    Caring staff, excellent short-term rehab

I was very pleased with the care - staff were caring, professional, and knew my mom by name, and the therapy team (especially PT) helped her regain strength quickly. The facility was spotless and comfortable, rooms were private and accessible, meals reasonable, and our family felt reassured and would recommend it for short-term rehab.

    Summary of reviews

Tampa Lakes Health and Rehabilitation Center presents a contrast between a modern, wellโ€‘appointed physical environment and recurring operational concerns. The facility is consistently described as clean, bright, and newly designed, with a large, wellโ€‘equipped therapy gym and pleasant common areas. Many families and patients praised the admissions experience, private rooms, responsive frontโ€‘desk staff, and visible investment in the rehabilitation program.

Rehabilitation services are the facility's strongest and most consistent feature. Reviewers commonly report effective, motivating physical, occupational, and speech therapy with experienced clinicians and frequent progress updates. Several accounts describe rapid functional gains, including shortโ€‘term patients who regained mobility and left for home earlier than expected. Therapy scheduling, equipment, and clinician rapport receive repeated positive mention.

Direct nursing and aide care descriptions are mixed. Numerous reviewers highlight compassionate, respectful CNAs and nurses who provided attentive care, timely communication, and good handsโ€‘on support. At the same time, a substantial number of reviews describe inconsistent staffing levels, delayed responses to assistance requests or call lights, variability in bathing and hygiene schedules, and uneven woundโ€‘care or infectionโ€‘control followโ€‘through. These patterns suggest that patient experience depends considerably on shift staffing and which caregivers are on duty.

Clinical practice and safety concerns appear as recurring themes. Reviewers cited gaps in medication administration and documentation, episodic lapses in woundโ€‘care continuity, and coordination failures between nursing and therapy teams. A few reviews describe serious individual incidents and privacy or conduct issues; these are best treated as isolated but important allegations that warrant followโ€‘up and verification through regulatory channels. Where continuity of clinical care was maintained, families tended to express high confidence in the facility's clinical teams.

Dining and daily living receive mixed feedback. The dining area and communal meals are appreciated by some for socialization, but others note inconsistent food temperature, uneven meal quality, and limited choices. Housekeeping and general cleanliness are strengths in most accounts, though a number of reviews raise concerns about laundry, towel availability, and sporadic supply issues.

Activities and longโ€‘term engagement are another area of variability. The facility runs noticeable seasonal and family events that many families enjoyed, yet several reviewers felt weekday activities and meaningful recreation for longโ€‘term residents were limited. Communication with families also shows variability: while some families praise timely updates, others report difficulty reaching nursing leadership or getting coordinated information between therapy, nursing, and administration.

Management and staffing dynamics are mixed. Admissions and some administrative staff are frequently described as professional and helpful, but reviewers also raise concerns about turnover, the use of agency staff, perceived prioritization of privateโ€‘pay admissions, and occasional disputes involving supervisory staff. Several reviewers advised asking about staffing ratios, woundโ€‘care protocols, and discharge planning details prior to placement.

Overall, Tampa Lakes appears well suited for shortโ€‘term, intensive rehabilitation when therapy is the primary need: the facilityโ€™s equipment, therapist skill, and environment support recovery. Families considering longer stays should weigh the facilityโ€™s strengths in therapy and physical environment against repeated concerns about staffing consistency, response times, infectionโ€‘control continuity, and communication. Prospective residents and families would benefit from inโ€‘person observation of routines, direct questions about nurseโ€‘toโ€‘resident ratios and woundโ€‘care processes, and clear written plans for discharge, followโ€‘up, and family communication before placement.

About Tampa Lakes Health and Rehabilitation Center

Tampa Lakes Health and Rehabilitation Center sits near Tampa and has 179 beds with an average of 169 residents a day, so there's usually plenty of company for those who like to be around others, and the facility has a neighborhood style design that helps it feel a bit more like home, with indoor lounges, spacious dining areas, several exterior courtyards for fresh air, and a putting green outside for folks who like an easy game in the sun, plus residents often go on off-site excursions so they're not always cooped up indoors, which is nice. The center is a for-profit limited liability company tied to Summitt Care II, Inc., and operates with both short- and long-term residential skilled nursing services, so people can get help whether they need a little or a lot of care. The place has a few big draws, like a 3,000-square-foot therapy gym full of current equipment, private treatment rooms, and certified therapists who provide specialized physical, occupational, and speech therapies, with special programs like "Pathway to Home" to assist folks in getting back into the community and a "Standardized Rehab Outcomes" setup that measures progress, both of which are meant to help people get better and regain as much function as possible. Residents needing memory care services can also get help here, and the facility says they're focused on giving person-centered care with specialized programs tailored to fit specific needs, offering a home-away-from-home kind of setting that tries to make everyone comfortable. There are private rooms available if privacy is important, and common areas like lounges, cable TV rooms, and outdoor courtyards add to daily life, while the building is fully wheelchair accessible, offers onsite restrooms and plenty of parking, and even accepts credit cards for convenience. While the facility provides skilled nursing and rehab with infection control practices, recent inspection reports show the center has 19 deficiencies, including concerns about nutrition-like not always getting food from approved sources and not always handling food right-and some gaps with resident assessment and care planning, such as not completing required PASARR screenings for mental disorders or intellectual disabilities when needed, so those thinking about moving in might want to pay attention to those reports. The nurse turnover rate is also pretty high at 63.5%, compared to the state's 43.6%, and nurse hours per resident per day slide in just under the state average at 3.80, which may be worth considering for people who want consistent, familiar staff. The place offers a privacy policy, a contact form for scheduling tours, and helps residents and families get answers to questions or find out about private rooms, and there's always a range of amenities and services for different needs, with a focus on helping people reach and keep their highest level of independence.
