    Dirty neglectful care overpriced dangerous

I placed my loved one here and was shocked: rooms were dirty, smelly, cramped or shared, and there was no AC or water during extreme heat. Staff were often apathetic and inept-meals missed or terrible, clothing went missing, medications mishandled, catheters left unattended, doctor never visited, and my relative developed sepsis/stroke and later died; emergency pickup and overall attentiveness were poor. They do have PT and doctors on staff, accept insurance, and offer activities (singing, films, bingo), but it's overpriced and only a short-term option in my experience.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews for Autumn Hills Healthcare are mixed but skew toward serious concerns. Several reviewers praise specific services (meals, activities, short-term/emergency care and some caring staff), but a larger portion of summaries raise substantial red flags about cleanliness, basic utilities, medical care, staff attentiveness, and security of personal belongings. The pattern suggests inconsistent quality of care: some families had positive, accommodating experiences while others reported severe neglect and adverse outcomes.

Care quality and clinical concerns: A number of reviews report very serious clinical problems — allegations of overmedication, sepsis, stroke, an unattended catheter, and claims that a doctor never visited. There is at least one report of a resident’s death while at the facility. These are high-severity issues that speak to potential lapses in medical oversight, infection control, and nursing attention. At the same time, some reviewers noted that doctors and physical therapists are on staff, indicating the facility may have clinical resources available — but the reviews suggest these resources are applied inconsistently. The recurring theme is variability: some residents received timely, appropriate care, while others experienced significant neglect or inadequate follow-up.

Staffing, responsiveness, and attitude: Multiple reviews describe apathetic or inept staff and poor attentiveness, with specific complaints about inadequate response when residents needed help. Conversely, a subset of reviews highlights staff who were accommodating, quick to act, and caring, suggesting there are competent employees but not uniformly across shifts or units. The inconsistent staff performance is reinforced by comments about poor responses from management when concerns (such as missing clothing or care issues) were raised. This unevenness in staff competence and responsiveness is a primary driver of the polarized experiences reported.

Facilities and environment: Several reviewers report dirty and smelly rooms, small or shared rooms, and alarming claims of no air conditioning or no water during extreme heat. These are significant environmental and safety concerns that affect residents’ comfort and health. Such reports point to problems with basic facility maintenance, infection control, and emergency preparedness. Positive comments about the facility are fewer and tend to focus on individual interactions rather than the physical environment.

Dining and activities: Opinions about meals are split — some reviewers explicitly state that the food is “very good,” while others call the meals “terrible” or say no food was provided. This inconsistency suggests variability in meal delivery or quality control. Activities are consistently mentioned as a positive: singing, film shows, and bingo are offered and appreciated by reviewers who commented on programming. Activities appear to be a relative strength compared with clinical care and housekeeping.

Security of belongings and administrative issues: Multiple complaints about clothing theft and missing personal items (shirts, vests, new pants) along with disappointment in staff response indicate problems with resident property management and the facility’s ability or willingness to investigate and resolve such incidents. Several reviewers also described the facility as overpriced relative to the level of care and service received, and at least one family felt their relative needed to be moved to assisted living, implying Autumn Hills was not meeting long-term care needs.

Use case and overall recommendation from reviewers' perspective: Some reviewers view Autumn Hills as a workable short-term or emergency option — noting quick admissions, emergency pickup, insurance acceptance, on-site PT and doctors — but many reviewers explicitly advise that it is not suitable for long-term placement due to the safety, cleanliness, and care concerns described. The dominant pattern is one of inconsistent performance with potentially serious consequences for vulnerable residents.

What prospective families should note: Reviews indicate major variability in experience. If considering Autumn Hills, families should verify current staffing levels and supervision, ask about medical oversight and typical physician visit frequency, confirm policies for medication administration and infection control, inspect room cleanliness and climate control (especially in warm months), inquire about procedures for safeguarding personal belongings, and review recent inspection or complaint records. Given the mix of positive and severe negative reports, an in-person visit and detailed, written answers to these specific questions are strongly advised before admission.
