    Spotless comfortable community friendly staff

I'm very satisfied with this community - diverse resident options, spotless rooms, peaceful and comfortable, easy to visit, scheduled outings, well-balanced meals and good air conditioning. I find the staff on point, friendly, kind and knowledgeable, and Spanish/English is spoken; one small suggestion: consider adding CNAs to assist with showers.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed picture of Golden Manor Retirement Center. Positive feedback highlights a congenial resident population, a bilingual environment accommodating Spanish and English speakers, and several practical comforts such as effective air conditioning and well-balanced meals. Many reviewers described caregiving staff as compassionate and knowledgeable, and they praised the facility’s scheduled activities and organized outings that contribute to social engagement. The facility’s open, visitor-friendly layout and generally peaceful rooms were also cited as advantages by prospective families and residents.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns that prospective residents should evaluate. Cleanliness and sanitation practices were described inconsistently: some rooms and common areas were reported as clean while others raised sanitation concerns. Several comments pointed to persistent odor issues associated with indoor smoking, suggesting ventilation and smoking-policy enforcement may be uneven. The building itself appears to be older; reviewers noted small apartment footprints and shared-bedroom configurations that may limit privacy and storage.

Staff performance is similarly mixed. Many reviewers praised frontline caregiving staff for compassionate care and routine responsiveness. However, there are notable concerns about the tone and consistency of staff conduct in administrative or office-facing roles, including instances of unfriendly interactions. Operational gaps were also described in appointment coordination and follow-up, as well as in responses to clinical incidents — including unclear communication to families after serious events. Some reviewers specifically recommended increasing trained personal-care staff (for example, CNAs) to ensure reliable assistance with bathing and other activities of daily living.

Management and cost transparency emerged as additional decision points. Perceptions of value varied: some reviewers characterized the facility as affordable, while others found the price high relative to the physical condition and level of service. Prospective residents should confirm current rates, what is included in base pricing, and any additional fees. Given the range of experiences described, a recommended approach is an in-person tour focusing on housekeeping routines, smoking/ventilation policies, staffing levels for personal care, incident-response protocols, and sample dining. Families may also request clarification on language support, staffing ratios, and recent maintenance or renovation work to make an informed placement decision.

    About Golden Manor Retirement Center

Golden Manor Retirement Center sits in the Civic Center District at 1109 West Beverly Blvd., Montebello, CA 90640, where folks will notice that the community offers assisted living, independent living, memory care, nursing care, and respite care all under one roof, and the staff there really do try to look out for everyone, whether you need help with dressing, bathing, walking, taking medicine, or just someone to check in on you during the day or night with that 24-hour call system. The nurses and caregivers know how to help those with different needs, including people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, and they set up care plans and activities that are meant to give the right support and safety; for people who need skilled nursing, wound care, medication support, or things like occupational therapy, that's all available, too, so when families come to visit, they can tell there's care being given, even if some days are tougher than others.

The rooms at Golden Manor come furnished, most with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, air conditioning, cable TV, wifi, and are easy to manage if you need a wheelchair or extra help getting around, plus there are washers and dryers to keep things clean and kitchens for those who still like to cook a little; some people want apartment-style setups, others just a comfortable room, and those choices are here. Around the property, residents find a dining room, fitness room, salon, spa, library, computer center, game room, and a garden or outdoor space, which makes it easy to keep busy or just sit somewhere peaceful. There's an emergency alert system, a sprinkler system for safety, concierge services, and move-in help if you need it, and transportation is on hand for shopping trips, outings, or medical appointments.

Meals at Golden Manor come from a professional chef, with menus designed to fit special diets or nutritional needs, and both one or two meals a day can be arranged, while meal planners try to make sure that everyone has what they need to stay healthy; a lot of residents appreciate that the dining experience is a big part of daily life, and the dining staff are known to be cheerful and friendly. People don't get left sitting around for long, because there's a wide mix of group activities like crafts, educational programs, fitness classes, movie nights, and even devotional activities, as well as offsite excursions if you feel up to it, which means you can have as much company or as much quiet as fits your mood. The center also adds services like laundry, housekeeping, maintenance, and help with bathing, dressing, and things like non-ambulatory care or incontinence care, which takes pressure off families.

Family members can read educational articles on elder care and safety, find information about other senior communities, or use the online "connect" feature to set up a tour or an assessment, and the staff will explain costs, contract terms, move-in steps, or if there's a waiting list. Staff speak English and are known for being joyful and kind, and the community's review score, hovering near 9.7 out of 105 reviews, is a sign that most residents and their loved ones feel cared for here, even if no place is ever perfect. Golden Manor Retirement Center welcomes older adults needing a safe, helpful place to live and does its best to make people comfortable, supported, and as independent as possible each day.
