    Spotless friendly community with activities

I moved my mother into this small, spotless community and overall we've had a very positive experience. The staff are friendly, professional and attentive-always accommodating and quick to answer questions. Apartments and the building stay immaculate, meals are tasty, and there are engaging activities like bingo and workout classes; I would recommend it for independent living.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Brookstone Suites of Effingham are overwhelmingly positive, with multiple reviewers praising staff, cleanliness, dining, and activities. Several comments use words like “great,” “wonderful,” “highly recommend,” and note that family members (for example, a reviewer’s mother) are doing well there. The dominant impression across the summaries is of a small, well-maintained community with attentive, professional staff and a range of resident activities.

Care quality and staff: Care quality is consistently described as attentive and helpful. Reviewers emphasize that staff are kind, pleasant, informative, and willing to accommodate residents’ needs. There are specific notes that staff answer questions, assist residents in participating in activities, and that management or staff have arranged extra help when needed to ensure care — indicating responsiveness and flexibility in meeting individual needs. The frequency of comments about staff professionalism and helpfulness suggests staff interactions are a major strength of the community.

Facilities and maintenance: Multiple summaries highlight cleanliness and good upkeep: the building is described as “well kept,” “spotless,” and “looks amazing.” Apartments are characterized as clean and comfortable, and reviewers repeatedly mention a tidy, well-maintained environment. The community is also portrayed as relatively small and pleasant, which appears to contribute to a feeling of comfort and personal attention.

Dining and activities: Dining is another repeated positive theme — reviewers say residents are “enjoying dining,” and describe meals as tasty. Activities receive specific mentions (bingo, workout classes) and reviewers note staff help residents engage with those activities. The combination of appealing meals and organized social/fitness programming supports both social engagement and quality of life for residents, particularly those in independent living.

Management and responsiveness: Several summaries point to accommodating and responsive management or staff who provide extra help when necessary and answer questions promptly. This pattern reinforces the perception of a community that adapts to resident needs rather than adhering to a rigid approach.

Notable patterns and concerns: The overwhelmingly positive pattern is moderated by a single explicit negative point: one reviewer labeled the place “terrible” and noted it is pet-unfriendly. That negative comment is isolated among many favorable summaries, so it stands out as an outlier. The only concrete operational concern cited across the reviews is the pet policy; no other consistent complaints about cleanliness, staff, food, or activities appear. Prospective residents who have pets should verify the facility’s pet policy directly and, if important, ask management for details. It may also be prudent for consumers to ask about the context of any strongly negative review to understand whether it reflects a specific incident or more systemic issue.

Conclusion: In sum, Brookstone Suites of Effingham is portrayed by reviewers as a clean, comfortable, and well-run small community with friendly, attentive staff, good food, and active programming — particularly well suited to independent living. The dominant themes are professionalism, responsiveness, and strong maintenance standards. The primary caution from the reviews is a pet-unfriendly stance and one isolated strongly negative review; neither of these appears to undermine the consistent, positive reports from most reviewers but should be confirmed by prospective residents during a visit or discussion with management.

    About Brookstone Suites of Effingham

Brookstone Suites of Effingham used to offer senior living in Effingham, Illinois, with both independent and assisted living options, and you could pick either a studio or one-bedroom apartment, many of which were newly remodeled back in 2014, so they looked fresh and bright, with modern touches and plenty of space for a person's own furniture and mementos, which really helped a person feel at home. Residents had their own privacy and security just by closing their doors, and everyone was free to bring pets along, which made the place feel pretty lively at times, and seniors could always count on staff being around 24 hours a day for help, whether it was something small like changing a lightbulb or something serious like responding to a personal alert.

The building had smoke detectors and sprinklers and kept everything well maintained, so most folks didn't worry much about safety, and there were indoor and outdoor common areas where it was easy to join friends for cards, movies, or arts and crafts. Every apartment had central air and heat that could be controlled by the resident, along with a walk-in shower and a kitchenette for those who liked to fix a bite to eat, but meals were also provided three times a day and often got good reviews for being fresh, seasonal, and prepared by a friendly dining staff who understood seniors' different diets. Housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance were included in one all-inclusive, affordable price, making it less of a hassle to keep track of bills or chores.

For residents who needed help, there was assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, medication management, and even diabetes or injectable medicine help, all backed by nurses and aides who were described as compassionate and caring, with special skills in supporting folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, including a secured wing for those who could wander off. The place also had an integrated rehabilitation center, regular visits from dentists and podiatrists, physical, occupational, and speech therapy visits, and programs like Brain Health University and Dining for Wellness that tried to keep everyone sharp and healthy. Memory care, respite, and even hospice care were available, and the no-smoking policy kept the air clean everywhere indoors.

Residents could bring pets, invite guests to stay in visitor suites, and join outings or use scheduled transportation for shopping or appointments. The community held lots of social events, group fitness, devotional services, and Wellness Everyday programs, always with an emphasis on keeping active and engaged. Resident parking was available for folks who could still drive. The building itself was modern and attractive, described as bright and friendly, with a close-knit feel that new folks noticed straight away.

Sadly, Brookstone Suites of Effingham is now permanently closed, so all these offerings and services aren't available anymore.
