    Caring staff helped regain independence

I placed my dad here after a hospital stay and was very pleased. Staff were organized, kind and attentive-wound care and vitals were timely and PT/OT (Brian, Andrea, Giovanni) helped him regain independence. The facility felt clean and homey, meals were good, and hands-on owners/managers made us feel supported. Overall a very positive, family-like experience that I recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Rowland Convalescent Hospital describe a facility with clear strengths in rehabilitation, handsโ€‘on caregiving, and a familyโ€‘oriented culture, alongside operational weaknesses that produce variable resident experiences. The therapy teams (physical and occupational therapy) receive consistent praise for enabling functional recovery and independence; multiple accounts highlight successful mobility gains and woundโ€‘care progress. Many reviewers describe caregivers and therapists as compassionate, patient, and emotionally supportive, and they note that case managers and specific staff members are responsive and helpful when coordinating discharge or followโ€‘up care.

Dining and facility environment are described positively by numerous reviewers: the building is generally clean, welcoming, and pleasantly decorated, with meals characterized by several families as homeโ€‘style and superior to acute hospital fare. Hospice and respite options are available and are reported to be provided with attention to comfort and pain management. Emergency response procedures (for example, calling 911 when needed) were noted as functioning in some instances.

At the same time, a pattern of inconsistent operations emerges. There are repeated descriptions of uneven staffing โ€” particularly overnight โ€” and delays in responding to call bells or urgent requests, which translate to concerns about timely attention during certain shifts. Several comments describe limitations in HR oversight and staff accountability that may contribute to variable conduct and professionalism. Reviewers also raise facilityโ€‘level concerns about personalโ€‘property safeguards and privacy controls, including allegations of missing items and a privacy incident; these point to weaknesses in property handling and dataโ€‘security processes that prospective families should review.

Communication is another recurrent theme: while some families praise responsive case managers, others report gaps in routine updates and incident followโ€‘up. Meal quality appears variable across stays, and although many find the food good, a minority describe it as substandard. The physical plant is generally clean and well cared for, but parts of the building are described as dated and uneven in condition. There are also references to inconsistent sanitation or infectionโ€‘control practices in a minority of accounts, suggesting the need to confirm current protocols.

Taken together, the reviews indicate that Rowland Convalescent Hospital can deliver highโ€‘quality rehabilitation and compassionate dayโ€‘toโ€‘day caregiving, particularly when therapy teams and onโ€‘site management are actively engaged. However, variability in overnight staffing, communication, property/security controls, and some operational processes has produced divergent experiences for families. Prospective residents and their families should consider an inโ€‘person visit that includes meeting therapy staff, reviewing staffing schedules (especially nights), asking about property and privacy safeguards, and clarifying the facility's incidentโ€‘reporting, infectionโ€‘control, and familyโ€‘communication protocols before admission.
