    Peaceful compassionate care highly recommended

I placed my mother here and immediately felt peace of mind - the compassionate, attentive staff (Kimberly and the on-site chef included) handled medications, bathing and memory/hospice needs with dignity and kept us well informed. The rooms and grounds are spotless and homey, meals are excellent, and communication with the RN and administrator is easy. It's a caring, small community with a high staff-to-resident ratio that I highly recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression The Residence – VITAS Healthcare is described by many families as a small, residential-feeling community with high standards for cleanliness, attractive common areas, and well-maintained grounds. Reviewers frequently highlight spacious rooms and a calm, non‑institutional atmosphere that families found comforting for long‑term care and end‑of‑life stays. The facility’s physical presentation and hospitality are consistent strengths in the available feedback.

Care and staff Families commonly praise the caregiving team as compassionate, attentive, and well staffed; comments emphasize a high staff‑to‑resident ratio and staff who assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding) and medication administration. Memory‑care expertise and coordinated on‑site hospice services are noted as important elements of clinical programming, and many families said these services provided peace of mind during difficult transitions. Multiple reviews singled out nursing leadership and administrative staff for accessibility and responsiveness, and caregivers were described as prioritizing resident dignity.

Dining and activities Dining is a widely cited positive: the facility is said to offer chef‑prepared, high‑quality meals in an attractive dining room rather than standard institutional fare. Reviewers note three meals a day and a menu that felt unique and upscale. Activity programming and a proactive activity director were also mentioned positively; families observed residents as engaged and described the community as having a pleasant social environment.

Facilities and value The Residence is characterized as clean, cozy, and residential rather than clinical. Grounds upkeep, interior maintenance, and small‑community scale contribute to a perception of value and affordability among several families. On the whole, the physical plant and hospitality by staff are framed as distinguishing features compared with larger facilities.

Management and notable patterns of concern Most feedback is positive, but a small number of reviews raise serious concerns that contrast with the general praise. These concerns include alleged staff theft and documentation irregularities, and complaints about delayed or unresponsive management communication following incidents. Related themes are gaps in family communication, limited transparency around incident reporting, and potential inconsistencies in how clinical incidents are escalated and communicated to families. These comments suggest operational areas that prospective families should probe during a tour.

Practical recommendations for prospective families During a visit, ask about property‑safeguarding procedures and inventory controls for resident belongings; review the facility’s incident‑reporting and family‑notification policies; inquire about staff turnover and the steps taken to ensure consistent clinical oversight; and confirm how hospice coordination and medication administration are managed. Where possible, speak with current families about day‑to‑day communication and request written examples of the facility’s escalation and documentation practices. These steps can help validate the many positive aspects described while clarifying the facility’s approach to the operational concerns highlighted by some families.
