    Feels like home, exceeded expectations

I moved to Parkview and am very pleased. The staff are professional, caring and friendly - nursing, therapy and housekeeping are excellent - and the health services and attached skilled nursing give me peace of mind. Meals are delicious and accommodated, the grounds and buildings are clean and well maintained, and there's a lively calendar with trips, bus service and plenty of activities. It really feels like home and exceeded my expectations.

    Summary of reviews

Parkview Home of Freeport is consistently described as a well-run, community-oriented senior living option with a strong emphasis on person-centered care and social engagement. Reviewers highlight the quality and responsiveness of staff at all levels — nursing, therapy, dining, and housekeeping — noting flexibility, friendliness, and proactive wellness checks. The facility’s clinical capabilities are a recurring strength: on-site nursing visits, therapy services, and an attached skilled nursing component create a clear continuum of care for residents who may need increasing support.

Dining and activities are both emphasized as positives. The dining program is characterized as nutritious and accommodating, with the ability to honor special requests and deliver varied menus. Activity programming is broad and active, including on-site events, card games, theater trips, and regular bus outings that support resident engagement and social connection. Many reviewers described an atmosphere of increased activity and improved mood after moving in.

Facilities and location receive favorable remarks for being well-built and well-maintained, with attractive grounds, patios and garden space on a quiet, tree-lined street. Accommodation options include one- and two-bedroom apartments, duplexes, and basement storage; however, there is variation in unit size and finish. Several notes point to older sections with smaller rooms, dated furnishings, and darker lighting compared with newer or renovated areas. The campus layout — shaped by incremental additions — can be confusing to navigate for visitors and residents.

Management and financial stewardship also appear to be strengths: the non-profit ownership and referenced solid balance sheet suggest organizational stability. At the same time, potential residents should be aware of a few recurring operational caveats. Unit condition and cleanliness can be inconsistent between buildings, and some accommodations are compact or may allow roommate configurations, which affects privacy and space. Pricing is described as a premium by some, so prospective residents should compare costs and unit types. Finally, the community’s active, social culture is a clear benefit for many, but may be less well suited to individuals who prefer a quieter, more private lifestyle. Overall, Parkview presents as a compassionate, activity-rich community with robust clinical support and some variability in physical accommodations that warrants an in-person tour and unit-specific inspection.

    About Parkview Home of Freeport

Parkview Home of Freeport sits across from Krape Park in a quiet neighborhood with well-kept gardens, tree-lined sidewalks, and neat lawns, and the buildings have both apartments and condos that feel like homes instead of institutional rooms, because some can be as large as 1600 square feet with full basements, while the enhanced independent Church Park apartments offer studios and one-bedroom units with services like daily meals and visiting nurses. Parkview serves seniors who need a little help with daily tasks, folks who want to live on their own but enjoy peace of mind, and those needing memory care or skilled nursing, so the community covers independent living, enhanced independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled care all on the same campus, and they've got flexible lifetime care contracts if someone's funds run out, so people don't have to worry about leaving if their money's gone.

The staff includes licensed nurses, certified helpers, and therapists-people are on-site 24 hours, and someone can ring for help any time, plus doctors are on call, and they partner with Genesis Rehab Services for physical, occupational, and speech therapy right at Parkview. They help residents dress, bathe, and take medicine, so folks who need a hand with daily activities get the support they need, and residents with Alzheimer's or dementia have their own secure areas, special apartments, and trained care teams. The main building and the Parkview West expansion both have lots of common rooms and gathering spaces like fireside lounges, country kitchens, and activity areas with scenic views, and the outdoor terraces, sun porches, and wander gardens mean there's plenty of places to get fresh air or just enjoy watching the birds for a bit.

There's a lot to do, so every month's packed with things like bingo, crafts, shopping trips, scenic drives, and Bible study, alongside themed activities for women, men, and couples, and the big stuff stands out, like summer picnics, fall ice cream socials, dinners out, and even banquet-style holiday parties, plus regular outings for shopping and entertainment, and a 15-passenger bus and a lift-van make it easier to get around town. Most meals are served in a cozy dining room or restaurant-style setting, and folks get one or two good meals a day included-with healthy food and options for special diets, so there's no need to wait in a cafeteria line. Housekeeping and laundry happen on a set schedule, so rooms stay tidy and clothes get cleaned, while the maintenance crew knows residents by name and tends to problems fast, whether it's a lightbulb or something bigger.

There's a computer center, exercise room, barbershop and beauty salon, plus several libraries and comfortable lounges for relaxing or meeting neighbors, and every month brings new programs, social hours, movies, church services, pet visits, and council meetings where residents can share their thoughts. Both private and semi-private rooms are available in the skilled care area, and memory care studios have their own bathrooms and special features to keep residents safe and comfortable. Parkview Home of Freeport's been a non-profit, locally managed place since 1914, and many say the carefully nurtured services and honest staff make it feel both dependable and friendly, so it's a fairly practical choice for people in Freeport who want safety, activities, and help as their needs change.
