    Immaculate oasis with inclusive staff

I toured this Palm Springs mid-century modern oasis and liked it a lot. Immaculately landscaped grounds with breathtaking Mt. San Jacinto views, private patios, helpful built-ins and stone counters, a lovely dining room with fireplace and chef-prepared meals three times daily, active social calendar and shuttle service - and, most importantly, warm, attentive staff and leadership who made the community feel safe, welcoming, and LGBTQ+ inclusive.

    Summary of reviews

Stonewall Gardens presents as a boutique, resort-like assisted living community with a strong Palm Springs character: mid-century modern architecture, carefully curated decor, and expansive mountain and desert views. The physical setting and well-maintained landscaping are recurring strengths, and the property emphasizes outdoor social areas, private patios, and gated, pet-friendly spaces. The facility’s small size contributes to an intimate atmosphere that many families describe as fostering new friendships and frequent social interaction.

Care quality and staffing are described predominantly in positive terms. Caregivers are characterized as compassionate, attentive, and competent; med-techs and nursing staff receive repeated praise for medication support and safety vigilance. Staff are credited with learning residents’ individual preferences and routines (laundry, bed-making, food requests), which reviewers tie directly to resident dignity and wellbeing. The leadership team and community managers are portrayed as responsive and communicative, assisting with benefits, coordinating care transitions, and maintaining infection-control vigilance during public-health events.

Dining and activities are notable programmatic strengths. The dining program is described as chef-driven with three meals daily, room-service options, snacks, and the ability to tailor meals for dietary needs. Activities are broad and frequent — exercise and yoga classes, movie nights, board games, arts events, and regular offsite outings (concerts, nature trips, tram excursions, Pride events) — and are positioned as central to the facility’s social model of enabling residents to lead full, engaged lives.

Facility design and accessibility are mixed considerations. Many reviewers praise cleanliness, attractive courtyards, and private patios, but the residential units are frequently described as compact with limited closet/storage space. The compound’s garden-style layout means residents often move between buildings and outdoor walkways to access dining and common areas; reviewers noted this can create challenges in hot weather and raises mobility considerations. Specific accessibility gaps were called out, such as the absence of automatic doors in certain areas and constrained indoor communal space, which may affect residents who use walkers or wheelchairs.

Cost and fit are recurring trade-offs. The community’s boutique setting, attentive staffing model, and extensive programming correspond with a higher price point; several reviewers framed affordability and unit size as reasons it may not suit every family. A small number of comments referenced uneven experiences during initial intake or transition, suggesting that onboarding practices could be more consistent.

Overall patterns: Stonewall Gardens is consistently portrayed as a well-run, person-centered assisted living option with strong social programming and an intentionally inclusive culture, particularly for LGBTQ+ older adults. Prospective residents and families should weigh the community’s high-touch staffing, design aesthetic, and active lifestyle against the smaller private units, accessibility layout, and premium cost. For people seeking a social, design-forward assisted living experience near regional healthcare resources and who do not require large private apartments or maximal indoor circulation, Stonewall Gardens is frequently described as a strong fit.

There are 24 apartments in total, available as private or semiprivate options, and some have personal patios, so residents can choose the floor plan that fits best, whether they want a studio or a one-bedroom, and they can bring their own furnishings and decorations to feel more at home. The apartments come with extra-large bathrooms with roll-in showers, controls for heating and air conditioning, and all utilities are included in the rent, so things are simple, and the place is fully pet-friendly, so companions can come too.

The community puts special care into supporting the needs of LGBT seniors and offers a wide range of services including assisted living, memory care, nursing home care, and independent living, with nursing staff on-site and caregivers available all day and night, every day of the week. They focus a lot on individual health needs and well-being, holding regular health evaluations, having a pre-move-in consultation, and making a personal healthcare plan for each person, and they use a state-of-the-art emergency call system in every apartment and area, so help is always close by. The place has indoor and outdoor common areas for gathering, a cafe area with refreshments, a library, a game room, an in-house theater for movies and events, and a TV lounge. There's a BBQ area, fireside dining, and a garden full of flowers, making it a colorful and relaxing place to live. The dining experience focuses on restaurant-style meals three times a day, with menus reviewed by a registered dietitian, meals prepared by professional chefs, and both indoor and outdoor seating; they manage special diets like low sugar or low sodium, and snacks and fresh baked goods are always available. Residents can also order room service if they want to eat in their own place, and there's always free Wi-Fi and cable satellite TV for entertainment and keeping in touch.

Social activities fill the calendar, and staff organize things like yoga classes, art classes, movie nights, game nights, creative arts, holiday celebrations, and clubs, always encouraging friendships and independence. Outings into the community happen regularly too, often through partnerships with local businesses and restaurants, and the staff includes visiting clergy, such as a Rabbi or Chaplain, offering spiritual support for those interested. For those needing to get around town, there's scheduled transportation for medical appointments, shopping, and events, plus free on-site parking and access to nearby bus lines. The community is known for being inclusive, with a friendly and joyful staff who understand the needs of LGBT seniors, and Stonewall Gardens has earned awards for outstanding care and positive reviews, standing out as a trusted and beautifully maintained retirement home.
