    Resort-like community with excellent amenities

I live here and I'm very pleased - beautiful, resort-like grounds and spacious, well-appointed apartments and villas. The staff and medical team are consistently kind and professional, dining is excellent across multiple restaurants, and services like concierge, housekeeping and transportation make life easy. Amenities and activities are abundant (gym, indoor saltwater and outdoor pools, theater, arts, fitness classes, pickleball), so it's easy to stay active and social.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed: many reviewers praise Splendido's accommodations, dining, activities, and the availability of a life care continuum, while several raise significant concerns about cost, transparency, management decisions, and staffing. The positives are consistent and concrete — reviewers repeatedly mention well-appointed villas and apartments, a pleasant dining experience, and an active social environment. However, the negatives are also prominent and clustered around financial terms and recent operational changes, including reports that the community is not what it used to be.

Facilities and independent living: Reviews collectively emphasize that the physical campus and housing options are strong points. Multiple summaries note 'great accommodations' with both villas and apartments available, suggesting variety and quality in independent living offerings. The independent living program itself is described positively, with residents appearing socially engaged and the community providing a good standard of living for those who do not yet require higher levels of care.

Dining, activities, and social life: Dining is repeatedly described as good, and food service is called out as a strength. The social life and programming also receive favorable remarks: residents are described as social, and there are 'lots to do' with a good overall program. This indicates a robust activity schedule and community culture that supports engagement and social interaction among residents.

Care continuum and clinical services: A major positive theme is the life care program and the continuum of care from independent living through memory care. Reviewers view the availability of on-site memory care and a clear path from independent living to higher levels of care as a significant advantage, providing long-term peace of mind. At the same time, there are worrying reports about direct care staffing — specifically 'limited caregivers and CNAs' — which could affect the quality of assisted or skilled services. This creates a tension: the structural promise of a full continuum of care exists and is valued, but some users report current staffing limitations that may undermine the delivery of that care.

Management, costs, and contract transparency: Financial and management issues are the clearest sources of dissatisfaction. The community is described as 'expensive upfront' with a required down payment and sizable upfront investment. Reviewers explicitly mention an 'unclear refund on exit,' signaling a lack of transparency or dissatisfaction with how exit fees/refunds are handled. Additionally, at least one summary characterizes recent management as 'focused on money' and suggests a decline in overall quality compared with the past ('not like it used to be'). Taken together, these points indicate that potential residents and families should pay close attention to contract details, refund policies, and recent management practices when evaluating Splendido.

Patterns and final assessment: The reviews portray Splendido as a community with many of the hallmarks people look for in a senior living campus — solid accommodations, good dining, active programming, and an attractive life-care continuum. However, these strengths are tempered by recurring concerns about high entrance costs, unclear exit/refund policies, and reports of staffing shortages and management decisions that some perceive as prioritizing finances over quality. The pattern suggests that while the community can offer an excellent lifestyle for independent residents, prospective residents and families should thoroughly review financial contracts, ask for specifics about refund policies and staffing levels, and seek up-to-date information about management practices and caregiver availability before committing.

    About Splendido

Splendido is a Life Plan Community for adults aged 55 and better, sitting in a spot with breathtaking views of the Santa Catalina Mountains, where people can find both villa and terrace homes that are contemporary and comfortable, and all the buildings have wheelchair accessible showers, with many types of accommodations like apartments, resort-style spaces, guest ranches, and destination spas, plus amenities such as a holistic wellness center, spa, and a leading-edge fitness center, so there's always something for body and mind. You'll find lots to do here, because there are activities that let residents engage socially, physically, mentally, and emotionally, which helps everyone connect and feel part of a friendly and social community, and dining is a big focus too, with carefully curated menus, vegetarian options, and distinctive restaurants, along with fresh Mediterranean cuisine. Splendido offers unique food and drink tours, culinary events, and connects with the City of Gastronomy, plus things like golf, nightlife, shopping, kids' activities, and various arts and entertainment options.

People living here can feel secure knowing there's a continuum of care available through Sonora at Splendido, so as care needs change, the community can support independent living, assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, skilled nursing, high acuity care, diabetic care, incontinence care, and non-ambulatory care, including help with daily activities, and there's a unique Life Care Plan that's the only one of its kind in southern Arizona, which means residents have support as health needs grow. The staff keeps friendly hospitality a priority and meals are nutritious, with quality ingredients, and the community takes pride in services that are distinctive and tailored to individuals. People can join health and wellness programs, take part in nature immersion, creative arts, and sound bathing, and enjoy wellness activities that help with long-term good health.

There are helpful resources for senior care planning and caregiving, including a documentary called "Time to Get Ready" and real resident stories, so families and future residents can learn what life is like here. Splendido has been recognized for its innovative wellness programs and keeps a strong focus on helping residents explore, learn, and connect, with on-site skilled care for those needing more than assisted living. Staff offer personalized support, and the community supports active, vibrant living for seniors, but what stands out is the unique Life Care Plan not found anywhere else in southern Arizona, making Splendido a forward-thinking choice for those wanting a place to stay involved, supported, and well-cared for, all within a setting that feels both lively and welcoming.
