    Family owned compassionate attentive value

I toured this family-owned, well-run community and was very pleased. The staff (Brenda and the director included) were friendly, informative and compassionate, caregivers attentive, and residents active and happy. Rooms are spacious with private baths and large closets, the shady, nicely laid-out grounds sit close to medical services, meals are tasty and balanced, and outings/activities and accessibility are all well handled - great value.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers present a predominantly favorable view of Westbrook Assisted Living, highlighting strong administrative leadership, attentive caregiving staff, and a clean, home-like environment. The facility is frequently described as well maintained with an open layout, shaded grounds, and a convenient location near medical services, shopping, beaches and parks. Pricing and ownership structure are seen as competitive and straightforward, and staff are characterized as responsive and compassionate.

Care and staff: Multiple comments emphasize knowledgeable and professional administration and compassionate caregivers. Family-owned management is noted for clear communication about services and costs, and specific staff members were praised for being informative and proactive in care coordination, including arranging hospice placement when needed. Interpersonal interactions are consistently described as friendly and resident-focused.

Dining: Dining is generally viewed positively. Reviewers describe balanced, home-style meals with southern-style options and occasional “family dinner” events. Meals are included in many arrangements, and the menu appearance and food quality were cited as strengths. The presence of an on-site beauty/barber shop and available transportation for outings are additional service features that support resident quality of life.

Activities and engagement: The facility offers activities and organized outings with transportation, and some reviewers observed interactive, happy residents. However, there is an inconsistency in visible activity programming: while several reviewers noted encouraged participation and a range of social opportunities, others reported limited resident presence in public areas and an apparent lack of activity at certain times. Prospective residents and families should ask for a current activities calendar and observe common-area use during different times of day.

Facilities and accessibility: The physical plant is described as clean, comfortable, and well set up, with spacious private rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and large closets. Accessibility for wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters is emphasized. At the same time, parts of the building show signs of aging — reviewers cited the need for painting and more modern furnishings — and some common corridors were described as narrow, dim, or subject to uneven temperature control. These are primarily cosmetic and environmental concerns rather than cleanliness or safety deficits, but they can affect resident comfort.

Management and policies: Management is viewed as professional and communicative, with helpful staff who explain services and costs clearly. The facility’s after-hours access is controlled, which may be perceived as a safety measure but can also limit visitor flexibility; families should confirm visitation policies and access procedures. Pricing is frequently described as competitive and transparent.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The strongest, consistent themes are competent administration, caring staff, good dining, cleanliness, and accessibility. The primary operational weaknesses are physical-plant aging (cosmetic updates needed), some corridor lighting/temperature issues, and inconsistent visible activity engagement in common spaces. Prospective families should tour at different times of day to assess activity levels and common-area usage, review the current activities schedule, and inspect room and corridor conditions to ensure they match expectations. Overall, Westbrook appears to deliver attentive, resident-centered care in a pleasant, conveniently located setting, with a few environmental and programming areas to confirm during a visit.

    About Westbrook Assisted Living Facility

Westbrook Assisted Living Facility in Geneva, Alabama, is what you'd call a small, homey place with only 16 assisted living units, aiming to give older adults the support they need but with as much independence as possible, and they allow cats and dogs, so residents don't have to say goodbye to their pets just because they need a little extra help. Residents can choose from single bedrooms, studios, and shared options, with private bathrooms and kitchenettes in every room, plus air-conditioning, high-speed internet, and cable TV, which makes it easier for folks used to modern comforts to settle in, and all the rooms come fully furnished if you don't want to bring much from home. Bathing, dressing, continence and mealtime help, along with medication management, are part of daily care, and caregivers stay on-site around the clock with a 24-hour call system for safety, so residents can always get assistance when needed, whether it's dealing with Parkinson's, diabetes, dementia, or just getting up out of bed and making their way to breakfast.

Three chef-prepared meals come each day, using organic and quality ingredients, and special diets like low/no sodium or no sugar are available, plus individual dining help if eating has gotten tough, and folks can help themselves to snacks in the kitchen any time. The communal kitchen and spacious indoor and outdoor common areas, along with a library section, chapel services, and walking paths, mean residents have plenty of places to relax or join in on activities and programs designed to keep minds and bodies active, and you'll see they try to make things as homelike as possible. There's Wi-Fi throughout, high-definition TVs, and telephone service, so staying in touch with family is straightforward, and the facility provides transportation for medical appointments and offers both complimentary and extra-fee transport for errands or outings. Laundry and housekeeping services, along with linen changes and medication help, are all routine, and residents can take advantage of in-room wheelchair-accessible showers and safety features built in for peace of mind.

Westbrook Assisted Living Facility focuses on a team approach, too, with Ms. Regina Harrison as the administrator and Dr. Dale Mitchum as the business manager, plus a dedicated nursing staff on hand 24/7 for both everyday help and high-acuity needs, and the facility can provide both non-ambulatory and memory care for those who need it. They serve residents who need regular care but don't require a full nursing home, offering respite or short-term stays as well, and they have a pharmacy, medication management, a continence program, and all kinds of support with daily living activities. The setting itself is pleasant, with resort-style touches and a warm, welcoming feel, and folks value that the services cater to individual needs and preferences, always aiming to give both comfort and a sense of community. The facility is not BBB accredited but holds Alabama license # D3103, and it comes with a number of hospitality features including a concierge, organized activities, health and wellness programs, and both indoor and outdoor gathering areas, all meant to help seniors feel respected, comfortable, and like they belong even as their needs change.
