    Warm, professional care and environment

I toured and chose this community for my mom and I'm very pleased. Executive Director Milton and the staff are warm, professional, and went out of their way to help - nurses attentive and leadership clearly experienced. The facility is beautiful, exceptionally clean, with large common areas, well-tended gardens and tons of activities; management provides great guidance and mentorship. Move-in was smooth, affordable for the value, and my mom settled in well - I'd happily recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Colonial at Miami elicits a mixed set of impressions. Many families praise the facility’s personable leadership, notably a warm executive director, and describe attentive, helpful caregiving staff who provide supportive move-in guidance. The community is frequently noted for its attractive location, well-maintained interior, large common areas and a spacious great room. Outdoor spaces such as the garden and courtyard are well tended, and the program of activities is described as active and varied. Several families highlighted the facility’s emphasis on cleanliness and cited economical pricing or good value options for certain accommodations.

Care quality appears uneven. A number of accounts describe constructive, settling experiences in which residents acclimated well and staff demonstrated professionalism and kindness. At the same time, there are serious operational concerns in clinical and everyday personal-care areas: inconsistent personal-care routines, delays in attending to residents’ toileting or hygiene needs, and questions about skin and injury monitoring. There are also concerns about clinical transfer and referral practices, including family objections to some hospital transfers and one cited claim involving psychiatric referral; these raise issues around documentation and transparent clinical justification.

Communication and management are polarizing aspects. While leadership presence and individual staff members receive positive mention, other families describe unresponsiveness from management, inconsistent oversight of staff, and missed or late scheduled communications. Financial transparency is another recurring theme: families expressed confusion about billing, including charges connected to non-urgent transports or services, suggesting a need for clearer explanation of fee structures and consent processes at admission and during care transitions.

Facilities and amenities present a mix of strengths and limitations. Common areas and high-traffic spaces are generally described as attractive and clean, and landscaping is well maintained. However, some areas or units are perceived as smaller, darker, or dated, producing uneven ambience across the campus. Memory-care services are limited or not available on site, which is an important operational limitation for prospective residents with progressive cognitive needs.

Dining-specific feedback is limited in these summaries; the available comments emphasize overall value rather than detailed assessments of menu variety or meal quality. Activities and social programming are a clear positive for many families, contributing to a family-style atmosphere that some residents and families find appealing.

Overall, Colonial at Miami may be a good fit for families prioritizing location, cleanliness, friendly staff, and active programming at reasonable cost. Prospective residents and families should balance those strengths against operational issues raised here: ensure clarity on the scope of personal-care services, obtain detailed written explanations of billing and transfer/referral policies, verify availability of memory-care if needed, and seek a candid discussion with management about communication and oversight practices before admission.

Colonial Assisted Living at Miami sits at 1864 NW 175th St in the Parkview neighborhood of Miami Gardens, and is a family-owned and operated community with a homelike setting and a genuine village atmosphere, nestled among flowers and greenery with nature views and a lush lawn right from the windows, and these grounds really help residents feel at ease, as does the single-story coastal-style building that's both spacious and pleasantly decorated with comfort and style in mind. This facility has a licensed capacity for 65 residents and holds License #: 8744 from the state of Florida, with a community score of 8.9 according to Seniorly and status as a verified community, so you'll find a blend of both assisted living and memory care offered, plus short-term respite care, independent living, and care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia in dedicated communities that give round-the-clock supervision, especially with knowledge that safety and comfort always come first here. The staff, led by founder Ricki Kaneti who's well-versed in senior living, focuses on kindness, respect, and dignity, and you can tell there's a family-like feeling as they encourage seniors to socialize, join in age-appropriate games or arts and crafts, listen to piano, or spend some time in the library and game room, and plenty of outings and garden walks round out the day, along with activities that truly help residents be engaged-not just with each other, but with the world around them. For those needing memory care, there's extra attention for Alzheimer's needs, including incontinence care, personalized routines, and activities tailored for memory support, while the whole property's got features like a 24-hour call system, secure supervision, and a trained team standing by, all of which help keep folks safe and families at ease. The design helps promote relaxation, with outdoor walking paths, quiet gardens, and communal spaces that make it easy to live a leisurely lifestyle, and the Miami Gardens location puts pharmacies, coffee shops like Starbucks, and restaurants such as Serafina just nearby, so residents and families can enjoy visits and outings close by.
