    Homey, clean, attentive senior community

I moved my mom here and we've been very pleased. The staff are warm, responsive and professional, care is excellent with 24-hour nursing and hospice support on-site, and move-in was smooth. It feels homey and small - very clean, pet-friendly large apartments with patios/balconies, lovely gardens and riverside access, delicious meals and plenty of activities. I highly recommend this facility to families looking for attentive, safe, upbeat senior living.

    Summary of reviews

Oakdale Heights presents as a generally warm, family‑oriented assisted living community with consistent strengths in caregiving, cleanliness, and resident engagement. Reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive staff and long‑tenured clinical personnel, with 24‑hour nursing and on‑call medical support cited as reassurance for families. The culture is frequently described as home‑like and social; many residents are portrayed as happy and well integrated into community life.

Dining and programming are clear selling points. The community operates restaurant‑style dining with on‑site chefs and can accommodate dietary needs such as gluten‑free options. However, there is variability in perceptions of meal quality and menu variety; some reviewers praise the food as excellent while others describe it as merely passable and would like additional vegetable and healthy‑choice options. Activities are abundant and diverse — fitness classes, creative workshops, bingo, Bible study, cinema outings, wine & cheese events, woodworking, and regular scenic drives — supported by scheduled transportation for appointments and excursions.

Facility attributes balance modernized living with an older building footprint. Apartments are described as spacious, often with kitchenettes, storage, and outdoor balconies or patios; pet‑friendly units are available. On‑site amenities include a salon/barber shop, library, activity and craft rooms, and dedicated maintenance. Grounds and common areas are generally well maintained and bright, and the location benefits from proximity to parks, golf, riverside trails, and a nearby hospital. At the same time, reviewers note that parts of the building are dated and that renovations are ongoing, so prospective residents should verify the condition of specific units and common spaces.

Management and family communication show a mixed pattern. Many families describe proactive, responsive staff and good family communication, with staff who go above and beyond. Conversely, other families report significant concerns about administrative responsiveness and staff conduct, including serious interpersonal and communication issues. These descriptions suggest variability in the resident experience tied to particular interactions or shifts; prospective families should ask specific questions about incident reporting, family notification practices, and staff training when evaluating the community.

Clinical scope is appropriate for many assisted‑living needs but may be limited for progressive cognitive decline or very high acuity care. Multiple notes emphasize that Oakdale Heights is not primarily a memory‑care facility and that specialized dementia programming or intensive clinical services may require transfer to a dedicated memory‑care setting. Overall, Oakdale Heights scores highly for social engagement, cleanliness, and supportive day‑to‑day care; however, prospective residents and families should verify administrative responsiveness, meal planning and nutrition offerings, the status of ongoing renovations, and the facility’s specific capabilities for higher‑acuity or memory‑care needs during a visit.

    About Oakdale Heights Assisted Living

Oakdale Heights Assisted Living sits in a quiet residential part of Redding, California, and has provided care to seniors for over twenty years, and this place has a calm, homey atmosphere with beautiful gardens, a large rose garden, a big elegant living room with a rock fireplace, cozy furniture, and a big screen TV, and you can watch the birds from a studio with two windows. Residents live in studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments, each with kitchenettes, private bathrooms, cable TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, telephones, and individual climate control, and all rooms are handicap accessible. The community supports both men and women and allows pets, plus it accepts waitlist applications but usually has openings soon.

The staff provides support around the clock, with trained caregivers and a nursing team handling help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and medication, plus residents get weekly housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning. There's a 24-hour care and supervision system with emergency alert systems in place for everyone's safety, and for those who need extra support after surgery or when caregivers need a break, the facility offers respite care that can last from a few days to longer periods. Assisted living services are resident-centered, aiming to maintain independence but help with anything folks need, and they also have hospice care to make sure people live with comfort and dignity in their later days, offering support for physical and emotional needs with the help of the nursing team and hospice partners.

The amenities bring comfort, too, with restaurant-style dining that serves chef-inspired meals and special diets for diabetes or allergies, and there's a full schedule of activities every day-fitness programs, movie nights, music, a library, a game room, community-led events, and resident-run activities, all to encourage friendships and community bonds. The place has a garden, walking paths, outdoor areas, a salon, a fitness room, a business room, and common areas for socializing and visiting with friends and family. Staff helps schedule transportation or residents can use community vehicles to get where they need to go. This community is coed, handicap accessible, and run by Lenity Management, and it makes a point to welcome everyone into a friendly, safe, and supportive place. The community scores high on Seniorly's rating system with a 4.8, and many families appreciate the compassionate care and experienced staff. Oakdale Heights helps seniors and their families by offering a broad range of care choices and making sure residents can enjoy a vibrant lifestyle while getting the support they need.
