    Friendly caring staff, clean facility

I stayed here for rehab and had a very positive experience. The staff were outstanding and genuinely caring-they encouraged PT, worked with my family, and often went above and beyond. The facility is very clean with pleasant grounds, a courtyard and hair salon; activities like bingo, Bible studies and crafts kept me social and I made many friends. Meals were acceptable and ice cream was a nice touch-overall a comfortable, friendly place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Reviews present a mixed picture of Knolls West Residential Care. Several families describe positive short-term rehabilitation stays, engaged therapy staff, pleasant outdoor spaces and a meaningful activities program. At the same time, a subset of accounts raise significant operational concerns related to clinical oversight, responsiveness, cleanliness and administrative communication. The result is a facility where experiences appear to vary substantially depending on staffing, shift timing and the level of family involvement.

Care quality and clinical practices Positive experiences focus primarily on skilled rehab services: therapy staff who encourage progress and a Medicare-covered rehab pathway. However, a number of accounts describe important clinical gaps. These include long response times to care requests, inconsistent monitoring of clinical devices and vital needs, and failures in protocols intended to prevent skin breakdown and other complications. Several families said they needed to be present or closely involved to ensure adequate daily care. Taken together, the pattern suggests variability in clinical oversight and incident-response consistency that prospective residents and families should evaluate closely.

Staffing, conduct and communication Staff assessments are polarized. Many reviewers praise individual nurses, aides and therapists as caring and helpful; others describe instances of impatience, inattentiveness, and uneven competency across shifts—especially overnight. Call-bell response delays and slow follow-up are recurrent themes. Communication from frontline staff and administration is also inconsistent: some families received timely updates and partnership, while others experienced poor return communication, billing difficulties and perceived unresponsiveness from management. There are also isolated but serious allegations concerning missing personal documents and theft that warrant verification during a tour and background checks.

Dining and activities The facility offers a range of activities (bingo, crafts, Bible study, outings, and on-site social events) and amenities such as a hair salon and courtyard that support social engagement. Meal quality is described variably: some families enjoyed the food historically, while others find current meals to be passable or substandard and note a tray-service model that may reduce meal continuity and choice for some residents.

Facilities and maintenance Many reviewers compliment the grounds, lobby and some clean rooms. Contrasting comments point to maintenance issues in parts of the building—worn carpeting, visible wall repairs, and dated or dark common areas. Sanitation and odor concerns are noted for particular units or times, indicating inconsistent housekeeping standards across the property.

Management and notable patterns Themes that appear across reviews include variability by shift and unit, the need for family advocacy to secure consistent care, and occasional serious safety or documentation concerns. Management responsiveness is uneven in reviewers' experience: some families report helpful administrators, others report dismissive responses. These mixed accounts suggest that operational reliability may depend heavily on current leadership, staffing levels and oversight practices.

Guidance for prospective families For those considering Knolls West, the facility may be a reasonable choice for short-term, therapy-focused stays when Medicare covers services and when family members can monitor care. For longer-term placements, families should evaluate clinical protocols and staffing stability before moving forward. Specific questions to ask on a tour include typical call-bell response times, pressure-area prevention and turning protocols, staffing ratios by shift, incident reporting procedures, housekeeping schedules, theft-reporting processes, and how administration communicates about clinical changes. An on-site visit during multiple shifts and conversations with current families can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s needs.

    About Knolls West Residential Care

Knolls West Residential Care, also called Knolls West Post Acute, sits at 16890 Green Tree Blvd in Victorville, CA, and offers both residential care and adult daycare services for adults who need help with daily living or more complex medical needs, and you can see they focus on treating a full range of conditions, since there's 24-hour skilled nursing care from licensed nurses, along with supervision and a bedside emergency call system that always has a nurse on duty, which adds a sense of safety for residents and their families, and because the staff there is known for being friendly and kind, residents can expect help from someone who tries to build rapport and understand exactly what each person needs, and they take it one step further by making sure each resident gets a personalized care plan that can change when needs do.

Meals at Knolls West get special attention because they're recognized for their quality and nutrition, with awards for best meals and dining, and all food is prepared with good ingredients, and those who need help with diabetic or incontinence care, or even non-ambulatory care, find staff are trained to support these conditions, and there's medication management so people won't miss important doses. They've built a culture that encourages everyone to join in activities, and there are programs for social, physical, mental, and emotional engagement-many of these activities have earned them awards too, which is nice even if awards aren't everything, and they offer therapy, including physical therapy for those who can't get out of bed, so there's always a push to keep minds and bodies active when possible.

There are assisted living services for seniors, rehabilitation services aimed at restoring health, and staff on site at all hours to help with bathing, dressing, or anything else needed during the day or night, and the adult daycare center means those who aren't staying overnight can still join for daytime support and activities. The environment feels supportive and caring because the team tries to see each person as an individual, looking out for both well-being and independence, and that's pretty important for people dealing with illness or needing extra help as they get older.
