    Small homey community, caring staff

I'm very pleased with this small, homey senior living community - the staff genuinely care for each other and residents, the supervisor is considerate and cooperative, and they'll make any situation work. Residents seem happy, lunches are good, health is monitored proactively, and I'd recommend it to both workers and potential residents looking for a welcoming small-town atmosphere.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed picture of the facility, with clear strengths in the interpersonal aspects of care but repeated operational weaknesses. Many reviewers described a small, home-like environment and direct-care staff who are caring, attentive, and willing to make accommodations. Several comments highlight a supportive supervisor, good staff camaraderie, proactive health monitoring, and positive links to the surrounding small-town community. These positives suggest the facility can provide a warm, individualized setting for some residents.

At the same time, the reviews raise persistent concerns about core operational practices. Dining is described as inconsistent: while some residents receive satisfactory meals, others experience poor meal quality and missed or late service. Housekeeping and general sanitation are reported as uneven, and there are explicit pest-control concerns. Several reviewers described the physical environment as dated, with worn furniture and poor lighting, which contributes to a dim or heavy ambiance in communal spaces.

Clinical and safety-related issues are prominent in the feedback. Reviewers expressed worries about medication management, including allegations that medications have gone missing and more generally weak controls around administration and tracking. Infection-control practices, including COVID precautions, are described as inconsistent. There are also repeated concerns about emergency responsiveness and on-shift attentiveness, including instances where staff did not respond promptly; these point to gaps in supervision, staffing reliability, or shift practices. Reviewers additionally noted insufficient security measures such as lack of surveillance in areas where families expected them.

Communication and management practices are another area of tension. Multiple comments describe unprofessional or brusque communication from owners and some staff, problematic interactions with families, and inconsistent follow-through on promises. Reviewers also raised concerns about employee relations and staff morale, which can affect continuity and quality of care. Conversely, others praised individual caregivers and supervisors for their consideration and helpfulness, indicating variability in performance depending on personnel and shift.

Activities programming appears limited or irregular; reviewers indicated that planned activities are often not held, reducing opportunities for engagement. Overall, the pattern in reviews suggests the facility’s strengths lie in its small-scale, personal care culture and some committed staff, while operational weaknesses—particularly in medication control, housekeeping, dining consistency, infection control, emergency responsiveness, facility upkeep, security, and management communication—warrant careful inquiry by prospective residents and families. When evaluating this facility, families should ask for documentation of medication-management procedures, staffing levels and supervision practices, cleaning schedules and pest-control measures, activity calendars, and specific examples of how management handles complaints and emergencies.

    About Florence Care Home

Florence Care Home sits at 1230 W 3rd St in Florence, Colorado and offers assisted living care for up to ten older adults, and with just ten residents, everyone gets a quiet, family-like setting where caregivers get to know them well, so no one really feels lost or overlooked, and with private rooms-some even with their own bathrooms-and cozy common areas, the place feels more like a home than anything huge or fancy. There's a strong focus on daily routines that give residents structure and comfort, and they're encouraged to keep doing things they enjoy, make choices about their clothes and bedtime, and share meals together with home-cooked food, planned so everyone eats well, no matter their diet. The staff helps with bathing, dressing, getting around, medication, and just about any kind of daily need, and if someone's in a wheelchair or can't move around so well, the building's easy to get through, there's even a walk-in tub, and each room is wheelchair accessible, so folks don't have to worry about stairs or tight spaces. The whole place is meant for older adults, including folks who are blind or have disabilities, and with help always available-day or night-residents and families get a sense of security, knowing someone's nearby when needed. Housekeeping, laundry, emergency alert systems, and meal services are handled for everyone, and there are regular activities and outings, plus walking paths, transportation, gardens, and even movie nights, so there's something to look forward to most days. Everyone can talk with staff or the administrator anytime because good communication's a big deal here, and families always know what's going on. It's a board and care home at heart, with attention to every resident's daily wellness and needs, and even though it's not a big place with every amenity under the sun, Florence Care Home tries to keep life simple, comfortable, safe, and respectful, with staff who treat everyone with care and kindness, making it a steady, welcoming spot for seniors who need a bit more help.
