and service problems. Activity programming is described as limited or inconsistent by some reviewers, although other accounts describe happy, engaged residents.

Management and communication emerge as an important pattern. Multiple reviews reference delayed or unsatisfactory responses to complaints, long phone hold times, and instances of curt or unprofessional interactions. Conversely, some reviewers report helpful administrative contacts and improvements after upgrades. Cost is another recurring consideration: some reviewers feel the facilityโ€™s pricing is high relative to the quality and consistency of care received.

For prospective residents and families: clarify current staffing ratios and recent hiring/stability; review written care-plan processes and how they are audited for implementation; ask specifically about diabetes protocols, medication administration checks, and fall-prevention measures; tour recently upgraded rooms and inspect laundry/linen procedures; inquire how complaints are handled and what steps management has taken in response to past concerns. Reviewing recent inspection records and asking to speak with the therapy and nursing leadership can help assess whether the positive elements reviewers describe are consistent and whether the operational weaknesses have been addressed.
