    Kind staff great food pet-friendly

I stayed at Lakeside and loved my time there. The staff are kind, honest, and truly go out of their way to make residents feel important - my health and spirits improved after joining. The food is wonderful, people are warm and welcoming to guests, and it's pet-friendly (I brought a small dog). I'm very pleased with my experience and would recommend Lakeside.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Lakeside Assisted Living present a mixed picture. Positive accounts emphasize caring interactions, good meals, and a welcoming community atmosphere; negative accounts raise operational concerns about facility upkeep, consistency of clinical oversight, and management transparency. Prospective residents and families will find examples of strong, individualized attention alongside indications of systemic issues that merit direct inquiry.

Care and staff: Several reviewers praised staff as compassionate and attentive, and multiple families described observable improvements in residents' mood and general wellbeing after admission. Staff are frequently characterized as welcoming to visitors and supportive of family involvement. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent professionalism and responsiveness; some reviewers noted behaviors and clinical practices that suggest gaps in supervision or training. Concerns about medication management and clinical oversight appear in multiple critiques and should be a focus of any follow-up questions during a tour.

Dining and activities: Comments about dining are largely positive, with phrases such as "great food" and "wonderful meals" appearing in favorable accounts. Reviewers also described a warm social atmosphere and memorable stays for some residents, and the facility's pet-friendly policy is appreciated by family members who bring small animals. Conversely, activity and engagement levels appear to vary; a subset of accounts indicates that not all residents are consistently engaged in programming, which could be related to staffing patterns or clinical practices.

Facilities and cleanliness: Several reviews raise sanitation and odor concerns in shared spaces and describe aspects of the environment as aged, dimly lit, or in need of repair. These comments point to maintenance and cleanliness issues that would affect daily comfort and safety. Prospective visitors should inspect common areas, resident rooms, lighting, and housekeeping routines when evaluating the facility.

Management and notable patterns: A repeated theme is frequent name changes and rebranding, which has contributed to confusion among families and, for some, diminished trust. This pattern, coupled with the mixed accounts of care consistency, generates broader reputation and transparency concerns. Asking for documentation about ownership, recent citations or inspections, staff turnover rates, and quality-improvement initiatives can help clarify these issues.

Recommendation: The reviews indicate that Lakeside has important strengths—particularly in staff compassion and dining—but also material operational weaknesses that merit investigation. Families considering the facility should conduct an in-person visit, observe staff–resident interactions, review medication-management and staffing policies, inspect cleanliness and maintenance of common areas, and request references from current resident families. These steps will provide a clearer sense of whether Lakeside's positives reliably match the needs of a particular resident.

    About Lakeside Assisted Living

Lakeside Assisted Living sits near the Pend Oreille River in Sandpoint, ID, and has been called Lakeview Assisted Living and Sandpoint Assisted Living in the past, so over the years it's changed names, but the focus on care has stayed the same, and now it serves as part of the long-term care system, with oversight from groups like the Department of Aging or Veteran's Services, and carries a state license for operation, holding 60 licensed beds in the building. Families often find some peace of mind with Lakeside since the staff are known for treating everyone with kindness, a sense of purpose, and they always strive to make residents feel valued, which seems to make a difference, especially for folks coming from places where they didn't get enough care or maybe were given too much medication. The place provides assisted living, memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia, mental health care, non-ambulatory care for those who need mobility help, companion care, and nursing home services, and what's nice is that individualized care plans look after each person's unique needs while making sure there's constant health monitoring through nursing staff on site day and night, every day of the week, including Sundays. They accommodate both private and semi-private rooms, all with either full or half baths, and offer single and double occupancy, which helps people find a living arrangement that suits them best, and folks can even bring their cats and dogs, so there's a pet-friendly policy that's comforting for animal lovers. The community has a secure memory unit in a small environment for those in later stages of dementia and Alzheimer's, as well as residential care aimed at all ages, which isn't always the case in assisted living homes.

Amenities help make daily life more manageable, including nutritious meals and snacks, diabetic and incontinence care, medication management, and personal care with bathing, dressing, and grooming, and residents have access to technology like senior cell phones, hearing aids, and internet plans made for older adults. There are safety features in place too, like home security, medication dispensers, walk-in tubs to prevent falls, ADT Medical Alert, Medical Guardian, Bay Alarm Medical, and ID theft protection, along with emergency call systems and staff always available around the clock. Social options range from fitness programs and indoor common areas to a much-loved yearly resident garden, plus planned events such as barbecue parties, pool tournaments, karaoke, devotional activities, and seasonal outings to local parks, shopping, and movie theaters. Seniors have a choice of independent living, apartments, condos, or townhomes within the senior housing options. Regular housekeeping, laundry, and transportation services to medical appointments or social events help residents stay comfortable and active in the community. Memory care services are customized, with quiet rooms and secured spaces so those with cognitive disabilities can feel safe, and staff take a gentle approach, focusing on each person's health and happiness. Lakeside Assisted Living partners with A Place For Mom for families seeking free advice and has earned awards for their level of care and commitment to their motto, "The Care You Need, The Compassion You Deserve." The community accepts Medicaid at several locations though Medicare is accepted only if CMS certified. Lakeside Assisted Living aims to provide a steady environment where residents' health and spirits can improve over time, and staff members go out of their way to make sure each person gets the attention and respect they deserve.
