    Brand new facility, caring staff

I toured and moved my family member in and feel reassured - the brand-new, spotless facility and lovely courtyard feel like home. Staff from marketing (Julie) to the executive team and caregivers are warm, professional and attentive; concierge Michael and Chef Jimmy went above and beyond. Activities are plentiful and engaging, memory-care approach feels thoughtful, and administration was responsive, making the transition seamless. Overall I'm very pleased with the care and community.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of The Preserve at Woodland Hills describe a facility with strong physical attributes but inconsistent operational performance. The building and grounds are frequently praised: reviewers note a new, well-maintained one-story layout, attractive courtyard and garden access, spacious home-like rooms, and up-to-date fitness and communal spaces. Several commenters highlighted particular staff members and departments (admissions, concierge, activities, and a well-regarded chef) that delivered a positive, personalized move-in experience and ongoing social engagement.

Care quality impressions are mixed. Many families and residents described compassionate, attentive caregivers and effective hospice or clinical partnerships that improved day-to-day life. At the same time, others described concerning clinical and care-process gaps: medication-administration errors or inconsistent timing, incontinence-care and sanitation concerns, wound-care and weight-loss observations, and instances implying gaps in food-safety controls. These items point to uneven clinical oversight rather than uniform failure; some shifts or teams appear to provide strong care while others fall short.

Staffing and leadership present another pattern of contrasts. Numerous reviews praise specific leaders and frontline staff for professionalism, warmth, and responsiveness; several named staff members were singled out as positive influences. Conversely, the facility is described as having high staff turnover, periodic understaffing (notably on weekends), frequent reliance on agency or less-experienced personnel, and morale challenges during transitions. Management responsiveness is also inconsistent in family accounts: some leaders are described as approachable and hands-on, while other accounts cite poor communication, slow follow-up, ignored family council input, and billing or vendor-payment issues—including allegations of unpaid invoices—which raise concern about administrative controls.

Dining and activities similarly show variability. Positive reports note appealing, chef-driven menus and engaging activities, including holiday programming and opportunities for family gatherings. Criticisms include uneven meal quality or delays in meal service and an activities program that can be limited or inconsistent depending on staffing. Memory-care programming receives mixed marks: some families value an open, non-restrictive memory-care environment and a Montessori-aligned approach, while others felt the facility lacked true Montessori implementation or sufficient dementia-specific training and staffing for higher-acuity memory care needs.

Taken together, the reviews describe a facility with strong amenities and pockets of excellent, personalized care that is undermined at times by operational inconsistency. The dominant themes to evaluate in a prospective visit are staffing stability and ratios, medication administration and clinical oversight protocols, sanitation and incontinence-care procedures, dining and food-safety practices, dementia-care training and program fidelity, and financial/billing transparency. Touring at different times of day (including mealtimes and weekends), asking for staffing schedules and turnover statistics, reviewing state survey history, and speaking with current families can help determine whether the positive features are consistently in place for your loved one.

About The Preserve at Woodland Hills

The Preserve at Woodland Hills Assisted Living & Memory Care sits in Los Angeles, California, and welcomes adults aged 60 and older who need help with daily life or memory care support, since they have services for both assisted living and specialized dementia care, with private rooms for those who want more personal space, and you'll see that some rooms have their own baths and some have shared baths but with enough space to allow privacy and comfort. The staff is friendly and accessible, trained to help people with different needs, and the facility's environment feels safe, especially for those with Alzheimer's and other dementia issues, since the building's design helps reduce confusion and wandering.

People living here can have their own furnishings and are encouraged to decorate their suites with pieces from home, which makes the place feel familiar. The Preserve has a range of services-including the award-winning Spark® Program that focuses on helping residents with social skills, memory exercises, and setting goals-plus regular activities to give everyone something to do each day, whether it's exercise classes, gardening, movie nights, or music around the grand piano. There's a spa, a salon, and happy hours, and even a pet-friendly dog park so folks can keep their pets close by if they want the company.

Residents can choose from several apartment layouts, and apartments start at $5,500 per month. Every apartment and common area is designed with seniors in mind, with handicap accessible features, Wi-Fi, and comfortable spots indoors and out, like patios and shaded gazebos. Security is important, especially in memory care, so areas are set up to keep people safe while letting them move around as much as possible.

Housekeeping, transportation, and dining are all provided. The dining team serves gourmet meals and special delicacies, and there's a focus on good nutrition. For fun and connection, there's a full calendar of activities: exercise, gardening, arts, movies in the theater, and plenty of chances to meet with others. Staff assist with personal care needs like bathing and dressing, and they work from personalized care plans for each resident. Families and visitors often mention the helpfulness and kindness of the staff, and the reviews suggest people feel satisfied with the community. The Preserve at Woodland Hills is a Continuing Care Retirement Community, so it's set up to support people as their needs change. Those considering the community can schedule tours, see photos, and get information in person if they want a closer look at daily life inside.
