I chose this smaller, home-like facility for my mom and was very grateful for the compassionate, hands-on staff - Lisa explained everything and Latoya was especially good to her. The director and CEO are involved, staff advocate with providers, facilitate regular visits, and create a loving, family-style atmosphere with clean rooms, daily activities, family meals, and a lovely screened outdoor area. I felt comfortable and supported; it truly became a home away from home.

Summary of reviews
Overall impression
The reviews indicate that The Sarah House - Tomoka presents as a small, home-like residential option with a strong emphasis on personalized, compassionate care. Families repeatedly describe a warm, family-style atmosphere and staff who provide emotional support, dignity, and regular contact between residents and relatives. Several observations point to a facility that prioritizes one-on-one attention and comfort rather than a large institutional model.
Care quality and staff
Care is characterized by hands-on, attentive staff and visible leadership involvement; reviewers mentioned a director and CEO who are active in the day-to-day environment. Many families reported that staff advocate on behalf of residents with outside healthcare providers, and that caregivers provide reassuring, empathetic interactions. The dominant pattern is of staff who are approachable, accommodating, and able to create a sense of home. At the same time, there are isolated concerns about staff conduct: a complaint about a specific individual’s demeanor was raised, suggesting some variability in interpersonal communication. Prospective families may wish to observe staff–family interactions during a tour and ask about staff training, supervision, and complaint-resolution processes.
Dining and activities
Dining is described as family-style and social, contributing to the home-like environment. Reviewers noted communal meals and an emphasis on shared, social dining. Activity programming appears consistent and social — daily activities and opportunities for engagement were frequently mentioned as part of residents’ routine, supporting quality-of-life goals rather than clinical rehabilitation programs.
Facilities and environment
The facility is described as clean, comfortable, and scaled to a smaller residence. A large screened-in outdoor area provides space for safe outdoor time, and the overall aesthetic is reported as homelike rather than institutional. The small size contributes to more individualized attention but can also imply limited on-site specialty services or capacity constraints compared with larger communities.
Management and notable patterns
Management presence is a clear strength: families cited visible leadership and a hands-on approach from administrators. That visibility appears to reinforce the facility’s culture of personalized care. The most notable negative pattern is not systemic across reviews but is an isolated allegation of disrespectful behavior by a staff member; this suggests some variability in professionalism rather than a pervasive cultural problem. Given the facility’s small scale, that kind of interpersonal issue can stand out to families.
What to ask on a visit
When evaluating The Sarah House - Tomoka in person, consider observing mealtime, spending time in common areas, and meeting both caregiving staff and leadership. Ask about staffing ratios, staff training and turnover, formal processes for addressing family concerns, and what specialized services (if any) are available off-site or through partners. Confirm visitation policies and how virtual visits are facilitated, since family contact is a noted strength.
Summary assessment
For families seeking a small, home-like environment with attentive, advocacy-oriented staff and social dining and activities, The Sarah House - Tomoka appears to offer consistent strengths. Prospective residents should weigh those strengths against the potential limitations of a smaller residence and clarify how the community manages staff conduct and specialized clinical needs.

About The Sarah House - Tomoka
The Sarah House - Tomoka sits in the Ormond Beach area and offers different levels of senior care, including assisted living, memory care, nursing homes, independent living, in-home care, and continuing care retirement community services, which means people can find the type of support they need as their needs change, and they have a licensed capacity of 24 residents at Sarah House at Old Tomoka Road, which keeps the place cozy and easy for residents to know one another. The staff at Sarah House focus on providing both assisted living and specialized memory care, especially for people living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, and caregivers are around 24 hours a day to help with emergencies, provide help with bathing, dressing, medication, insulin monitoring, moving from bed to wheelchair, and making sure everyone's staying safe, fed, and looked after.
Residents get furnished private or semi-private rooms with telephones, and they can spend time in comfortable indoor common areas, do arts and crafts, watch movies, join activities that help keep their minds and bodies active, or spend time in lush gardens and walk the outdoor paths, while the whole place tries to feel homelike and welcoming, focusing on personal dignity and independence with the "Sarah House Way" approach that keeps people social and feeling purposeful. The dining program serves chef-prepared meals that meet special dietary needs like for diabetes or food allergies, with all-day dining options for variety, and staff can help with feeding or making sure residents are hydrated and eating well, while outside healthcare providers-like doctors and podiatrists-visit as needed for extra medical support, and the location's close to the Florida Hosp Cancer Institute and Dr. Ailani Rajesh K, MD so emergency healthcare isn't far.
Housekeeping, linen service, and laundry are included, and residents can use beauty and barber services right there, so it's easier to look and feel good without leaving home. There are religious services, transportation to appointments or events, and recreational or resident-run activities, giving people ways to stay busy and connected, all while compassionate staff focus on individualized care, from memory care that helps reduce wandering and confusion, to day-to-day help with whatever someone might need. Sarah House is a Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity provider, with state license #12175, and its Seniorly community score is 7.3, so people can get a good idea of what to expect if they visit or tour, and in the end, it's a quiet senior living community that's just trying to help people live with dignity, comfort, and the kind of dependable support that keeps things steady in later years.
