    Immaculate friendly active retirement community

I've lived here three years and love it. Fantastic amenities - multiple pools (indoor and heated outdoor), jacuzzis, an exceptional fitness center, tennis/pickleball/baseball courts, and championship golf courses - plus a beautiful clubhouse with theater, billiards, craft and computer rooms. The neighborhood and homes are immaculate, staff and neighbors are friendly and supportive, it's gated with uniformed security, and HOA fees are reasonable. Tons of clubs, activities and great dining; a well-managed, welcoming active-retirement community I happily call home.

    Summary of reviews

Del Webb Spruce Creek is presented across reviews as an active, resort-style retirement community with extensive recreational assets and an emphasis on social programming. Its physical plant and amenities are recurring strengths: multiple heated pools (including an indoor option), a substantial fitness center, an expansive clubhouse with dedicated rooms for theater, crafts, billiards and computer use, and robust golf facilities. Residents describe an engaged calendar of clubs and events — from golf and pickleball to cooking, veterans’ groups, gardening and car shows — which supports a socially active lifestyle.

Staff and security impressions are mixed. Many reviewers describe professional, fiscally responsible management and helpful staff who maintain the grounds and run programs effectively. The gated aspect with uniformed security is generally viewed as a community asset. At the same time, several reviewers describe inconsistent application of gate procedures, delays or brusque interactions at entry points, and variability in customer service at places such as the pro shop. These operational inconsistencies extend to logistics: there are accounts of early-morning delivery restrictions and verification processes that some find inefficient.

Social life and clubs are a clear strength but show uneven accessibility. The community supports a wide variety of organized groups and leader-driven opportunities; many residents find the social environment welcoming. Conversely, a recurring pattern is that certain activities — notably morning pickleball leagues and established foursomes — can be insular, making it harder for newer residents to join peak-time play. Prospective residents should expect active social networks and also be prepared to make an effort to integrate into established groups.

Maintenance and presentation are frequently praised. Homes, lawns and golf courses are commonly described as well cared-for and pristine. Occasional cleanliness issues are noted in a few common areas (examples cited include windows or a bar area), which appear isolated rather than systemic. Overall, the community’s upkeep and amenity investment contribute to a resort-like ambiance that residents value.

Management and governance show both positives and areas for improvement. Several reviewers applaud sensible fiscal management and relatively low HOA fees. At the same time, there are concerns about accessibility to the Board of Directors and responsiveness from administrative staff when issues arise. Of particular note are serious, specific claims concerning theft and financial misconduct by named staff members; these are described as allegations and represent a high-severity concern that prospective residents or family members should investigate further through formal channels and documentation.

In summary, Del Webb Spruce Creek offers a comprehensive set of amenities, active programming, and well-maintained grounds that suit residents seeking a socially engaged, recreation-forward retirement setting. The principal operational caveats in the reviews involve inconsistent gate and customer-service practices, occasional cleanliness lapses, social clique dynamics around popular activities, and notable allegations regarding staff conduct that merit follow-up. Visitors and prospective buyers would benefit from on-site visits during peak activity times, direct conversations with management about security and incident-handling policies, and clarification of HOA and governance responsiveness before deciding.

About Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf & Country Club

Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf & Country Club sits in Summerfield, Florida, and it's a gated 55+ community spread over 1,604 acres with small-town charm mixed with modern features. This community has 3,250 homes and four unique 9-hole golf courses across 271 acres of green space, plenty for those who like to play or walk outdoors. Residents find many things to do, from swimming and tennis to pickleball on 12 outdoor concrete courts, shuffleboard, billiards, and clubs for almost any interest-there's over 70 clubs and always something going on. A full-time activities director helps keep the calendar full, and places like the Horizon Center, with a library, ballroom, kitchen, game rooms, outdoor pool, bocce, and shuffleboard courts, give everyone a place to gather or relax. The Lake Vista Recreation Area has an indoor pool, fitness equipment, horseshoe pits, and a softball diamond, and you can find outdoor fun at Peninsula Park, too.

This community supports active adults and makes daily life easier with features like on-site dining at Liberty Grille, which offers bar and snack service when the main restaurant closes. Those interested in horseshoes can join the Del Webb Horseshoe Club, which maintains 12 clay courts and organizes leagues and tournaments from December to April; the club is open every day from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and offers court reservations. Pickleball also draws a crowd, with dedicated courts and lights for night games along with restrooms nearby, though you'll need to be a member to play on these or join most clubs.

Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf & Country Club is self-governed, and the community expects residents to keep up lawn care, use approved containers for trash, follow parking rules-like not leaving large vehicles or RVs in front of homes for too long-and make sure pets are contained and leashed, with no pets allowed in recreation or golf areas. An Architectural Review Committee checks that home improvements or changes all match the standards, and storage for RVs and other vehicles is available for rent. At least one resident per home must be 55 or older, and the rules and regulations aim to keep things pleasant, safe, and quiet. If you want to see more, tours can be arranged so you can meet the staff and other residents, and look at all the different facilities.

The community offers different levels of care, including assisted living, independent living, memory care, continuing care, nursing homes, home care, and respite care, with guidance for families and insurance support. People can enjoy being close to cities like Jacksonville, Tampa, Daytona Beach, and Orlando, while still having peace and comfort right at home. Del Webb Spruce Creek fits those looking for an active adult lifestyle, plenty of activities, golf, and social opportunities-not to mention peaceful streets and good neighbors.
