    Caring professional dementia care home

I placed my mother here and we've been so grateful for the caring, professional staff - the owner (Pat, who gave us a helpful tour), Annabelle and the caregivers provide timely health updates, consistent administration and attentive dementia care. The house feels warm and homey, bright and clean with a new wheelchair-accessible bathroom, homemade tasty meals (they even do custom hamburgers), personal accommodations and plenty of TLC.

    Summary of reviews

Kimberly's Elder Kare Kottage is described primarily as a small, home-style board-and-care that provides close, individualized attention. Families and visitors frequently emphasize the caring, hands-on nature of the caregiving team, noting consistent, attentive assistance and frequent, timely communication about health status. The facility's scale and ownership involvement create an intimate environment that many reviewers find warm, inclusive, and well maintained.

Clinical and daily-care strengths center on direct caregiving and family communication. Reviewers highlight professional, responsive staff who accommodate personal preferences (including custom meal requests) and provide frequent health updates. Several accounts describe staff as reliable and compassionate, and some families describe effective support for residents with dementia or high assistance needs, including constant help from caregivers when required.

Dining and activities reflect the home's small-house model. Meals are described as homemade and accommodating, with positive remarks about taste and customization. Activity offerings, however, appear limited; the setting favors a quieter, intimate routine over a broad program of recreational or therapeutic activities. Prospective residents who want an arts- and programming-rich environment may find the activity menu constrained compared with larger facilities.

The physical plant is characterized as an older but well-kept house with recent accessibility improvements. Reviewers note bright, clean rooms with handrails and a newly installed wheelchair-accessible bathroom, signaling attention to modest capital upgrades and resident mobility needs.

There are notable management and operational concerns that prospective families should weigh. While some reviewers praise consistent administration and a strong sense of ownership, other accounts raise serious issues about management transparency, financial controls, and dispute resolution; there are even allegations of financial and legal disputes from a small number of reviewers. These comments suggest potential variability in administrative reliability and the need for clear documentation around powers of attorney, billing, and financial authorizations.

Safety and vetting are additional areas to verify during the selection process. A few reviewers advised background checks and expressed safety-related worries; combined with the management-related concerns, this points to the importance of confirming staff vetting practices, infection- and safety-protocol procedures, and how the facility documents and resolves family complaints.

Bottom line: Kimberly's Elder Kare Kottage offers a caring, home-like alternative to larger assisted-living centers, with strong hands-on caregiving, good family communication, and homemade meals. However, prospective residents and family decision-makers should perform careful due diligence on administrative practices, financial authorizations, and clinical suitability for higher-acuity needs before committing, and should discuss activity expectations up front if program variety is important.

    About Kimberly's Elder Kare Kottage

Kimberly's Elder Kare Kottage sits in a quiet San Jose neighborhood on Moorpark Avenue, and it's a small care home with room for only six residents, so people get a lot of personal attention and help there. Folks can choose from many types of care like Independent Living, Assisted Living, Board and Care Home, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Respite or Hospice care, and the staff's always there to help with things like bathing, dressing, walking, reminders for medicine, transfers, and all kinds of daily needs, even in the middle of the night if needed. The team includes trained caregivers, nurses, and specialists for wound care, occupational therapy, podiatry, and medication support. Kimberly's Elder Kare Kottage works with outside doctors and keeps up with medical visits, errands, and therapy, too.

Each person lives in a fully furnished room with safety features, and families can pick a private or semi-private option. There's cable or satellite TV, Wi-Fi, phone access, and staff do housekeeping, laundry, and meals. Residents have easy access to communal spaces like the dining room, garden, a game and activity room, fitness center, reading room, salon or barbershop, and sometimes a sauna or hot tub, depending on what's running at the time. There are scheduled activities each day-like arts and crafts, education programs, games, movie nights, shopping trips, music therapy, and exercise classes-plus social nights and relaxing time outdoors. For those who enjoy animals, there's pet therapy, and there are faith-based outings and plenty of community gatherings.

Kitchen staff cook home-style meals, able to adjust for special diets, including for diabetes or low salt and low fat needs, and everyone gets three meals each day, though sometimes there are one or two, depending on the plan chosen. With services like meal prep, bathing help, toileting, grooming, and easy support for walkers or getting around, people don't have to worry about chores or safety, and all rooms have features for wheelchairs if needed. For people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, there are individualized care plans, a secure memory care area, exit alarms, and staff trained specifically for memory support. Staff continue to learn about care techniques and go through interviews, with a 3-to-1 resident-to-staff ratio, which keeps care hands-on and quick when residents need help.

Kimberly's Elder Kare Kottage supports people who need different kinds of care over time, so folks can move from more independent rooms to more help as their needs change, and they don't have to move away unless they want to. They help arrange transportation for medical appointments, errands, shopping, and sometimes to religious events, and they also provide newspapers, magazines, haircuts, and laundry. Residents enjoy a cozy, home-like setting with a calm atmosphere, simple routines, and time to spend in the sunshine or garden if they choose, and spaces feel a lot like a bed-and-breakfast rather than a big facility. Families say the environment brings peace of mind with help always at hand, and both safety and comfort are a clear focus, from the sprinkler system to the easy layout and active programs. Most of all, people living here get support to live each day in comfort, safety, and dignity, with staff looking out for both health and personal needs.
