    Warm, professional, caring and homelike

I moved my sister into this newly remodeled senior community and I'm very pleased. The staff are warm, professional and go above and beyond - nurses and an in-house physician are available 24/7, management communicates proactively, and caregivers are genuinely caring. Rooms are clean, spacious and accessible, the food (especially breakfast) is varied and restaurant-quality from an in-house chef, and there are plentiful activities, salon services, beautiful common areas and a lovely mountain setting. Modern, well-maintained and great value - it truly feels like home.

    Summary of reviews

Elk Run presents as a community with many strengths for seniors needing assisted living or moderate medical oversight. Families and visitors commonly highlight the compassionate, hands-on attitude of caregiving staff, the presence of 24-hour nursing and an on-site physician, and established hospice collaboration. The community offers an in-house chef and personalized meal planning, an active calendar of activities (yoga, puzzles, trips and performances), on-site amenities such as a salon and activity rooms, and generally clean, recently remodeled common areas that give a modern, well-maintained impression.

Clinical care is a strong selling point for many: professional nursing guidance, hospice availability, and coordinated dietary accommodations are repeatedly praised. At the same time, several families described operational challenges that affect care continuity. High staff turnover and intermittent short-staffing have been linked to inconsistencies in daily assistance and resident interaction. In at least one instance families experienced difficulties with the facility’s handling of a hospital transfer and subsequent readmission coordination; this pattern is best summarized as gaps in clinical-incident response and family communication that prospective families should clarify up front.

Dining and programming are overall viewed positively. The in-house chef and varied menu options receive frequent compliments, including tailored meals for health needs and notable breakfasts. A minority of comments characterize some meals as processed or less prioritized, so meal experience can vary by shift or dining period. Activities and social opportunities are plentiful, contributing to a home-like, engaged community atmosphere for residents who are mobile and socially active.

Facility condition and accessibility are mixed depending on the wing. Many describe remodeled, bright, and spacious studios with private baths, easy accessibility, and pleasant outdoor views. However, other areas are characterized as older, darker, and smaller; prospective residents should inspect specific units for light, layout, and storage. Maintenance responsiveness and cleanliness are generally praised in updated areas, reinforcing the community’s overall upkeep where renovations have occurred.

Management impressions are two-sided. Recent ownership/administrative changes and a proactive executive director have led to visible improvement and positive family communication for many residents. Conversely, there are accounts of inconsistent administrative tone and a director-level demeanor that some families found dismissive. Placement policies and admission practices—particularly around proximity and payer type—were also noted as influencing placement decisions.

Bottom line: Elk Run is likely to suit individuals who need regular nursing oversight, personalized dining, and an active social environment in a generally well-maintained setting. Families evaluating the community should: confirm current staffing ratios and turnover trends, review the facility’s protocols for hospital transfers and readmission, tour both renovated and older units to assess lighting and layout, and discuss administrative expectations and placement criteria before committing. These steps will help determine whether Elk Run’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s clinical needs and lifestyle preferences.
