    Very positive knee replacement rehab

I stayed nearly two weeks for knee-replacement rehab and had a very positive experience. The staff (Helga, JoJo and the therapy team) were attentive and caring, therapy (PT/OT/SLP) got me stronger quickly, the facility was clean and homey, daily activities were enjoyable and meals were good - I would recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

The aggregated reviews for Aviata at Lake Mary present a highly mixed picture. Strengths are concentrated in rehabilitative services, activities, and a number of committed frontline caregivers: many families and residents identify the physical and occupational therapy teams as a major asset, and activity staff, spa/salon offerings and the courtyard are frequently praised. Several reviewers also highlight helpful social-services staff and reception personnel, clean common spaces, and tangible recovery outcomes for patients who achieved therapy goals.

Clinical-care concerns appear repeatedly alongside those positives. Reviews describe inconsistent nursing coverage across shifts, delayed responses to assistance requests, and weaknesses in medication administration and documentation. There are recurrent accounts of inconsistent wound-care and incontinence-care practices, variable bathing/grooming frequency, and gaps in safety monitoring and transfer practices. A small but significant subset of reviews raise serious clinical concerns, including infection-control shortcomings and consequences that prompted external involvement; these are described here as concerns following serious clinical incidents rather than as judged determinations.

Staff-level impressions are polarized. Numerous reports praise individual CNAs, therapists and some nurses for compassion, continuity, and effective hands-on care. At the same time, reviewers describe variability in staff conduct and responsiveness—particularly on nights and weekends—and occasional reliance on agency personnel. Communication tone and responsiveness are uneven: families report difficulty reaching staff by phone, voicemail issues, and inconsistent updates about clinical status or transfers.

Dining and hospitality are also inconsistent. Some residents describe appetizing, well-prepared meals and attentive dining service; others cite cold meal delivery, limited menu variety (including diabetic-meal management issues), and substitution handling problems. Housekeeping and environmental concerns differ by area: while many common areas and the courtyard are described as clean and pleasant, other reviews note sanitation and pest-control concerns in certain rooms or bathrooms and spotty laundry/linen handling.

Management and administrative patterns emerge as additional areas of concern. Reviewers note variable follow-through when issues are raised, delays in addressing complaints, and occasional disputes concerning contracts, billing or admission processes. Documentation inconsistencies and questions about clinical oversight and physician presence are also themes that affect family trust.

For prospective residents and families: observe daily staffing levels and coverage on the shifts that matter to your loved one (including nights/weekends), ask for details about medication-administration checks and wound/incontinence-care protocols, review how infection-control and roommate-placement decisions are made, and clarify billing and contract terms up front. Also consider confirming therapy staffing ratios and observing an activity session to assess how the facility’s rehabilitative strengths align with your expectations. The facility shows clear strengths in therapy and engagement but also displays recurring operational weaknesses that merit direct inquiry before placement.
