    Caring family-owned memory care home

I'm very pleased with this family-owned assisted living and memory care home near Redwood City. The compassionate, professional staff know residents by name, keep communication open, and provide attentive, personalized care - my mother is engaged with higher-functioning peers and stays active. The facility feels warm and homey, is clean and well-maintained, and has a fabulous backyard, huge garden with fruit trees and chickens, lots of indoor/outdoor activities, and great three-course meals with dietary accommodations. Overall a caring, well-staffed place that kept our family informed and comfortable.

    Summary of reviews

Gordon Manor is described consistently as a family-owned, community-focused assisted living with an adjacent memory-care program. Reviewers emphasize a warm, home-like atmosphere and strong caregiving practices: staff are portrayed as compassionate, respectful, and familiar with residents by name. Staffing levels are characterized as robust, and many notes highlight attentive personal care (including grooming, dressing assistance, and frequent toileting/incontinence checks), suggesting hands-on daily support for residents with varying needs.

Dining is a clear strength. The facility offers three-course meals with careful presentation, snacks between meals, and explicit dietary accommodations for low-salt, gluten-free, and allergy-sensitive needs. Meals are sometimes prepared to support residents’ feeding independence, and families describe good communication about menu options and visible dining cleanliness. The combination of appealing presentation and responsiveness to dietary requirements contributes to overall satisfaction with food service.

Activity programming and outdoor amenities are another prominent positive. Gordon Manor maintains an active, inclusive schedule—bingo, music, arts and crafts and other social offerings—with a large activities board and multiple spaces for engagement. The property features extensive outdoor areas, gardens, fruit trees and a chicken coop; these elements are repeatedly noted as enhancing resident quality of life and offering meaningful outdoor access. The facility’s pet-friendly stance and on-site produce are additional lifestyle benefits.

Facility and operational limitations are also evident. The building’s exterior and some interior finishes are described as basic or dated, and resident rooms are frequently characterized as small. A few comments raise questions about the suitability of certain spaces for advanced dementia needs, indicating that the physical environment or room configurations may not meet every memory-care requirement. While activities are substantial, scheduling appears staggered at times, which can limit simultaneous participation for residents with differing energy or mobility levels. Several families also noted that administrative staff are not highly visible on resident floors, which some interpreted as limited day-to-day leadership presence.

Overall, Gordon Manor presents as a well-staffed, community-oriented facility with strong interpersonal care, appealing dining, and distinguished outdoor amenities. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s personable care model and active programming against the physical constraints of smaller rooms and a dated exterior, and consider touring memory-care spaces to assess environmental fit for specific cognitive needs. Communication with management about activity schedules and administrative accessibility can help set expectations before move-in.
