    Pleased; dad settling in well

I'm quite pleased with this facility - my dad is settling in, enjoys the food and the three-times-a-week day program, the home is kept clean, staff and director are excellent, communication is good and it's affordable; I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

A and R Personal Care Home presents a mixed profile: families commonly note a clean, home-like facility with staff and a director who are engaged and communicate well with families. The home offers a regular day program several times per week and organizes monthly outings, which supports social engagement. Many comments about monthly cost indicate it is around $2,500 and is viewed as reasonable by some families.

Care quality appears generally acceptable to good for many residents. Multiple families praised staff attentiveness and the director’s personal engagement, and at least one resident adjusted well to the placement and enjoys the meals. At the same time, there are indications of inconsistent staff conduct and occasional lapses in trust-building; while some families describe excellent interactions, others expressed concerns about responsiveness and warmth. Room assignments affect perceived quality of care for some families — semi-private arrangements and limited private-room availability were recurring frustrations.

Dining and activities show variability. Several families reported that residents enjoy the food and that meals meet preferences for some, while other comments point to inconsistent food quality and a reliance on processed items for some menu components. The facility does provide structured activities (day program multiple times weekly and monthly outings), but medical-appointment coordination appears limited and is often handled by family members rather than the facility.

Management and administrative practices are a notable area of concern. There are recurring questions about deposit, contract, and documentation practices — including an allegation that a deposit was withheld without completed paperwork — and a broader sense that deposit/refund policies are insufficiently transparent. Families also raised issues with higher pharmacy and ancillary costs. Prospective families should request written clarification on contract terms, deposit/refund procedures, room availability and assignment policies, dining menus, pharmacy arrangements, and how medical appointments are coordinated before making a placement decision.

Overall, A and R offers strengths in facility upkeep, engaged leadership, and activity programming, but prospective residents and their families should carefully evaluate private-room availability, contract and deposit terms, dining preferences, and expected out-of-pocket pharmacy expenses to ensure the setting matches their needs and expectations.

About A and R Personal Care Home

A & R Personal Care Home sits in a quiet neighborhood in Snellville, Georgia, and offers 6 licensed assisted living units for seniors who want supportive care in a smaller, home-like setting, and the place handles long-term needs, memory care, and respite stays, usually for folks who don't need full-time nursing but want help with daily life such as bathing, dressing, and getting around, and the caregivers help with things like medication management, feeding by spoon if needed, and special diets, including pureed meals or snacks between meals, and they have an on-site nurse available for emergencies, plus monthly physician check-ups and visiting dental and podiatry care, so health needs are covered pretty well without needing to leave the home very often. The rooms include studio and one-bedroom options plus semi-private apartments and shared units, each with ADA-compliant bathrooms, emergency pull-cords, washers and dryers, and kitchenettes, and some units have large balconies or patios for getting fresh air.

The home welcomes pets like dogs and cats, and there's a no-smoking policy indoors, which keeps things healthy for everyone, and they have an on-site security system and emergency buttons in each apartment, so safety's a big part of daily life, and the staff looks after basic needs like laundry, linens, housekeeping, and even home upkeep, and all utilities come included, so residents don't need to worry about bills. Residents eat together in a communal dining area where staff prepare nutritious meals daily, with special menus for birthdays and holidays, and family can join for scheduled picnics or off-site trips. Daily entertainment is simple and includes games, a movie room, and creative arts and crafts projects, and there's an exercise area and daily fitness activities, plus walking spaces outside. For folks who like technology, there's a computer center and a small library for reading, and for social needs, residents take part in regular activities on- and off-site, family support meetings, and gatherings where everyone can meet, talk, and feel part of a group.

A & R Personal Care Home allows both male and female residents, offers shared and private transportation, handles moving assistance if needed, and develops individualized care plans for each senior so their wants and needs get some personal attention, and the place's 2.5-star rating reflects that it does what's needed but may not offer extras you'd find in larger, fancier facilities. There is a minimum age required for living here, and pets always have a place, and the staff spend their time trying to make sure everyone's got care and comfort, keeping things clean, and doing their best to provide a peaceful spot for seniors and their families in Gwinnett County.
